Ok, I don't hate it, but seriously, I have to keep a sweater at work in July and August so I don't freeze at my desk?

It's warm enough outside that I can wear sandals, shorts and t-shirt at night yet if I want to go to a bar even during the day I need jeans and a long sleeve so I don't freeze?

Wasn't air conditioning supposed to make people comfortable?

Am I the only one that finds working or drinking in a refrigeration unit uncomfortable?

It's Canada...we have nine months of the year to be cold...why not enjoy warm weather for those rare few months that we have it.

While you're waiting in vain for that apology, why don't you make yourself useful by getting on your knees and opening your mouth

Air conditioning is a life saver here in summer.  40+ degrees celsius is no joke.

Stop carrying a sweater and start carrying a small plugin space heater. Someone relevant will eventually come speak to you and then your explanation will result in one of two things. One, they adjust the thermostat. Or two, you'll find a bar that doesn't suck at customer consideration.  :emot_laughing:

Sorry I'm no help.  :'(

I have the reverse problem often.  People are cold and I am hot and saying turn the temp down more.  At least you can put a sweater on.  I cannot take clothes off without breaking dress codes.

I have found though that many are sitting in the draft of a vent.  Not much you can do about it in many public places where you cannot redirect the vent or sit somewhere else because the vents are everywhere. So I feel for you.  It is not fun to be uncomfortable at work.

I also long ago had the fun of having to wear a wool 'Blues' US Navy uniform in an office that has the temperature set for those in less heavy clothes.  Hot and sweaty plus the itch of the damp wool.

A comfortable temperature is one of those pleasures you're usually aware of only when it's missing. I live in a condo with central air conditioning, which I used to turn on in June and leave on until September. I loved the nice seventy degree temperature for a few years until I noticed my electric bills during the summer months were about $300 higher than the rest of the year.

Having been impressed in my youth with my grandparents' frugality, I now turn off my central heating sometime in May and depend on a fan to keep me cool during the day, and throw open all the windows overnight. I have no special  plans for the thousand dollars I save every summer, other than letting it sit in my bank account until I depart these shores and the account goes to my son and his girls.

Fans in the barns for the horses. Not only does it cool them off (somewhat) but the air movement keeps flies away from them. As for the house, fans both ceiling and window work just fine, "however" the bedrooms all have window A/C's. The reason for that is at night I like a very cold bedroom so that I can snuggle down in bed. In the winter I leave my bedroom window open just a couple of inches for fresh air.

Love,
Liz

Phtlc, it's not the AC, sounds like you're thin-blooded. People who have thin blood are always cold.
I have never been in a business establishment that was so cold I needed a jacket. What always happens is it feels very good the moment I walk in, but after that...ehhh.

I have a fan running on my desk at all times (we have ac at work). Both during summer and winter. I also sleep with a ceiling fan and floor fan running in the summer with the ac on, as well as during the winter.

I love using a fan to pull the AC air right to me.

I'm from Phoenix... I can deal with indoor temps about 5F hotter than most folks from elsewhere.  Being skinny helps.  HOWEVER, before they moved my cube to another section of the building, I had to wear a jacket and a wool cap in the summer 'cos I was right under a vent.

We had an auditor in this week in a full suit: undershirt, dress shirt and suit coat... in DALLAS... in the SUMMER.  Yep, we had to drop the AC in the room he was in to around 70F so he wasn't sweating.  I had to wear long-sleeve shirts 'cos I was stuck with him for three days.  Stupidly, HE'S FROM HERE: he lives up just south of the Red River.  He KNOWS that it's too effing hot for a suit in the summer, and nobody in this town requires them, normally.  This isn't the East Coast where suits are common.

I don't even own a suit; the next time I'll need one is at my own funeral, and I'd rather be buried or burned in shorts, sandals and a Hawaiian shirt.  I might as well go in comfort!

Toe & Gemini,

You guys nailed it. The breeze is nice, but something about the noise of the fan. I'm guessing it has a sort of white noise effect. Sorta like those sound generating machines specifically for sleeping. When I have to travel and stay at a hotel I miss my fan immensely. I typically turn the ac unit down so that it runs almost continuously. I've contemplated going down to the front desk to ask if they have a fan that I can borrow.

Early last Fall my cousin had to stay at a motel for a few days. It was still pretty hot and I turned on the AC. It was this long unit that ran along the wall that was next to the door outside. Kind of reminded me of the old style heaters the house we lived in as kids but more "modern".
Man, that cold air felt GREAT. There was a chair right next to the AC unit and I was sitting there and loving it!

I'm from South Dakota where it's always super cold and I would welcome the heat you have. However, I even know you shouldn't wear a suit in Dallas in Summer. I bet you were happy for him to leave.
