A big customer/client meeting today, and all we had to do, is come up with a nice package to sell them, and no one could do it. I had to come from my office, into a meeting I was not part of, to help save a group I am not responsible for, because their manager fucked off to narnia for a long liquid lunch. Not making myself out to be a hero, because quite frankly, the clients were transferred from our department to the department that handles "problem" (I.E. those who have trouble paying what they owe, or are generally rude or insufferable.) I had dealt with them often before the transfer, as they would have eyes bigger than their wallets. They would order equipment from us, expecting top of the line, but at bargain basement prices. My boss at the time almost lost his job when they told him their budget, and our distributors would generally laugh in our faces when we told them their offers. So no, I was no hero today, and its a pretty solid bet that they will take their business elsewhere.
If I have not said so, we basically wholesale heavy diesel equipment, that would be considered overstock to rental companies and major contractors. My job is to go over documents to check things for errors. Well that was before I became a low end manager, now I have to crack the whip, on top of keeping my workflow solid. I was so angry, I had to leave for a few to go scream at clouds. How hard is it to say "Look, you don't have enough for three bulldozers AND a Lull." I mean the clients were asshats, but not stupid. Once they got the point, it would be easy to make a sale on stock that's not as wonderful as named brand, but still better than nothing, and still pretty good too. Nope, they wanted what they wanted, and could not afford it. The meeting should have ended there, but that department was hard up for a sale. Amateurs.
