As far as she's concerned the word "oriental" would imply they're all the same.
Well, the way I use Oriental, I mean more specifically than "Asian." Asia is Huge, the "Far East" is Eurocentric (And wrong, since the Far East is West of America) but the Orient is South-East of the Himalayas. If I know the specific culture, I say that, but I just found out that the one in the wheelchair was Blonde!
"Oriental" is more specific than "Asian," because it exclude far flung ends of Asia like Turkey, and Siberia. In other words, not all Asians are alike, a Cossack isn't Tajiik, and Singapore isn't Japan.
Koreans have an even lesser view of the Japanese. Must be that whole subjugating them for a decade in the last century thing.
South Koreans? (IDK how North Koreans feel about Kimchi, because I don't get to hear much from them any more.) I thought it was the whole fighting China over the peninsula with Japan, because America forced them to trade with US, and England got China addicted to Kashmiri Opium to force them to trade tea?
Let's be honest, we all know who the bad guys are here.
