Study the video and memorize, recite it on Monday:

Or... use your Caligrahy pens and copy the following exactly:

Part of "World Geography" homework. Makes sense, no problemo..

Haha, I'm guessing that neither you nor the designer of that embroidery studied any sort of religion except the Americanised version of the New Testament, otherwise it wouldn't sign off with the Germanic Neopagan symbol for the Triple Goddess!

(It always upsets christians to find that the idea of a "trinity", or three-in-one god was lifted from pre-existing religions. [triune/trinitarian god/goddess])

No, it doesn't upset ALL Christian because not all all Christians believe in the Trinity. It's not a Biblical teaching from the original scriptural texts in Hebrew and Greek.

Any Christian who makes an effort to study her faith in more detail knows that Christianity is syncretic, and knows that her religion was influenced by several predecessor movements, religious and secular, most notably Judaism.

So any Christian who is upset to learn this is, frankly, either ignorant or lazy.

And the piece in the OP is a total put-up, akin to trolling...

Many Christians were original part of the Judaism religion until they started following Christ. The Old Testament prophecied he would do away with the Mosaic Law, but the Religious leaders when Christ was on the earth wanted none of that, they liked things the way they were so they weren't willing to accept him as the Messiah. Their loss.

“There is no God but Allah. Mohammed is the messenger of Allah.”

An entire school district in Virginia is closed Friday, after the backlash against an assignment which forced students to write the shahada, the Muslim oath that declares “There is no God but Allah. Mohammed is the messenger of Allah.” This as part of a World Geography class homework assignment...

True that the Bible doesn't use the term "trinity" but if one does study the Bible, especially in the New Testament you will find some obvious referrals to the existence of "a Trinity".  Here are two instances:

Most notable is the command of how to baptize someone (Mt 28:19) and the original Greek use of "name" is singular.  If it is singular then how can anyone otherwise interpret the 3 names as less than belonging to one person (God)?  Not a Greek scholar but I do read the writings of those with that training.

Matt. 3:16-17 describes the descent of the Holy Spirit onto Jesus as he was being baptized.  The voice of God was heard at the same moment so that shows "3".  And I can't adequately describe the process of 3 in 1 other than saying each of us holds different roles in our lives and that is as close as I can to giving an example of 3 in 1 (for example I am the son of....the husband of....the father of.....).

As for any religion being a meld of others, so what?  Truly what does it matter in the scheme of things?  If I choose to commune with my God and feel that communion is doing something positive in my life then who is to criticize me?  On what basis?   Now as for the issue of those with the quoting of some other religions, that is what one can expect to see if the school system decides to go off onto something without getting parents involved.  I believe, strongly, in the role of parents in the education of their children.  When that child grows and enters the world (figurative term) then what the world decides to show the child will be compared to what they learned as a child, either for better or worse.  The way it has always been and the way it will always be regardless of the rantings of a vocal group.

World Geography as a high school subject includes the fossil evidence of human evolution, the rise of human civilizations, and regional anthropology.  Religion plays a big part in early human cultures and is therefore usually included in the course.  However, learning about other religions does not mean teaching the religion.  Was the line crossed here?  Or is this the usual Joan hysteria gleaned from slanted sources?

So, people are allowed to say what they want in 1408, except when it offends the sensibilities of certain members?

(I'm half expecting certain members' real names to be Napoleon or Snowball...)

No, they can say what they want. They may not expect to be agreed with, they most certainly can expect others to disagree with varying responses. Joan has been irritating people with a peculiar brand of political myopia that borders upon trolling at times, almost as if she is wanting to rile people up with outlandish posts.

As to the ability of people to post what they believe, as long as it doesn't contravene the site rules you are free to air whatever misconceptions, hate, or truth that you wish.

There are three kinds of people in the world. Those who can count, and those who can't.

Perhaps I'm misreading what you wrote, but I'm not sure why you think my sensibilities were offended (they weren't, not even slightly) or why you took my simple statement of personal opinion as denying someone the right "to say what they want in 1408" (I wasn't, not even slightly).

And, Orwell notwithstanding, my real name is, in fact, Barbara.

MissB, I owe you an apology - I assumed that, because you quoted me, you were accusing me of trolling.

I hereby withdraw my grumpy statement, do with me as you will...

No problem, it's an honest mistake. And I was imprecise in my response, so I can understand your reaction.

I quoted you -- and agreed with you -- about Christianity borrowing heavily from previous religions, philosophies, and movements.

My trolling/put-up comment referred to the OP.

And with the beautiful snowflakes gently falling on my laptop screen, it's impossible for me to be grumpy today.

Me, I love snow.

I used to drive a classic Mini.  As a December child, I learned to drive in snow and ice, taught by an ex rally-driver.  I could get through weather conditions that made police SUV drivers nervous.  OK, sometimes I took risks, but that's how I learned that a Mini with no rust patches will float for long enough to allow simple inertia to get you the other end of a flooded section of road...

Unfortunately, we haven't had a proper snowfall here for at least five years.
