FSU, Clemson, OK State, K-State, and Texas Tech may join SEC, with KU, Notre Dame, UNC, and UVA joining Big Ten

By Andrew Hughes | Mar 12, 2024, 11:05 AM EDT

Radio host Greg Swaim, who correctly called Washington and Oregon joining the Big Ten, has a new prediction: FSU, Clemson, OK State, K-State, and Texas Tech joining the SEC, and Kansas, Notre Dame, UNC, and Virginia joining the B1G.

"If the so-called 'Super Conferences' begin poaching the Big12 and ACC, it's (Kansas football) to the B1G along with Notre Dame, UNC, and UVA, while FSU, Clemson, OK State, K-State, and Texas Tech to the SEC," Swaim wrote. "There will be other B12 and ACC school poaches as well, but at this time please, no wagering!"

The SEC would have an uneven number of teams in this scenario, but the idea of Vanderbilt football becoming an independent -- with the "It Just Means More" conference paying the Commodores to do so -- is on the table, per Swaim. Another possibility raised was Texas A&M leaving the SEC and joining the Big Ten since Texas is now the Lone Star State's marquee brand in the conference.

If SEC and Big Ten poach schools from ACC, Memphis, Tulane, Wazzu, Oregon State, UConn, and USF can replace them
Per PressBox DC's Jim Williams, Memphis, Tulane, Wazzu, Oregon State, UConn, and USF can all join the ACC if FSU, Clemson, UNC, and Louisville leave it. Florida State is battling the ACC in court to break free, and if the Seminoles' side of the case wins, it's a certainty the three other championship-winning brands will follow.

ACC losing those brands would make them a clear "other two" conference in an ever-changing college football landscape that may imminently see a "Power Two" setup that prioritizes its two cash-cows, the SEC and Big Ten.

Many are expecting the "Power Two" to form their own College Football Playoff, leaving the NCAA behind altogether.
By 2026? That could be a distinct possibility.

Our Big Ten conference now has 14 football teams and this year will add four more teams. Teams travelling now will have to go coast to coast to play teams in their own conference. Guess it's all about the money.

Maybe they just need to start paying the college players (above the table). Make it like a farm system as baseball uses. :D

It is all about the money as Rick said. I don't understand how a school that's supposed to be about education can pay their coaches millions of dollars. How many professors get contacts worth millions?

Another world problem I'm unable to solve. :emot_laughing:

I'm not happy at all about the SEC expanding again so soon. The conference is big enough with Oklahoma and Texas joining. And with the way FSU acted after being left out of the playoffs, pardon my language (not really), they can up and fuck off. I'd rather have Virginia join the SEC and FSU join the B1G.

I'm also laughing because plenty of Oklahoma fans think the Sooners are going to run roughshod over the SEC. I'm guessing those fans are either delusional or haven't watched a lot of SEC games. The SEC is a whole other animal than the Big 12, and looking at their 2024 schedule, they have a weak nonconference schedule, as most teams do, but a very slim chance at making the conference championshp. (The SEC opponents are Tennessee,  Auburn, Texas, South Carolina, Ole Miss, Missouri, Alabama, and LSU. They won't beat ALL of those teams.)  Texas will be a threat, though, and I'm glad the Vols do not have to play them.

It’s going to be a real eye opener. I think the days of undefeated national championships are over.

Texas goes to Ann Arbor in Week 2.  First time ever. It will be an interesting season.

You might be right about that.

I want Oklahoma to face Georgia in 2025, though.

No Nebraska football players were selected in NFL Draft for second time in 5 years.

Hard to believe this is possible. Is Nebraska doomed? This will really hurt their recruiting, as all the top talent is looking for a ticket to the pros.

Texas is going to be, for a while, a medium large fish in with some bigger fish.

But the Texas coaches know very well what they're headed in for.  Should be  some damned good football played along the way.

Texas looks pretty good. I think we will likely lose to Georgia in Austin, and possibly Oklahoma in Dallas. But we’re definitely going to make the playoffs.

Out of all sports, college football, by far, is my favorite. With that said, I do not live or die on the sport. I don't get worked up or depressed if my favorite team (USC) loses. I appreciate the innovation of the sport, and I love when those moments happen when a well laid plan just falls to shit in a broken play. It actually reminds me of the NFL of the 1970's, before 3rd, 4th and 5th generation monsters (and gambling/rigging) ruined the NFL.

When I was diagnosed with epilepsy and early onset Alzheimer’s earlier this year, I became *extremely* depressed. I began to plot my own suicide, how I would do it, what I would need to get in place to have it be not so “burdensome” on friends and family, etc. And then all the preseason polls came out. And the Texas Longhorns are in the top five nationally in all of them. And I began to think “what a stupid time to commit suicide. With my luck, I would off myself before the best season in history and a return to the national championship.“ I can’t say that dissuaded me, but it’s amazing the things you will think about relative to death. I definitely want to live to see this season. And I definitely want to live to cast of vote against Donald Trump. Sorry dude.

I doubt you stayed up for it Bob, but what a heartbreaking loss for Minnesota tonight. Missed field goal with 00:00:04 on the clock. Mack Brown’s Tar Heels win, 19-17.

Seems so Minnesota. All our teams seem to choke up when it counts. Blowing play off games overtimes, extra innings, erc.

Maybe there's some kind of curse on our State.

Oklahoma beat Temple 50–3. Ordinarily I hate anything about Oklahoma. But I have a friend in Vegas, who made a substantial bet on a 42.5 points spread. So he won that. I hope he gets a lot of money.

Longhorns smoked Colorado State in a fabulous season opener at DKR Memorial stadium, 52-0.

Horns started out a little slow, but adjustments were made. The biggest perhaps was putting in Arch Manning in relief of star quarterback Quinn Ewers during the third quarter, with the outcome well in hand, 38-0 in favor of the Longhorns.

Immediately, Manning showed off his arm talent with a 40-yard pass to Johntay Cook, followed by a nifty 5-yard touchdown pass on third-and-goal -- his first in college -- to put the Longhorns up 44-0 on the Rams. Manning added a one-yard sneak for a touchdown on fourth down. Manning finished 5-for-6 for 95 yards.

Ewers, for his part, went 20-for-27 for 260 yards, three touchdowns and an interceptions on a tipped ball.

Next week, the Horns take it to Ann Arbor for only their second game in history against Michigan. Should be an epic matchup.

The Longhorn defense looks surprisingly good for the first game.  They'll need all of that when they go to Ann Arbor.

For me, the icing on my birthday cake was Notre Dame beating Texas A&M 23-13 at Kyle Field.

The Aggies spent $80 million to get rid of head coach Jimbo Fisher and replace him with Duke’s Mike Elko. They’ve been trash talking about winning the SEC and making a run on a Natty all year. Well, Elko looked like a deer in the headlights last night.

Probably one of the most exciting Week Ones in history. The LSU vs. USC game, played on Sunday night in Las Vegas, was incredibly close, and so much bad blood on both sides. Two coaches that a lot of people love to hate also.

USC punched in a touchdown with only eight seconds left (thanks to a targeting call against LSU). LSU got the ball back on the kickoff, and then threw a touchdown interception on their first play.  Final score: USC 27 - LSU 20. They will be talking about that one for a long time.

Just to clarify for those who didn't see the game, I think you meant to type interception instead of touchdown after LSU took the last kickoff. It was LSU's last offensive play of the game. USC took a knee to run out the last 3 seconds of the game.

I disagree about how exciting Week One was this year. ESPN reported that there had never been as many 50+point blowouts as we saw this weekend. I was rather bored by most of the games. It was nice to see a game that was competitive, even though I don't really care about either USC or LSU.
