Waking up to look at my phone, and seeing that I had 23 missed calls on it. Calls from the county jail, calls from local police department, calls from my son, just a big hot stinking bowl of mess. Turns out he got drunk, was going somewhere with the family dog in his truck, and got busted for DUI.

Animal Control Services (ACS) ended up with the dog. So I had to drive 100 miles to get her out of doggy jail. Son got himself bailed out. I told him I would not be representing him this time. I am furious with him. Hope he will get into recovery and straighten himself out.

Ugh.  So sorry. I'm sure it was tough telling him that, but it will be a valuable lesson for him.

What’s wrong with Star Wars Day?  ???
It’s not like I made that up or something.
It has it’s own Wikipedia page and everything.
And neither did I spam the place with Star Wars stuff. :-X
Sometimes I just don’t get it.  :(

So I'm in my little kitchen listening to music on headphones because I needed it loud, and didnt want to blast my stereo and anger the neighbors. I'm chopping veggies for some mushroom cap pizzas when I start smelling something a bit off. I dont think much of it and then it hits me again. I have my.kitchen window cracked a bit and when I get closer to it I smell that stuff they add to natural gas. I dont th8nk too much of it at first as there have been utility workers across the street working on stuff for about a week. Next thing I know, there is a face in my window and it scared the ever loving hell out of me. Not just because I wasnt expecting a fireman to stick his face in my window, but because, even with the heat off it was 72° in my apartment and warm enough to be comfortable in a tank and panties. I nearly threw my knife at the window. He jumped back pretty quick and started yelling at me. I took my headphones off and he told me I needed to evacuate my apartment because of the has leak. I can not use my car to get anywhere and needed to walk to the end of the block.

I threw on some pajama pants and my mukluks and I was out the door. I didnt bother with my phone as I was kinda rushed. Me and all the other people in my apartment and those across the street all stood at the end of out block for nearly three hours as the finally got the leak stopped and the area was safe enough for us to go back home. Had some pleasant conversations with the neighbors and was able to pet and play with some doggos as we waited. There was a paramedic there with us and the woman paramedic have me a blanket because it was much chillier outside and I wasnt wearing a bra and the girls were poking and a few were staring. Any other time, I probably would have teased at least one, but I am not in the mood for that.

The firefighter did find me later and apologized for scaring me but I didnt hear him pounding on my door at all. My noise canceling headphones are really good.

It was so weird because even as far away as we were, we could see the gas coming up. Like looking over a heat source and things appear wavy. It was a LOT of gas leaking out. I opened my closet and got hit with the smell of gas again. I opened all my doors and windows trying to air put my apartment. I'm thinking I may need to do the same for my car...

You should have heard the scream I let out when that fireman stuck his head in my window. I was told by the paramedics that it caused the utility workers to stop and look. I get chills now just thinking about him popping up.  Honestly it was more scary than a gas leak.

Too scary... and I'm not talking about the window peeking fireman. That much gas could have taken out your whole block.

Glad I read about this here and not in the morning paper.

Glad you're safe. :emot_kiss:

I once was woken up in the middle of the night my a thud in the house.  That in itself is a miracle, since I sleep through burglar alarms going off above my head.  So, I walk around the pitch dark with a club in my hand, and am ready to kill. A second thud and I walk towards the noise.  Walking past the car, club at the ready, my cat slips from under the car and rubs up against my leg.  I damn near shat myself, and nearly killed the cat.

New London, Texas 1937. A gas explosion killed 300 students and teachers at a school. Within weeks of the explosion, thiol (mercaptan, an odorous sulfur compound) was added to natural gas. That is what you smell.

The reason this freaked me out so much is when I was about 18 years old, a friend and I were driving from our home to her boyfriends baseball game near his home about 20 miles north.  We were driving through the city about halfway between. Stopped at one of the stoplights at the south end of the small downtown, about 200 yards away a building exploded.  The explosion happened and we sat there thinking did this really happen, 10 seconds later brick hit her car.  Traffic came to a gridlocked mess and a cloud of dust came rolling down main street and enveloped our car.  Freaked us the F out.  Someone died and about 20 people were injured if I remember correctly.

Gas stories trigger this memory.

So thankful you're okay, S.

Glad you are safe Shiela.

I once warned my neighbour that I had reported a gas leak in the street outside.  The supply company told us to turn our gas powered water heaters off and not switch on/off any lights or electrical appliances until they had fixed it.  My neighbours refused "because it's winter and we are cold"

Princess, would you like to see it light up and hum when I wave it about

My kindle is lagging terribly.  I've restarted it.  Wiped out all the content and refreshed it.  Still acting up.

update: found an article about the explosion

In the spring of '09 we just had the landscaping done on the house we had built. We needed to get a sprinkler to keep the sod alive. So, we leave the house and drive over to the closest Canadian Tire store to get said sprinkler. When we exited the store, we saw fire, police and ambulance heading at high speed north of where we were. We took an alternate route home because we figured it might have been a traffic accident that would block the way. As we are driving, I look north and see a large black cloud and figure it is an asphalt based issue on the highway being built. Turned onto the avenue we lived on and realized, it wasn't on the highway. We pulled into our driveway to see that a house about a block and a half away was "on fire". Turns out, some ass hat killed his girlfriend and was trying to make it look like she died in a fire. Unfortunately for him, the gas blew the house up before he could get out. The four or five closest houses were knocked off of their foundations. There were no houses or other buildings between that house and ours. The only damage we suffered was a picture got knocked off the wall in the powder room on the first floor.

This event was tragic. From a personal perspective, the worst part was all the damn looks-lou's who for the next three weeks clogged our street.

That is all.

My former step-brother-in-law lost his house in a huge gas fireball. Leveled everything. Fortunately they were all away at the time.  But it was horrific.

I never once considered the gas hitting anything inside my apartment that would start a fire. One of the few days in the past couple weeks that I hadn't had a couple candles lit. I was just thinking breathing problems or if the leak caught fire. I've been around plenty of explosions in my life, and none from a gas leak. The6ve been working to not only replace a section of pipe for the gas line, but also finish doing what they were before. If you drive around my neighborhood, every so often you'll see a huge orange pipe sticking up out of people's yards. I have no idea what they are doing
