What could possibly go wrong???

Instead of dropping games to unranked TCU, we’ll be dropping games to unranked Arkansas, and getting the shit kicked out of us by LSU.

Word is, the SEC is going to help them pay off the early buyout, to join the league next year. Which is amazing. There’s a lot of money to be made. And let’s face it, SEC is the king of the Power 5.  This makes them even more formidable.

Michigan State looked like Texas today. So sorry.

Texas loses again. Guaranteed a losing season. No bowl game.

They’re doing it to me again. They always do it to me. I get excited, I buy into it, and then I get my hopes dashed into 1 million pieces. But holy shit Arch Manning is absolutely single-handedly guaranteeing a huge improvement on talent.

As an USC alumnus, I cannot believe both USC and UCLA will be in the Big 10 come 2024. Unthinkable but a great business decision for both schools, plus the Big 10 gets access to the L.A. media market. Looks like USC is on the rebound again and that conference will be an apex predator.Hope Notre Dame eventually joins too.

Big business 101 — Appease the Rainmaker, screw everyone else.

Wait... this isn't big business. We're talking about amateur athletic programs, right?

Yeah, right.

So Lincoln Riley leaves Oklahoma for USC because Oklahoma is getting ready to move to the SEC and he doesn't want to be Saban's bitch for next 5 or 10 or 20 years.  So he goes to USC where he can be the big dog in the conference.  Now, USC and UCLA are moving to the Big Ten, where he gets to deal with OSU, PSU, Michigan, even MSU, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.  Nebraska used to be the top dog of the Big 8/Big 12.  Now...when was the last time the Cornhuskers were ranked in the top 10 to end the season?  Hell, when were they last ranked?

Though, there's a perverse part of me looking forward to the eventual White Out in the Coliseum when Penn State comes to visit.

Nebraska hasn’t won a National Title since 1997, Tom Osbourne’s last year.  Under Scott Frost for four seasons, they are 15–29 (.341). I always say be careful what you wish for. I think Texas and Oklahoma are going to find the SEC to be a lot less forgiving than the Big 12.

That delightful moment in time, when Texas is still undefeated.  LOL.  Alabama at home on Saturday, September 10, 2022.

What made my day was finding the Longhorn Network is available on the SlingTV streaming app.  Which my Firestick also has. So for $28, I have the game tonight.   Kickoff at 19:00 CDT.

They are smoking crack over at ESPN again.

ESPN’s Football Power Index (FPI):

7. TEXAS LONGHORNS (1-0)

ESPN's FPI gives Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns a 32.6% chance to win the Big 12 this season and a 11.3% chance to reach the College Football Playoff after Saturday night's 52-10 victory. Those numbers have been a trimmed a bit since spring and come after a five-win season in 2021. Think the addition of Quinn Ewers matters?

Outside of its Week 2-clash against Alabama, Texas will be favored or a narrow underdog in every contest this season per the updated numbers. With Bijan Robinson and Xavier Worthy representing two of college football's best players at their respective positions, it'll be up to Sarkisian to get that playmaking pair the football.

What do you think about Texas joining the SEC in 2025?

I'd love to propose two new rules:

1. (The Alabama Rule) - If you don't win your Conference Championship game, you're out of the playoffs. How can you be the top team when you can't even win your own conference?

2. (The Ohio State Rule) - If you choose not to play during a season when something's going on, your rankings from the previous season do not freeze; you drop each week, and can't make the top 25 unless you play at least 8 games. (Exception: A tragedy like what happened to Marshal.) I absolutely hate Alabama, but found myself pulling for them because the Buckeyes should not have even been in the playoffs.

I'm a Tennessee Vols fan, but with realistic expectations. There's about 5 games on the schedule I think they'll definitely lose, and a couple of others that are maybes.

I think Texas will get blown out by Alabama. The rest of their matchups look promising. I could see them having a 10–3 season.

As for the SEC, you really need to be careful what you ask for. The proposed east and west divisions still has Texas playing a lot of nationally ranked schools on a regular basis. We are going to need Arch Manning to win a Heisman Trophy.
