After years of being asked when I want this test done I finally am scheduled for mid-April. Just reading about what I have to do before the test is enough to make me not want to have it.  The nurse  kept asking me all these heart related questions and I had to ask her just how far up were they going to go? Probably will be my first and only time I will have this procedure. Ugh

They gave me one in the hospital, when I had my last heart attack.  Didn’t ask for it.  I was pretty out of it.  But everything looked good, so I am glad I had it.

The prep is the worse part.  Hint: Add a couple packets of Crystal Lemonade powder to the gallon of crap you have to drink.

As for the procedure...they give you good drugs!  Just relax and enjoy.  You can watch on the monitor if you'd like to see your insides or just go to sleep. That's what I do.  Again, GOOD DRUGS!

They put you in a twilight state. Been in that state many times. Best sleep I get.

Well, that's a pain in the ass!

Actually it's not. Once they wheeled me into the procedure room (with my eyes closed), I heard the anesthesiologist say, "Let's just get this mask on." Next thing I heard was a nurse saying, "We can take this mask off now." Not even a little discomfort after the fact.

As mentioned, the worst happens the day before. I wish I'd known about the Crystal Lite suggestion. Drinking 4 liters of devil's brew in 12 hours is not much fun.

That's SIXTEEN 8-ounce glasses, half in a two hour span at night and then the other half the morning of the procedure. I drank the last glass at 6:15 and at 6:30 I "undrank" it, so to speak. That stuff should be illegal for human consumption.

Not to be indelicate, but you can probably guess which room I spent most of the night in. At least I had a good long novel on my phone to read.

I had one polyp (whatever that is) removed during the procedure, which couldn't be done using the mail-in version. The doctor also said there was some diverticulitis, which he called normal wear and tear.

Bottom line (no pun intended  :D) I don't think I'll ever have another one, at least not by choice.

That was suspposed to be a joke, but I'm glad everything came out all right.

;)

They'll have to biopsy it to find out what it is.  If it's nothing, then they probably won't even call you to tell you.  "You have nothing."

Be glad you aren't me... I went through the colon prep THREE TIMES.  The first time was pointless... it didn't do shit (pardon the pun).  The second time was better: I ran clear eventually, although the proctologist said that I still had 3 to 5 pounds worth of plant matter jammed up there.  They'd double dosed me for the second try.

I.E. the doctor told me I was full of shit, AND HE PROVED IT.  He blamed my (mostly) vegetarian diet.

The third time they went even MORE extreme on the prep, and it finally cleaned me out enough that he could take the pix he wanted.  He identified 3 polyps (all benign) and said that was pretty normal.  He was surprised at what he'd had to put me through to get my intestines cleaned out, though.  He said he'd never had anyone that needed more than the second (doubled) dose.

Remember the Golden Rule: you do me, and I\'ll do you (paraphrased)

RopeFiend, I know how you feel, I had to take the colonoscopy prep and had the procedure to find a small bleed and when they couldn’t find it they shoved a camera down my throat (upper endoscopy) and found a bleed in the small intestine.
They tattooed where the bleed was in my intestine then did keyhole surgery to cut out part of my intestine and join it back together.
Taking the prep was the hardest part of everything they did, luckily I enjoy drinking clear soup and black tea and clear drinks. I lost a lot of weight done the toilet bowl it’s not a diet I would recommend.

My first one was while I was in the hospital with a blockage in small intestine.  I'd had a NG tube in for several days and wasn't allowed food or water all that time.

When the prep time came, the nurse came in with a huge syringe.  She'd fill it full and squirted the solution through the NG tube straight to my tummy, no swallowing that crap!

The sweetheart nurse also got me into a private room.  The bathroom was shared with the room next to me but she said the guy in there wouldn't be using it. Later I walked by and saw him.  He had about a dozen tubes going in and out of him. Decided my problems weren't so bad. BTW...slept through most of the procedure. Lot to be said for good drugs.

Had to look that one up IB.  We call it ER.  So sorry, sending you positive energy, and a prayer sent up.

Yeah, that sucks.  Best wishes for a benign diagnosis, and good recovery.

The last several times I've had that it was a stroke (all minor in my case, resolved within 10 minutes or less, scary nonetheless).

Sorry about that IB, and shit, me too.  Except my Peruvian missed a step on her stairs after I dropped her off this morning.  By noon she could barely keep any weight on her right foot.  So I met her at her work this evening, helped her to her car, followed her home, then took her to the ER where we spent a few hours.  Good news is it’s not broken, she’s just on crutches for a few days until it’s not painful, with Motrin and rest.

The nurses at one point in the ER asked me, ‘What is your relationship to the patient?’
I pointed at her finger and replied, ‘I’m the one that bought that rock.’
That got a few giggles, and they asked her if she said yes.

Thanks, folks!

I *feel* fine, no other symptoms that might indicate a stroke, just currently very "aware" of my left eyeball (you know how you suddenly remember that you have a rough bit at the roof of your mouth? Like that, but "I have an eye in that socket"), and waiting for the neurologist to contact me with an appointment.

...waiting for the neurologist to contact me with an appointment...

Neurologists are almost as bad as Oncologists when you're waiting to get the results back.  At least for me, I know my nerves is fucked up, and getting worse...

What sucks for me is finding out how much worse.  Progressive is usually a good thing, but not when it's in the same sentence with Chronic.
