Dogs broke into my back yard on Thursday and slaughtered most of my hens.  They also killed Little Mama, one of my cats.

They returned on Friday, broke through my repairs to the fence and killed another of my chickens.  Then Saturday morning they came again and now I can't find my last chicken.

I spent the day drafting a demand for compensation letter and mailed it to the dogs' owner.

Call animal control.  Serious shit.

Very sorry Lois, I’ve lost both hens and a cat once too to loose dogs.  Although most times I’ve lost hens was due to unknown predators that could have been dog/dogs.

Make it clear you don’t want just compensation, like Merv said dogs not under control in a pack are a serious danger.

How traumatic an experience this must have been for you.  And to relive it twice.  I'm so sorry you had to go through this.

I called Animal control and they said they could not do anything because I did not witness the attack.  But the neighbor has video of them on the loose and going across the street to my house, and the other neighbor saw them leaving my yard with feathers in their mouths. But still not good enough because the attacks were not witnessed.

So a demand letter is the best I can do.  If I make it too expensive for him to keep the dogs maybe he'll get rid of them.

A high school crush, and section mate from my drum corps, died.  She was only 57.  She had the sweetest smile, and kindest laugh.  Just an angel playing the glockenspiel in my small town band.  Too soon.  Memory eternal.

Hugs.   57 is too soon.

What ruined my day.    I haven't been able to visit by brother-in-law in his care facility because I was sick.   I called there this morning and they want me to wait until at least Saturday.    At least my dad has been taking my niece to see him the past 9 days.

Bedbugs are back in bed with me... I had 2 blissful months without the little bastards.  I'll have to 'cook' my bedroom again this weekend.  Luckily I'd already moved just about everything out of there, so I won't have to run it so hot nor for as long as I did during Christmas.  I ran it at 150F for 13 hours then to make sure I killed everything in the boxes under the bed.  No boxes this time, so a couple of hours at 125F ought to do it.

Dunno exactly how they got past the isolators; maybe I slipped up and brought one or more to bed with me.  That, or I'd let the blanket overhang the bed and they crawled up it.  I haven't seen any since I cooked my bedroom, but I *know* they're still here.  :'(

The isolators are shallow cups with mineral oil in them.  I see dead bugs in the oil, and I'm pretty sure they can't swim over it from what I'd read.  I also added a drop of bedbug-specific insecticide to each isolator's mineral oil, Just In Case that might help.

My fucking asshole boss did not have my paycheck ready until 6:30 PM.  I was the last person in the office paid. That’s one of the reasons, this motherfucker makes we want to quit. However, I am addicted to getting something in the bank every two weeks. This happens every single fucking time. Goddamnit.

From 'The Fifth Element', see the part starting at about 0:54 to 1:50

Yep, temp in my bedroom is already at 115F / 45C, climbing to around 145-150F (65C) for the next few hours.  That'll nuke the little bastards.

March 3rd and *now* it starts snowing?  Seriously?! It's been like 7 to 9 all winter with peaks up to 13°C.
I wanted to prepare my balcony herbs garden this weekend.

Aren’t you in Europe Hades?  I recall being in Belguim in mid-March and a snow storm hit, they told us it was the only snow they got that winter.  It’s a little weird but I’ve been in Europe a few times, and for some reason snow storms follow us around when I’m there; show up in Budapest, next day snow storm, repeated on many trips in many cities.

Yes, Europe, Belgium, Flanders, Antwerp just to be complete ;)  But European is totally fine with me.  I consider myself an EU citizen.
It's not that uncommon.  Just that we had some uncommonly warm winters the last couple of years, this one being one of them.  So I kinda assumed winter was over.
As an aside... don't be fooled by the short distances.  Budapest may only be some 1000km from Brussels, but the regions opposite the British Channel (North-Western France, Belgium and South-West Holland have a totally different climate (ie milder winters *and* milder summers) than the continental climate of mid- and eastern Europe.  Like for instance Budapest, Hungary.  March snowstorms would be a lot more likely in Budapest than in Brussels or Antwerp.
Guess the weather Gods just took your travels personal ;)

I was in Ghent when the snow hit after just leaving Antwerp.  It was 2008 and more late March than early.

Given we’re talking about snow in Europe and ruined days, it reminded me of something sad that happened when I was in my wife’s home town of Katowice Poland over a decade ago.

It was icy from past snow and fresh snow was falling.  I was walking the icy streets and noticed a young girl walking partly because, well she was a young girl, and partly because I couldn’t believe she had heels on.  Sure enough and terribly unfortunate, she fell very hard right before my eyes.

I ran over and bent down to the still girl touching and and speaking to her.  She seemed to be out, but then abruptly came to and began crying and was speaking Polish.  I kept talking to her and she switched to broken English.  Two women came over and one called emergency services with her cell.

The girl’s hands and arms were moving, but her legs bent in awkward positions were not.  We all knew enough not to try and move her, especially since if she could move her legs herself she probably would have.  She also was pointing at her face and speaking; her face was on the curb, and I think her jaw was broken.

She kept lifting her face off the icy curb, and I knew it must hurt, and she was obviously getting cold.  I was still afraid to move her, but then one of the times she lifted her head, I took my fake leather and fake fur hat off and pushed it under her face.  She just rested on it then as we waited.  A crowd gathered but it was the two women and myself that were talking to her.  It was snowing hard, so I had my head and body over her shielding her from the snow fall.  I held her hand the entire time as we waited.

Eventually an ambulance came and I helped as we got her on a stretcher moving her as little as possible.  Just before they took her, she grasped my hat and pushed it in my direction returning it.  It was very touching she wanted to give it back, thinking of me at that time, as I would have gladly let her keep it.

I think of her once in a while wondering how much she recovered.  It was awful seeing her legs bent the way they were.  I still have the hat; it still has a few tiny flecks staining it of her blood. I never even saw her face, nor she mine.
