So sorry to hear about that Ao1. Paxlovid is an oral antiviral pill that can be taken at home to help keep patients testing Covid positive  from getting so sick that they need to be hospitalized. So, if you test positive for the coronavirus and you are eligible to take the pills, you can take them at home and lower your risk of going to the hospital.

I’ve had several friends that have had great success with this medication, but they really had to push their doctors to prescribe it. And it really should be taken within two days of showing symptoms. But they both had good results. So this is something you might want to talk about with your healthcare provider.
I'm not sure it's been approved here yet (Australia can be a little slow sometimes with approving new drugs; I appreciate the caution, but yeah...some people need it now). In either case, COVID has been a lot better than the cold that struck me two weeks ago, which did my head in for most of the week I had it, so I may be okay without it.

Extinguishing the Flame is available on Amazon and supports Australian Bush fire relief.

Relieved to hear that you’re doing well. I had it back in January and it was just awful. Speedy recovery my friend.

My daughter called this morning. Their kitty has been sick. We talked to her about it yesterday. They live in northern New York, near the Adirondacks.  There are only a few vets and all were too booked up to see them. In every call they made they were told it would be over 20 days to get an appointment.

Yesterday they drove an hour and a half to a larger town and were able to see a veterinarian. They were told kitty was fine and was just stressed. Maybe she'd had a scare in the woods and had to climb a tree to get away from something. Gave her IV of saline as she was dehydrated and sent them home.

This morning kitty was having trouble breathing and liquid running out of her nose. They are going to have to put her down. The cat is only 10 years old. She travels with them when they come to visit and has been such a sweetheart when I hold her. We feel like grandparents to her...part of the family.

Daughter says no more pets, as there's no medical help for them if they get sick. They still have their dog. After the first time she came to visit(the dog), she recognized where they were going several blocks away on the second visit. Started barking and we can hear her coming soon as they turn the corner 3/4s of a block away. Pets...they leave paw prints on our hearts that stay there.

Pets are  a part of the family. I've watched so many friends hurting terribly when they lose a pet.  Hugs to you and your family.  Sad day.

Thanks for the sympathy. We only saw the cat twice a year when they visit. Still she was an extended part of the family. My sadness is more for daughter and son in law. He was the most upset. Daughter is tough and practical and handling this better.

My thoughts are if they can't take care of animals in the backwoods, what kind of care do humans get?

Thanks for the sympathy. She's at peace now.

They buried her in her favorite spot...under the bird feeder.

Just generally feeling shitty. I'm not getting enough exercise and have been sitting around too much.  Walking on my foot hurts after a while. I push it to its limit before it starts throbbing and then I need to sit and elevate it.   It felt great in the pool over the weekend, because it iis in that suspended weightless feeling. But then I get out and walk on it and it throbs.  As for exercise, I make it to the basement and lift weights, upper body.  But that is over with in 30 minutes.  I need this thing to heal. #day10 and the last few days I've noticed very little improvement.  :'(

That seems a bit too long Jules. Have you seen a doctor and gotten an x- ray? If trying to push through the pain isn't working, time for some professional help.

Love you and want to see you back in fighting form safely. You need to be fit for your duties as Madam Sheriff. :emot_kiss:

That is one bad sprain. If there is any bruising, you may want to get checked for a break or torn ligament.

Had the X-ray on day 1.  It was severe, but no mention of any damage. Just a sprain. , almost (seeming) to bend my foot in half.  Giving it a few more days.  I just need exercise and there is so little I can do with this darned foot.

As someone who's injured himself with alarming frequency, go to a physio rather than a doctor, and do the recovery excercises.

Quick update on my friend's situation from a couple weeks back.  I spoke to one of my old friends last week to get the details.  It was crazier than I knew.

Before our friend Ann (fake names, obviously) died, she told Mary, one of her closest friends for 30 years going back to elementary school, that she didn't want a fancy funeral, just have a small party for her where everyone could laugh and have fun.  She didn't care about being buried or cremated, but leaned toward cremation because it's cheaper.  Ann told Mary this less than a week before she died.

When our friend Ann died, her family contacted their extended family about it but none of her friends.  The friends only found out from her fiance.  Keep in mind that Ann's mom was supposed to be like a mother to Mary and Ann's other friends, at least that's how Mary described it.  Ann's family came from far and wide, some even coming from down in Louisiana to come up and pay their respects.  We're in the Rust Belt.  They had a small church ceremony (Ann was Agnostic leaning toward Atheist) and only invited a couple of 'Ann's closest friends' to come over to her house for the wake.  We only know of one 'friend' that was invited and she is a total bible-thumping kiss ass.

If that wasn't bad enough, the family turned Ann's wake into a barbecue and pool party.  Yes, a pool party.  For the wake of their daughter/sister/fiancé/mother/cousin/etc.

Now, knowing how Ann's wishes were for a small get together for family and friends, I could almost make sense of hanging out and a little frivolity.  But with the way the family flipped their shit on Mary and Ann's other friends for wanting to remember her, I can't give them the benefit of the doubt.  Not in the slightest.

You don't get to sit there and bitch about how people want to remember your sister 2 months later when you had a fucking pool party in her memory 3 days after she died.

The family also went on a blocking spree, cutting out anyone who spoke up against them.  Mary sent around the text messages she had with Ann's family where they gave her permission to do this, and made it very clear that the family didn't have to pay a single cent.  Instead, we're "heartless monsters" for not respecting how much pain they're in.  Must've been one hell of a fucking sunburn from that pool party.

So, after talking with Mary and getting all of that, we all came up with the same idea.  Have a party, don't invite any family members or anyone who was at the pool party.  If they get invited, they'll snitch.  Beside's Ann's name is nowhere near the invite.  Everything is being done offline.  I'm probably going to go and stop by for a bit.  The only reason for the conditional statement is life happens.

Moral of the story:  If your loved one dies, don't be a dick if people you don't invite to the 'official' mourning want to grieve in their own way.  Be flattered that so many care enough to remember them, not a petty fuckface because "your in pain."

Sold my motorcycle  :( Had to be done. While highway riding in Baja is OK and in some places would be a lot of fun, riding in La Paz itself would be akin to playing Russian roulette.

That is all.

I have a friend who owns a vacation home in San Miguel de Alende, and for the longest time, she was driving from Laredo to her house over some pretty “not safe after sunset“ roads. Finally had a serious scare. She only goes by bus now. Which is a huge relief for everyone that knows and loves her.

That sucks.  I haven't been on mine since before my youngest was born.  Had one too many close calls on it before getting to the point where the fun wasn't worth the risk anymore.

May I suggest the next step in the gearhead evolution, the project car?  Or even the project bike?  It's like owning a bike, except it runs on hopes and dreams and doesn't go anywhere for long stretches at a time.  Nothing says "I still like bikes" like a stripped down frame on jack stands sitting in your garage.
