I’m also really bummed out about Halloween. We’ve talked about it, and the idea of giving candy to small children in groups during a pandemic doesn’t sound smart. So we’re just gonna turn the lights out, and pretend we’re Donald Trump in the bunker. We used to have so much fun on Halloween. It was one of my kids favorite days of the year. Mine too.

I miss the parties.  Never did the candy thing and never really cared too.  I'll go to costco and get two boxes of full size candy bars and put them in little dollar store pumpkin pales, and split them up evenly between my cousin's kids.

We decided to have candy on hand just in case some little monsters are out. I'll answer the door masked and hand out the candy with a long gripper for old people to pick up things.

I don't know what we'll do if there's a bunch of candy left over.

 Dah...I know! We'll just have to eat it ourselves.

This year, we put candy in individual plastic bags and placed the bags in a large cardboard box. We then placed the box on the front porch with a sign saying Happy Halloween and to please take one bag per trick or treater. So far, it is working nicely.

I went clubbing (meaning I went to Sams Club) and bought 4 boxes of big candy bars.  Each box had 36 bars in it.   Sadly, we only had 34 trick-or-treaters.  :(   We usually have about 100 kids.   I will be returning 3 boxes of candy to the store.

Looks like folks in our neighborhood played it safe. We only went to the door three times. Two kids who's Basset Hound I used to walk. There were three girls from our block and a group of five I didn't recognize.

We didn't buy that much candy this year, but will still have our work cut out for us getting rid of it. We'll just have to loosen our belts and get to work. :D

Smashed pumpkins everywhere.  Neighbors across the street sat in their driveways and had their candy sitting out near the sidewalk so the kids could come by and just take and kep.going.  for their kindness and effort their yard is riddled with destroyed pumpkins.

Also because of cloud cover I missed the super rare blue moon last night... on friggin Halloween.  F@#$ you clouds

We had about 70 costumed and masked trick or treaters.

And I did see the blue moon. Was shining brilliantly.

Saw blue moon as it was just rising over the trees as I was passing out candy. Then this morning when I got up, it was shining in my bedroom window. Lovely!

We just put a sign on the door and turned out the lights.  I can see the street from our bedroom upstairs.  There were maybe 14 or 15 kids out.  In three groups.  By 8 pm it was all over. The moon was beautiful.

Mere hours ago, I was laid off after seven months of working for a tiny startup who had deperately wanted me to leave my comfortable huge conglomerate job and move across the country to work for them. Just to explain why I'm not an idiot, I'd like to note I'd made a ton of money co-founding and selling a company with one of these guys back in the 20th century. I moved here and bought a house, too, ouch. However, all may not be lost. My pals at the aforementioned huge conglomerate want to hire me back, and more interesting work, too. Probably 80% chance of that happening. C'mon 80%...

I have done that several times in my career, and it SUCKS!  Because, with the benefit of hindsight there were plenty of warning signs... but I’m one of those overly confident individuals who think the rules don’t apply to me, and I can make my own fortune where others have failed.  So now I’m two years on my own.  Living pretty much month to month, but there’s only so many second chances guys like us get, and I’ve run through them all.  LOL.

So C’mon 80%!!!  I’m pulling for you.  Never let them see you sweat.  The best revenge is living well.

Just that your old company is keen on taking you back is a big plus. That 80% is looking good.

Thanks, watcher. It shows how important it is to not burn any bridges one doesn't have to. I still wish them well, the guys who laid me off. These Covid times are hard fucking times for everybody.

Still, I'm terrified at the moment. Not for myself, because if it comes down to it, I can live under a bridge, which it would never even come to that. It's the autistic son and bipolar daughter I'm supporting. It's Mrs. Sweetums and the medium-sized dog. Seeing how the safety net is doing in the US at the moment, a lot of people depend on me, and I'm really too old at this point to be considered a reliable source of income. This was supposed to have been the job I retired on. Scary as fuck.

Smashed pumpkins mystery solved.

All we have are squirrels getting fat by boring holes into pumpkins and eating the seeds. Fun video!

Many downtown businesses have boarded up their windows and other businesses have hired extra security, in case of rioting over the election.

I've always been so proud of our country's peaceful transition of power. That one adminstration could change this in just  four years ruins more than just my day.

I completely concur, slave. And although I thought we were all better than this (and I didn't think much of the American electorate after they elected W twice!), ultimately it's better to know where we stand than not know, I figure.

We desperately need civics taught in High School again, and add to that serious critical thinking skills in this day and age. People are bombarded with very sophisticated propaganda all the time these days, and even the dumbest, easiest-to-debunk stuff seems to get good traction. If our democracy is ever to approach being for all the people, we need people to be educated enough to not vote against their own self-interest.

In this hopeful future of mine, I don't expect everybody to agree with me; in fact I hope they don't, because if we're all voting in our own best interests, our diverse life experiences will make this country stronger.
