Severely congested for 3 weeks now.  Yesterday and Sunday weren’t so bad, but today I’m feeling bad again.  I’m so stuffed up, I mostly can’t get any air moving to even blow my nose.  I was blaming the high pollen this year but never had a bad reaction previously.  One thing’s for sure, Claritin doesn’t help worth a fuck.

What about Sudafed?

One of my brothers, who developed season allergies when he was in his late 30s, takes Zyrtec, and he swears by it.

For sinusitis aggravated by allergic rhinitis (or severe congestion),
12 to 50mg Benadryl (diphenhydramine)
50-60mg Sudafed (pseudoephedrine)
600-1200mg Guaifenesin

12mg is a kid's dose of Benadryl, and most adults can tolerate it without sleepiness.  It counters the root of allergic rhinitis, blocking the histamine reaction.  I take 50mg before bed so my lungs don't fill with crap overnight.
Sudafed is good for drying the sinuses and nasal areas.  Most people can tolerate it.
Guaifenesin loosens or thins the mucus so it's easier for it to pass.

I give a weaker version of the above to people that are somewhat new to Dallas and have had >90% success rate in clearing their symptoms within an hour or two,
12mg Benadryl
30-40mg Sudafed
300-600mg Guaifenesin

You can find Sudafed + Guaifenesin in a combo drug like Mucinex D (or cheaper store brands), and then just add a kid's Benadryl.

Some of the people I gave the weaker dose to said it was magic... their doctor hadn't suggested anything that worked even half as well.  Sudafed alone to relieve the congestion doesn't address the root (rhinitis) of the problem, so it'll come right back.

In Phoenix I only had seasonal allergies, but here it's every damned day.  I tried every OTC and prescription antihistamine when I first moved here, and Benadryl was the only thing that worked long-term.  Everything else lost it's effect after a month or two.

Thanks Katie, MissB, RF.  I have to try something.  I’m not entirely sure it’s not a cold.  I’ve been so darn busy with a wedding coming up while trying not to miss work, otherwise I’d have gone to the doctor already.  At least I’m sleeping OK, but then a few fingers of Four Roses bourbon at night might be helping with that.  That, and cuddling up with a hot Peruvian girl.  I pick her up at her sister’s in a little while.  We’re on episode 6 season 5 of GoT, so maybe a few more episodes tonight.  I’m caught up on it all, but it’s her first run through.  She loves it, except I do a lot of explaining while we watch.

Wowzers, 7 pages of UNREAD MESSAGES to go through after returning from a 5 day break.
I have too much going on at work and won't get through them all.   A quick skim of them and hopefully I catch all the important ones.

Viral gastroenteritis.  Google if you need an explanation.

Just so tired, I could sleep at my desk at work right now.

Home renovations going on and preparing for the wedding.  Painters have been at the house the last 4 weekends beginning at 7AM Saturday and Sunday.  They haven’t just been painting, closets were remodeled including framing and drywall work and the main bathroom completely renovated.

I take my Peruvian home a couple times a week, which involves getting up at 4:30AM.  We rarely get to sleep before midnight with so much going on.  She’s off Tuesdays and Thursdays so sleeps in those days, but not me.  I haven’t got a full 8 hours sleep in over a month.  Last night I may have got 3.5 hours sleep.  At least the horrendous congestion I had has been gone for the last week.

Next week is the honeymoon, so I probably won’t let her out of bed before 2PM.  I figure we’ll be in bed by 10PM, so that’s 16 hours in bed.  OK, maybe I only need 8 hours sleep, but I’m sure I can figure out something to do with the rest of that time.  And, I have handcuffs.

5 people lined up, in the first hour, to make sure that I don't enjoy talking about the people I care about.

5 people, in a row.  High 5s all around, I can't even wait until my enemies aren't online, because they'll see that I posted, and be there to tell me I suck as soon as I wake up in the morning.

5 people who want to make sure, I can't have a good day.  Not here.

Spent the day in hospital with my son (not that serious, just looong), and on the way home get a call that my mother has fallen and broken the head of her femur into three pieces.

It's 21:30 here, and she is being transferred to another hospital, an hour away from the first one she was taken to (and a nine-hour drive from me), for surgery.

Bloody hell IB... That's terrible news.

Like the others, I hope the healing process will pass by as soon as it can, but from the sound of it, it might take quite a time.

Good luck and best wishes to you and yours...

Issues with HVAC and some plumbing issues in parts of the building.  It affects my office.  I'm moving out of my office into a cubicle some time soon so they can rip out my ceiling and do some work.  Some other offices affected also.   I can't be out in the general office and be on KB, too.

What if I'm reviewing images ensuring they're withing the rules, for instance, "You can't please everyone, so you've got to please yourself", and Delores walks behind me?

Hmmm, this could cause some issues for me visiting KB during work hours.  Maybe I should do some actual work during that time.

Ugh!

I'm not travelling, yet.

Surgery is scheduled for tomorrow, it's going to involve rods, plates, meccano sets, nuts bolts and quite possibly the surgeon's kid's Lego. Big jobs, and long recovery, complicated by the fact that she reacts badly to every know anaesthetic...

I am not a happy bunny.
