What I don't get, is that he would risk going to prison for so long by hijacking a plane, skydive over a forest without knowing if he has a clear landing zone or a way out, and for all this trouble and risk he only wanted $200,000? Why not say......$10,000,000?

While you're waiting in vain for that apology, why don't you make yourself useful by getting on your knees and opening your mouth

In 1971, $200,000 was a lot of money. I'm not smart enough and not inclined to figure out what that is worth today accounting for inflation.

That is all.

Google says it's about $1.2 million. Which is nothing to sneeze at.

Then again, for many people today, $200,000 is nothing to sneeze at, either.

I watched a thing on History channel about it thr other night. Two invetigator guys think they know who did it. It was someone that was at one point a suspect by the fbi (or at least questioned ). One theory was that this guy was angry for being bounced out of the military. So, he did it simply for the act and not the money at all.

Wasn't some of the money found years later in an area of the woods where Cooper was supposedly to have parachuted?

They found a small amount that was partially burnt on a beach or something I believe, but the majority never resurfaced.

The actual 727 Aircraft that was hi-jacked is still flying as a cargo airplane now and not as a passenger plane.

And after the hijacking, all 727s were re-engineered so that the rear loading stairs could not be lowered while in flight.

That is all.

In 1971 1.2 million dollars was the equivalent of around 7 million dollars today. Chances are like alot of people he didn't think the entire operation through. Probably figures leaping out of a plane with be a piece of cake and all.

And this all led to many people searching the remote wilderness in search of a fortune.

And finding very little I might add.
Except for that little kid who found a bunch of it on the river sandbar / river bank near where Cooper jumped.
Interestingly enough, if he had died in the Jump, you would have thought his body would have turned up by now or at least some bones.

Love,
Liz

I am sure the coyotes took care of that.

Up in the area where Cooper jumped, I am guessing wolves or bears would have feasted on his body instead of coyotes.

North East Oregon has coyotes. I know because I damn near hit one on the highway with a rental car late at night.

Unless the coyote is sick or injured and cannot chase their normal prey of small animals or bird eggs, then maybe they would munch on a human corpse.  Could be that turkey vultures feasted on Cooper.
