Woke up not feeling well this morning.  I was cold and queasy.  I slept all day and have the runs.  Trying to get ready for tonight's play party.  I still have to vacuum.

My son had to visit his mom for Thanksgiving (visitation order).  She was her usual self, yelling and screaming at everyone in the house.  He begged and pleaded with me to come get him, so I made a 180 mile round trip in the dark last night to retrieve him.  Good to have everyone at the breakfast table this morning.

Sounds like someone needs counseling.  Can son see the judge about this?

Sounds like someone needs counseling.  Can son see the judge about this?

Every time he visits, he swears it will be his last, and he asks me to file a motion to modify (no overnight visits).  Every Monday after (today), he says “It would be more trouble than it is worth, and I don’t want to put you through that.”  This has been a recurring pattern for at least three years.  The trouble now is that she lives with boyfriend and a new baby, and they don’t even have a bed for him to sleep on.  They fight constantly, while he sleeps on the sofa, and waits in line for the bathroom.

I’m kind of getting my usual holiday “grinch” on.  There’s just too much fucking “Look at me! I made cookies!” on social media, the television is full of consumerism and false holiday expectations.  Of course, work is a bitch, and the family is putting me through hell, but otherwise it’s a typical Tuesday.

I work as a security guard at a plastics manufacturing plant. We make the little white pellets that are used to make what ever final product you can think of. And, we make it out of highly volatile stuff - ethylene, propylene, vinyl acetate, etc. Our site isn't big and we are currently undergoing a maintenance shut down on one of the production units. So, I've got about 50 extra people on site. And because we are not a physically huge site, every body gets from place to place on foot. The speed limit for vehicles is 15 km/h (about 10 mph).

Anyways, two semi trailer trucks pull up to the gate to make a pick up. The first driver comes into my office and registers as he is supposed to. I inform him of the speed limit and give him directions to where he is going. After the first guy goes through the gate, I start to close it and the second guy just come screaming through. I manage to stop the gate from closing before it got ripped off its mount. Then, the second driver continues to follow the first guy at a speed between 30 and 50 km/h (I have to estimate because I don't have a radar gun).

I got the driver sent back to the security office where I tore him 4 new assholes. He was so focussed on following the first truck that he says he didn't see the stop sign nor the speed limit or no cell phones allowed signs. His claim was that it was his first day on the job and was nervous and eager to do a good job. The truth of the matter is that this was his first time at our site (I learned this from the shipper who loaded his truck). Our company has launched an investigation and have asked the driver's employer to inform us of what corrective/disciplinary actions they will be taking.

I take the safety of the guys who work on my site very seriously. I mentioned to somebody who saw the incident that I tore the guy 4 new assholes and he said he only saw one asshole -- about 5'6" tall.

I relate this story because of the Tuesday mention in the previous post. For me, the worst day of the week is never Monday like it is for so many people. No, IF a day of the week is going to go to shit, it will be Tuesday. And yesterday was Tuesday.

That is all.

I have represented the victims of injury accidents, and their families, for over 30 years.  I will tell you that NO ONE goes to work thinking "this will be the day I kill someone."  Everyone has good intentions, but people get complacent, get hurried, get distracted, and then all it takes is a nanosecond for hell to come visit.

You did the right thing JBRG, and the truth is that safety is EVERYONE's responsibility.  I can't tell you how many times an investigation undercovers prior suspicions or complaints about someone that resulted in NO ACTION being taken.  And the end result is, tragically, a catastrophic injury or death.  THEN everyone gets serious about remedial training and safety toolbox meetings.  Why not before?

My neighbor of 18 years who had helped me so many times more than I ever helped him passed away the day after Thanksgiving.  One of his sons came over and told me on Sunday after I had returned from being away.

I went to the funeral today.  By my estimate, there were somewhere between 300 to 400 people there.  I had never been to any funeral where so many people showed up.  By the testimonies of those who spoke, he was a far more remarkable man than I had ever dreamed.  In all those 18 years of living next to him, I suddenly realized I didn't know him at all, and I find that very sad and regrettable.

He and his wife had 7 children I watched grow up.  I confess I had trouble keeping track of which kid was which and never really got their names straight.  All of them spoke one after the other at the funeral.  They made fun of the fact there are 7 of them, announcing things like 'I'm number 6.'  Yesterday I nearly made the same sort of joke when I went next door to find out the funeral location.  One son came out to speak to me.  He told me his name and said, 'I'm the middle one.'  I nearly replied, 'There are 7 of you.  Most of you are middle ones.'

In a strange sad coincidence, I found out his birth year was the same as my wife's, so they both were born and passed away the same year.

I had left my parents at the main doors of a building yesterday and was walking to get my car from the parking garage.   I had my phone and some of my moms bags in one hand and some papers in a folder in the other.   Then I thought, "Where's my parking stub."   I switched the papers to the other hand so I could search my pockets, and in the process of doing so I dropped my phone.   It landed on the corner and the whole screen spiderwebbed.   I was so mad I yelled the F word really loud and it just seemed to echo in the parking garage.
When I pulled up to pay, the parking attendant just opened the gate and waved me through, I didn't even need to pay.  So, I really didn't need the stupid ticket.  UGH   I'm so sad.

Hugs.  My son made me take him to AT&T last night to buy a new phone.  I knew it would take two hours, but he called me back into the building because they wouldn’t take his paycheck credit card, so he put $400 on my card for a new iPhone 8 Plus, and now I have to get him to pay me somehow.

I periodically get sick as fuck with social media, and this is one of those weeks.  It’s like going to your neighbor’s house when his sink is full of dirty dishes, and there’s crap everywhere.  I mean, even the pet photos are pissing me off. It’s really the inanity of life.  There were 3 billion people on the planet when I was born, and things were pretty bad.  7.6 Billion today, all clamoring for food, shelter, and clothing.  Then once they get it, fighting religious wars, political wars, and posting photos of their cauliflower rice on Facebook.  I just want to poke my eyes out and go live an ascetic life.  End of rant.

This is my social media, well here and two other sites.  When I get asked about ‘friending’ me on FB, I smile and happily tell them I’m not on FB.

And what’s up with cauliflower rice these days?  Cauliflower in general has become the latest food craze, and it’s almost as annoying as that purple potato craze a few years ago or the cupcake craze before that.  At least I can like my kale and my quinoa again without being labeled as someone just eating it because it’s trendy (ate both long before anyone heard of quinoa).

This is my social media.

Mine also.  The comment was a warning, if I seem like a bigger asshole than usual.

I tire of the shiny happy people on FB.  Everything is vacation of a lifetime, joyful family reunions, and look!  Handmade crafts I put together for the holidays!!!

Bullocks.  They forget I have known many of them for 40 years or longer.  The divorces, the trips to rehab, the mental breakdowns.  Nobody posts about that shit on FB.  LOL.

I got sick of it 6 years ago and never went back.  Part of the reason is as you described..."look at me, look at my wonderful kids, they're so wonderful, I'm so blessed."    BS, your kid just was arrested on DUI at the age of 17 after putting his car up the rear end of a garbage truck when he was supposed to be in school.
I was at a bad time in my life when I quit the facebook site and don't miss it.   I log into my sisters account occasionally to peek around.  The posts to her page she would hate, all her friends are VERY religious.  She made me promise not to remove her page though.   She took to calling it Faithbook.

I'm on twitter only to follow people and news.  I've never twittered once.

Yuck!  I don't know how anyone can eat that stuff.  The smell of steaming cauliflower makes me gag.  Kale is bitter and nasty, even with lots of strongly acidic salad dressing.  I have yet to find a way of making quinoa edible other than drowning it in butter, and that isn't exactly healthy.

I do a cauliflower dish with panko and cheese that my kids love.  I just don’t care for the trendy cauliflower fad that is in high gear right now.

I heard about the cauliflower hype in this thread... I don't get it.  What's so bloody new about cauliflower? As a kid, my granny used to serve me that stuff atleast once a week when in season (and fuck cauliflower rice, mine was drowned in cheese sauce and served with bratwurst and mashed potatoes  :emot_thdrool: ).
I like quinoa just because it's something different to eat.  Unfortunately, given the fact that it's such a hype food, it's also like 5 or 6 times more expensive than rice.  And I don't like it that much.
I didn't even know kale was a hype food.  Where did that come from?  To the best of my knowledge people here been eating kale since we learned about farming.  Quite yummie though... cut up and mashed together with potatoes and served with a few thick slices of bacon or (the dutch way) smoked sausage.  And of course a good tablespoon of dijon mustard on the side.

I only know about this trend from an article I read recently.  I have not seen cauliflower presented in a restaurant in any way since, certainly not in an unusual way.  I like cauliflower, and my main interest in the article was not what trendy things were being done with it, but that cauliflower was getting expensive.

I think I heard something about it being sliced thick and as some sort of burger substitute.

Damn, I love talking about food, but this seems like we're in the wrong thread for that.

A dream about cats.  They were everywhere in the house and I was suffering an allergic reaction.  Basically dying to vacuum and clean the house.

Mountain cedar (juniper) pollen count starting to rise.  It will be Cedar Fever season by Christmas.
