Found out our really great neighbors, across the street are selling their house.
I was out front yesterday afternoon riding herd on the cats, when a FedEx truck pulled up. the driver struggled with a large bundle of thin boxes all taped together plus several smaller boxes.
A short time later the neighbor lady came out, grabbed one of the smaller boxes and took it to the back of the house. I crossed the street knowing she'd need help with the big bundle. As she came back to the front and saw me a big smile lit up her face. Ah...I thought, she's glad of the help.
First thing she said was, "I have exciting news!" "We're putting the house up for sale." I felt like my face hit the ground. She went on to explain that they're pulling up stakes and going to travel around the country for a year. Now I'm sure my face was speaking volumes, none of the emotions happy.
Since the pandemic, they're both working remotely and it's been going great. A decision was made by their kids school to keep learning remote too. So, in this digital age, they are free to travel while still working and going to school. Will be doing AirB&Bs, staying here and there. What an adventure and great learning experience for the kids.
I felt guilty later at being so obvious in my disappointment of learning that they're leaving. Upon reflection I realized what a wonderful opportunity this is for them. They're at the right age for the adventure, the digital age makes it possible and with the world in such a flux now is the time to take advantage of the opportunity.
I did see her this morning and told her how happy I am they are able to do this. No doubt we'll have a big send off on the block before they leave. We are a close knit neighborhood.
