I couldn't sleep last night and my daughter won't leave me alone. So we spent most of the night talking and one of the subjects that came up was how she missed school pizza. I realized that... I kinda miss it. I can vaguely remember how school pizza tasted and how excited everyone was on pizza day. They knew we only wanted the pizza, but would give us corn and fruit to go with it. I think they eventually stopped with the corn because garbage bags were full of it. I remember we got pizza, corn , fruit and milk. You could choke down the fruit, but fuck the god damn corn. Kids don't want corn. My wife, the pro chef she is and could make anything you'd ever desire, could not replicate school pizza for me. She made it too perfect, too amazing. It didn't look right, it didn't taste right. All the ingredients were incredible, and I guess that was the problem. You can't replicate school pizza. My mouth is literally watering right now thinking about the tangy sauce and cheese. It's so fucking weird why I would crave school pizza.

Then a flood of memories hit me about all the things I had as a kid and don't have any more and I miss so much.

Something I crave on a semi-regular basis is a dessert I invented as a kid that I think is wonderful

Into a cereal bowl, place a honey glazed doughnut. Fill the hole with blueberries. Then put a scoop of ice cream on top of all of this and dump more blueberries on top of the ice cream. Enjoy  ;D ;D ;D

That is all.

I remember doing something like that and my mom just shrugging it off and walking away.  ;D

As a kid, every time the ice cream truck would come down the street I'd get a push-up.   I still think of push-ups when I hear the ice cream truck music.    I know I can get them in the store, but it's not the same as one minute playing hopscotch, and then you hear that special ice cream truck music, and the next minute the activity is stopped as you sit in the grass enjoying that creamy orange magical ice cream.

In Canada we called those things Creamsicles. Personally, I cannot stomach them although my wife thinks they are great.

That is all.

I have found that many things I thought were awesome as a kid are actually crap (places to eat, certain foods, etc.) I've gone to childhood restaurants and it wasn't anything like I remembered. It could be the restaurant changed, I changed, or both. I think it's 90% I have changed. Example, as a kid I loved Pizza Hut. Now it makes me sick to my stomach just thinking about it. Worse when I actually eat it.

That being said, there are a few things I miss. Fajitas that Taco Bell used to have years ago. School pizza was pretty good as were the soft chocolate chip cookies. Also, I won't eat certain foods because they'll never be like how my mom made them. Cheese cake, canned peaches, chili, etc.

I don't have any.  Seriously, everything y'all mentioned, other than school pizza, is still available.  But I have no idea what that Cherry Mash is that Toe mentioned.

Every Christmas when my grandparents would visit my grandma would bring cookies with a Hershey kiss in the middle.

Another thing no one can make like she can.

Pterodactyl Toffee ice cream. It was a limited flavor made by, I think, Country Fresh back in the 90's. I'm pretty sure they put crack in it.

I bought a box tonight, on the way home. I don't even like sherbert, but you put a taste bug in my brain.

I stopped at 7-11 on the way home to get MegaMillion tixs.   I looked in the ice cream chest for them.   No luck.  :(

I love orange sherbet.  So jealous right now.

I never was a sherbert fan. My mother and sisters are.
I'm always seeing sherbert especially orange at the supermarket in the neighborhood. In the 48oz tubs.

Some of the flavors are pretty good. Mango, as an example, is pretty stellar. Orange on the other hand..... 0vomit0

Must be a girl thing.   Orange sherbet and any fruit together.   Yum

Back to the original topic........

Trix cereal.  Silly rabbit.    I actually still have them once in a while.

Okay, question.   As a kid, I used to eat my cereal and just stare at the box while reading all four sides.   I still do that.   Anybody else?

Yes, when I was a kid I would read the entire box too. However, I don't do it anymore. I also used to pick cereal based on the prize inside. Prizes have been gone from cereal for quite some time although I think they're starting to make a comeback.

I still read my favorite cereal boxes. They were more fun when I was a kid though. :P

I have always loved pop-tarts.   My mom has pictures of me at a very young age eating them.

I still eat them today.    A sale at Kroger and I will buy 30 boxes.     Eat 1 packet (2 poptarts) every single day.
