Personally, I thought no one was making VCRs anymore but a news item in the business section of today's paper said that today, 31 July, the Funai Corporation in Japan will cease manufacturing VCRs.  They were the last company to manufacture VCRs.

And for all of us who still have Beta tapes, plus VHS tapes boxed up with no machine to play them on......

Can still play them on an old TV set with VCR incorporated... ditched a lot of tapes but still have several interesting and popular ones to watch from time to time...

Sad day though...

I donated all my vcr tapes to an old folks home long ago. I figured it would help with those long days with little to do except play cards and watch TV.  They were sure happy to get them! :emot_kiss:

That was good of you Lois... trouble was when I wanted to give mine away nobody wanted them... not old folks homes nearby... nor charity shops... Made me sad to get rid of them but they had to go...

My father has all kinds of VCR tapes from when they first started coming out in the 70's(?) I think it was.    Continued buying them.   Then movies from the 60's, 50's, 40's came out.     He probably has 1000 tapes.   We tried to play one last November and it was so grainy it was unwatchable, then we put another in, same, and another, same.     :'(   I was so sad.

Clean the head.  Use a very soft cotton cloth and rubbing alcohol.  Gently rub the head (two or four on the head carrier).  Make sure no lint left behind.

On a related topic, one thing I really miss is video stores. I don't know why but I just used to love being in a video store, looking through the aisles, trying to decide what to rent. Not sure why, but I always enjoyed that.

While you're waiting in vain for that apology, why don't you make yourself useful by getting on your knees and opening your mouth
