I have a friend who owns a vacation home in San Miguel de Alende, and for the longest time, she was driving from Laredo to her house over some pretty “not safe after sunset“ roads. Finally had a serious scare. She only goes by bus now. Which is a huge relief for everyone that knows and loves her.

Outside of the towns/cities, there is no such thing as a safe after sunset road. Between the narrowness, the animals and the shitty drivers, I do not drive after dark. OK. Only short distances like 10 miles (El Centenario to La Paz).

That is all.

That sucks.  I haven't been on mine since before my youngest was born.  Had one too many close calls on it before getting to the point where the fun wasn't worth the risk anymore.

May I suggest the next step in the gearhead evolution, the project car?  Or even the project bike?  It's like owning a bike, except it runs on hopes and dreams and doesn't go anywhere for long stretches at a time.  Nothing says "I still like bikes" like a stripped down frame on jack stands sitting in your garage.

In that scenario, I need a garage first. We haven't yet secured accommodation for the upcoming winter. The second, and most important thing that shoots this idea down is I'm not mechanically inclined. And, the CFO and She Who Must Be Obeyed would likely not approve the financial expenditure for that.

That is all.

I used to have a law office in Ciudad Victoria, the capital of Tamaulipas. So I have spent a lot of time in Mexico. Tamaulipas has a very serious drug cartel problem. A lot of the politicians I was friendly with have since been murdered or forced out of office. Any gringo that wants to travel the open roads alone in Mexico is just asking for trouble. Stay safe my friend.

FWIW, with regards to criminal activity, Baja California and Baja California Sur and quite safe. We go to La Paz which is consistently rated in the top 5 (usually 1 or 2) for safest cities in Mexico. Most "cartel" activity is closer to the border with the US. That's not to say that drug and other illegal activity isn't present because it is. But, the Baja Peninsula is not a producing area nor is it part of the highway to get the product to market.

That is all.

I have a friend who owns the Prince of Bohemia Estate (Bohemia Beer) just outside of Cabo. I have spent a lot of time down there. Love it.

Dan was rude to me twice today. Once he told me to be quiet when I was complaining that he was tailgating. Okay, my fault, but don't sat 'be quiet'.  Another time he was on the phone talking to the service department about our RV that. Is being worked on, I was trying to get his attention to remind them to check the hydraulic fluids.  He looked at me and said, "hush".

That was what ruined my day ^

What made my day v

I ran the dishwasher at 4:00. As it was running, I poured some water under it and on to the ground in front of it. I told him the dishwasher was leaking.  He pulled it out and looked it over and said everything looked fine.  I ran it again at 7:00.  I also poured more water on the floor.  When he came in from the garage half hour ago, he stepped in the water.  So, right now he has the dishwasher pulled out and is replacing a hose.  While I'm enjoying a glass of bourbon on the patio.

My friend Barb told me that she read where someone had done this.  Not my original idea, but am happy to use it.

Note to self: Don’t mess with the Sheriff. I’m having a MJ MJ. I will never tell you to hush.

It's never nice to tell a woman to be quiet. We prefer them louder anyway 😇

Haaargh!

So, my father, my sister and her family are here to celebrate Dad's 70th. We are supposed to be visiting the zoo in the morning, then have a birthday dinner that night. So, we decided to get Munchkin tested, make sure they were negative, which we were confident he was.

No prizes for guessing what actually happened.

So, zoo is out, and I'll be the only person out of the three of us (i.e. me, wife, kid) attending dinner with dad and sister's fam. Plus Munchkin's out of school for another week, and I'll have to go back to online sessions while the kid's under quarantine.

And we had been doing so well too...

Hope the little one's recovery is fast. This thing is going to stay around forever I fear. It's going to be like the flu, regular shots every year combating new variants. I miss not seeing the doctor's and nurses'  faces when I make my frequent medical visits.
Sorry the b-day party was missed.

Best wishes to you and your family.

Trivial in the grand scheme of things, but I lost my mobile phone last night. Bummer!

Not trivial.  That’s a terrible inconvenience and costly.

Definitely not trivial. My world would come to a screeching halt, and then when I start to think about everything that I didnt have a chance to backup, I'd have a panic attack

Compared to the tribulations of others on here it was something that will only inconvenience me for a day or two. Lost my streak at Wordle  >:(

That alone would ruin my day. Plus my secure encrypted photo vault, that I don’t keep a back up of.

Short of someone grabbing the phone out of my hands and stealing it, I haven’t lost a phone since I got my first brick cellphone in 1987.  I did have one vibrate off the bathroom counter and land in the toilet, while I was showering.

I lost my phone tuesday. Spent the week looking for it. Was about to have it turned off, when I found it on my desk under the mountain of papers. Felt like an ass since.

I woke up this morning and reached for my phone. It said I had over 20+ text messages. That is never a good thing. So I open SMS and there is a lengthy diatribe from my baby brother, calling me every name in the book, and stating he is ghosting and blocking me and will never speak to me again. He has some anger management issues. And a drinking problem. And a bad habit of texting while drunk. But still it is very painful to hear “you are an asshole” from a man you carried on your back in your youth. Ugh.

Been tired a lot lately...even tho' I'm sleeping 7 hours a night. Woke up at 4 AM this morning. Gave the cat his treats he demanded first thing, then took my pain medications so I could walk. Did a few other things except make my bed...cat had curled up by my pillow and settled in.

Sat down in front of the TV to catch some news. Next thing I knew I was waking up two hours later. Just went out like a light. Now I'm two hours behind in.....in....um nothing. I'm retired damn it. I missed nothing. I do have a couple appointment today, but still have time to get ready. The cat has moved so guess I'll go make my bed.

Good morning KBers. I love you. :emot_kiss:

My dad was ripped off by scam artists. I feel sorry for him, but I immediately told him its suspicious. But who knows better, a scientist or someone with over 20 years experience in IT?
