On the one hand, NPR's reputation as a bastion of liberalism is wholly unearned.

I agree with you.

I was only half joking when I pointed out that intelligent thought and liberal bias are easily confused.

There's a reason people say loony liberals.

My phone even suggest liberal tears rioters and loony as soon as I type liberal.  :emot_laughing:

I agree that there is loony liberals, just as there are loony conservatives. And I'd suspect there are equal numbers on both sides of the political divide.

As I've mentioned, I live in a liberal city and work at a very liberal institution. And I must have the strongest ocular muscles in the world, as a result of rolling my eyes so much at loony liberal antics.

But have you ever listened to NPR with any regularity? I'd suspect not, because if you have, you'd never accuse it of being "liberal," and you'd certainly never accuse it of being loony. Most notably in their election coverage, and coverage of Trumps presidency to date. Their coverage is easily the most balanced you'll find anywhere in the U.S. And while FOX disingenuously proclaims, "We Report, You Decide," that is chiefly what NPR does. In fact, most of the negative aspects of Hillary Clinton and her campaign I gleaned not from right-wing sources, but from NPR.

Last time I listened to NPR they were interviewing an Indian American woman who was talking about how it's not white peoples responsibility to take in millions and millions of Muslim migrants when their own people won't take them in and should. They would not let her get a word in by constantly interrupting her and all but accused her of being Islamophobic.

Trump and Staff Rethink Tactics After Stumbles

Quote
But for the moment, Mr. Bannon remains the president’s dominant adviser, despite Mr. Trump’s anger that he was not fully briefed on details of the executive order he signed giving his chief strategist a seat on the National Security Council, a greater source of frustration to the president than the fallout from the travel ban.

A lot of our perspective on the slant we perceive in news is going to depend on what we're used to. If you are used to a steady diet of Fox News, and similar reporting from far right news sources, I think NPR would sound quite leftist.

NPR isn't perfectly unbiased (it's not possible to be without bias), but they are very strong on their journalistic standards, which is the best that can be hoped for. It's good to remember that there is NO center from which to speak, except as an abstract concept.

Can you name a news organization, ChirpingGirl, which is less biased than NPR? Seriously, name it if you think it exists, and I'll consider it honestly and with an open mind.

I wouldn't trust corporate media to tell the truth if an alien invasion was going on.

chirping girl, where then do you  get your information? Brietbart?

Facebook?

You are now putting yourself into the sheeple category.

She's right, ChirpingGirl. You reject NPR for bias, but you duck the twin questions of 'where do you get your news' and 'what organization is less biased'.

In doing so, you blow holes in your arguments the size of Cleveland.

Chirping Girl has a problem in any debate. She refuses to do anything but "me too", memes, and opinion based on fuzzy thinking at best and pure bs at worst.

Well, sure. She backed herself into a corner from which she can't escape.

NPR is the most biased site in the universe; except for all of the others. Which hits on my point exactly. You can only legitimately talk about bias, and centralism, and fairness as relative concepts, comparing organizations to each other. NPR is clearly less biased than Fox, for example.

But all news sites (and indeed, all human enterprises) fall short when held up against a standard of theoretical perfection.

It doesn't matter if ChirpingGirl acknowledges that she has lost the argument or not; her silence is admission enough. And if she sends me rainbows, then I know I really scored big!

There was no argument, rainbow. Like always you can't figure out anything or pay any attention. You just go bright and colorful and start spewing rain all over everything.

You so smart, rainbow.  :D

There are some very funny twitter responses to this story at the end of the article (including reports that this was the best attended political rally in the history of mankind).

World’s Saddest Trump Rally Draws Just 8 Supporters

"...A rally in support of President Donald Trump and his immigration ban in Portland, Maine, on Saturday is drawing attention on social media for all the wrong reasons: only a handful of people showed up, according to footage from local CBS station WGME..."

He's upset no one covered the "Bowling Green Massacre".  He does not realize IT NEVER HAPPENED!

At the same time Trump made no comment regarding the white nationalist that killed five people at a mosque, or the the right-wing nut-jobs that planned to make a "death ray" and use it to kill people in mosques.
