Just got this from the Environmental Working Group:
URGENT: Senate Vote Happening NEXT WEEK!The Senate may vote on chemical industry hack’s EPA confirmation next week.
Dear Friend,
We weren’t sure it could get any worse than Scott Pruitt, but it has.
Michael Dourson, President Trump’s nominee to lead the Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention at the Environmental Protection Agency, is a chemical industry hack, and has spent his career advocating against strong standards on pesticides and toxic chemicals in consumer products.
His consulting firm has been paid by chemical industry giants like Monsanto and Dow AgroSciences to produce junk science downplaying the serious harm chemicals like chlorpyrifos and 1,4-dioxane can wreak on the human body and the environment.
It’s time to put a stop to Trump’s anti-science, pro-chemical-industry nominee. We need the Senate to reject Dourson’s nomination. Can we count on you to help us?
Click here to tell your senators to vote NO on Michael Dourson’s nomination to lead the Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention at the EPA. He is a chemical industry hack, and cannot be trusted to protect Americans and the environment from hazardous chemicals!
http://action.ewg.org/p/dia/action4/common/public/?action_KEY=2360&tag=201710Dourson&track=ACTION_DoursonC4At his consulting firm, Toxicology Excellence for Risk Assessment, or TERA, Dourson produced industry-funded studies on a huge range of chemicals, consistently coming up with results that drastically downplayed health risks and advocated for weaker safety standards. Here are just a few examples:
Dourson has helped DuPont avoid liability damages for PFOA, a dangerous chemical used in Teflon that is linked to cancer and thyroid disease.
In a study funded by Dow AgroSciences, Dourson argued it would be safe for children ages 1 to 2 to consume the toxic pesticide chlorpyrifos at levels more than 5,000 times higher than the limit proposed by the EPA in 2016.
Dourson worked with the American Chemistry Council, a chemical industry front group, to fight against efforts to ban toxic flame retardant chemicals. These chemicals have been linked to cancer, reduced IQ, infertility and learning disorders.
We need to take action now, before it’s too late – the Senate could vote on Dourson’s confirmation NEXT WEEK. Your senators need to hear from you right now if they’re going to make the right choice and vote NO on Dourson’s confirmation.
Take one minute right now and let your senators know how you feel. Urge them to vote NO on Dourson’s confirmation. We need the EPA to fight to protect Americans’ health, not chemical industry profits!
