The Pentagon proposed budget, and the items proposed as necessary, as well as those designated as desired but less necessary, is as much a game of 'chicken' as is any proposal by any Administration. The varied interests of the 535 in the House and Senate will be expressed, and the horse trading done, some quietly, some not so quietly, to iron out the finished product, very different than the details proposed in many cases... an exercise in herding cats, allowing trades and ego satisfaction, that will result in a winning Vote among all involved on the political side of the table.

Somewhere there are Democrat supporters of 'Stars & Stripes', making themselves known in September, when the budget has been in Congress hands since February, essentially, and we shall see, who has a vote here, or a vote there to support one or another element, or set of elements, that satisfies enough of the opponents, and enough of the supposed supporters, along with taking credit for "saving" this or that weapon system, and this or that Naval Air Station, etc, and indeed someone will trade a vote, and take the credit for the 'Stars & Stripes' save.

Meanwhile, unless all needed parties agree pretty damn soon, to a Continuing Resolution, which will continue all items in the current budget, fully funded until the CR runs out, it all comes to a screeching halt on September 30, 2020.

26 days from today... let the lobbying begin to be seen in public...

A megadonor for Democrats, lots of them this cycle, and especially for Biden, is behind the Atlantic Story, dropped in all its bald faced glory, at a time when leftists can tell the lying tale loud and proud, not for just a day, but for the whole Holiday weekend, and likely all the Sunday shows, before it quietly goes away when anyone interviews, or even telephones, honest folks who were actually there, John Bolton for instance, and only the hard partisans and their aged mothers will still believe it.

Dems do this sort of smear exceptionally well, usually rolled into a SocialSecurity and Medicare, and Medicaid are going to be taken away, and you will all be eating cat food, if you are foolish enough to vote for Trump, story...

Other Democrat leftist media is piling on, just amazing how it all ties together so neatly with a big bow, with one of another story about how some sacred cow has been called a "loser" by Trump, along with taking away all the benefits and Rx's payments, and don't forget the Post Office delivery of Veterans Drugs... etc...

60 odd days to November 3, then who knows what Democrat Leftists have as the plan to not be able to do the final vote count until SCOTUS at least has a say... and I would not be surprised to see disruptive mobs at physical Voting Locations, just as icing on the Marxist Cake the Biden Supporters have been plotting since 2015... or before...

Strap yourselves in, and hang on... or as Biden's buddy in Kenosha might say,
"... slap me upside the head, and call me a woman... "  and "... Some like Brocolli... "

Warms JoE's heart to find someone prone to unwelcome gaffs, or are they really gaffs? George Floyd would be so proud... Maybe he already mailed his ballot...

Why is it Joan, that the Atlantic story is so belivable?  Maybe it's because he's done nothing about Russia's bounties on American soldier in Afganistan?  And why does Trump continually act like a Russian asset?

Trump making fun of McCain was bad enough but to make fun of American soldiers who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country, he has stooped to a new low. Which is about as low as a snake's stomach. Did he forget he is also the Commander-in-Chief of all the United States troops?

Rick, your reaction is exactly what those who published, with anonymous quotes about the details in this story, and what those collaborators with and from the Biden Campaign, and generally Democrat Activists, along with Never Trump RINOs, are hoping for, banking upon.

Every person who was there, on the scene, and willing to speak On The Record, has said the details regarding Trump's statements and beliefs are lies, NOT TRUE, including some who are not Trump Fans, such as John Bolton, who wrote about the very day and details the weather, the plans and so forth for Cemetery visiting, TWO YEARS AGO, and his documentation is very different than the Atlantic Story.

The coordination, and rapid response by like minded Democrat supporters, how quick they all pounce together, is striking, and impressive, and fitting for election year "crisis" slander in years past, by both major Parties, and especially Democrats.

There is plenty to critique about our President, his bold, stupid at times, comments, and that reality allows people who read the slander of the Atlantic Story to accept it as 'possible' or 'likely to have happened', if they go no further than the face value of the 'story', and the obvious MSM push to keep this as THE defining character story, at less than 60 days from November 3, 2020.

The Associated Press, The Washington Post, The Atlantic, and the National Security Correspondent for Fox News all independently confirmed the story.

Pollak: The Atlantic Hit Piece Is a
Hint of Democrats’ Orwellian Future

The Atlantic hit piece on President Donald Trump last week used four anonymous sources to allege that he had disparaged dead World War I soldiers two years ago. Fox News reporter Jennifer Griffin then claimed to have “confirmed” parts of the story — though not its main allegation — based on two anonymous sources.

The entire story failed to meet basic journalistic standards. But it is a sign of things to come — particularly if Democrats win in November, which is the Atlantic‘s goal.

Two, or even four, anonymous sources can be used to claim absolutely anything. The Atlantic described them as “four people with firsthand knowledge of the discussion that day.”

Notably, we are not told that they personally heard Trump say what the Atlantic alleges he said — they just have “knowledge of the discussion.” Someone who has “knowledge” of a discussion is a second-hand source, or worse. The point is there is no way to know if the sources are credible, or if the story is just made up.

It turns out that we do actually have some very good historical sources that dispute the Atlantic story. These include the 11 eyewitnesses who have gone on the record to deny the president said what the Atlantic alleged, but they also include other sources.

The Atlantic‘s claim, for example, that the president avoided a trip to a military cemetery because he did not want his hair to get wet is refuted by government documents and even by the unfriendly memoir of former aide John Bolton.

And yet much of the media ran with the story anyway — unchastened by the recent history of other “confirmed” stories, like the Russia “dossier.”

In 2018, NBC falsely reported that President Donald Trump had become the first president since 2002 not to visit the troops at Christmas. It then turned out Trump was in Iraq with the troops.

In that spirit, NBC’s White House correspondent, Peter Alexander, asked the president on Friday — in the Oval Office — to “apologize” to soldiers and veterans.

Alexander reported on MSNBC shortly thereafter that whether the story is true or not, it “resonates.” Former Vice President Joe Biden said much the same in his press conference that day, citing Trump’s joke at John McCain’s expense in 2015. (Few bothered to remember that McCain attacked Trump first — and Trump supporters — saying that Trump had “fired up the crazies” in the Republican Party.) There was no actual proof — just partisan prejudice, clearly based on political bias.

A report in the Wall Street Journal showed how it is simply impossible to report the Atlantic story without repeating the lie, thereby ingraining it further into the public imagination. “Trump Denies Report He Disparaged Military,” the headline read. The lede paragraph, reporting Trump’s denial, had to repeat the allegations.

The media “fact-checkers,” who meticulously document every inaccurate Trump statement (or politically incorrect opinion), were somehow absent when a real lie arrived.

In 1942, George Orwell wrote:

Early in life I have noticed that no event is ever correctly reported in a newspaper, but in Spain, for the first time, I saw newspaper reports which did not bear any relation to the facts, not even the relationship which is implied in an ordinary lie. I saw great battles reported where there had been no fighting, and complete silence where hundreds of men had been killed. I saw troops who had fought bravely denounced as cowards and traitors, and others who had never seen a shot fired hailed as the heroes of imaginary victories; and I saw newspapers in London retailing these lies and eager intellectuals building emotional superstructures over events that had never happened. I saw, in fact, history being written not in terms of what happened but of what ought to have happened according to various ‘party lines’.

Orwell would later develop this insight in his novel 1984, where the ruling party rewrote history as needed for its interests. “Who controls the past controls the future,” he wrote.

Orwell’s warning is particularly relevant as America confronts a wave of fake news, and an assault on history — not just statues and symbols, but on the teaching of history itself.

The New York Times, supposedly the “paper of record,” won the Pulitzer Prize for journalism this year for the lead essay in the “1619 Project,” even though it had to be corrected after historians said its central contention — that slavery motivated the American Revolution — was wrong.

The 1619 Project is being used to develop school curricula, and has given its name to the ongoing “racial justice” riots. The people who will teach the history of this period have already classified these conflagrations as “mostly peaceful” protests.

“In the last analysis our only claim to victory is that if we win the war we shall tell less lies about it than our adversaries,” Orwell wrote in 1944.

We may expect an Orwellian future if the Atlantic‘s tactics deliver victory to the left in November.

I was reading in the paper this morning about some of the boats sinking in Trump's parade of boats that took place yesterday in Austin and immediately thought Toe was involved somehow.  ;D ;D

The boats were overloaded, and piloted by amateurs who did not observe safe distancing and the rules of the road.  Gee, sounds like something else we’ve seen this year.

On top of that, there were numerous “freedom parties,” during which captains exercised their God given right to get shitfaced before operating a motor boat.  Once on the water, they encountered a lot of roiling wakes, and numerous boats were swamped.  Glad no one was injured, but what the hell did they expect?

Amazing.  The military has long been a Republican stronghold, but now even the military is expected to vote Biden.

As for Joan, she is such an obvious troll she makes Trumplook that much worse.  If she is the best "voice of the glory of Trump", we've got nothing to worry about.

Postmaster General DeJoy reportedly pressured workers at his former company to donate to GOP candidates

Quote
Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, a major donor to President Donald Trump and a fundraiser for the Republican Party, cultivated an environment at his former company that left employees feeling pressured to make donations to Republican candidates, and rewarded them with bonuses for doing so, according to former employees.

The arrangement, first reported by The Washington Post, was described by three former employees at New Breed Logistics, DeJoy’s former company, who said workers would receive bonuses if they donated to candidates he supported, and that it was expected that managers would participate. A fourth employee confirmed that managers at the company were routinely solicited to make donations. The four former employees spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of professional retaliation.

The former employees did not say how explicit DeJoy was about the link between the campaign contributions he was encouraging and the extra compensation, but three of them said it was widely believed that the bonuses were meant to reimburse the political donations. Federal campaign finance laws bar straw-donor schemes, in which an individual reimburses someone else to donate to a political campaign in order to skirt contribution limits. But it is legal to encourage employees to make donations, as DeJoy routinely did.

A review of campaign finance records shows that more than a dozen management-level employees at New Breed would routinely donate to the same candidate on the same day, often writing checks for an identical amount of money. One day in October 2014, for example, 20 midlevel and senior officials at the company donated a total of $37,600 to the campaign of Sen. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., who was running to unseat a Democratic incumbent. Each official wrote a check for either $2,600, the maximum allowable donation, or $1,000.

Similar patterns stretch back to 2003, campaign finance records show, with contributions to President George W. Bush’s reelection campaign. DeJoy’s wife, Dr. Aldona Wos, was the vice chairwoman of Bush’s North Carolina fundraising team, and Bush later appointed her to serve as the ambassador to Estonia. DeJoy, a Republican megadonor, served as the chief executive of New Breed from 1983 to 2014, until the company was sold to XPO Logistics.

A spokesman for DeJoy did not immediately respond to a request for comment. But at a hearing last month, DeJoy angrily denied a suggestion by Rep. Jim Cooper, D-Tenn., that he had reimbursed his employees’ political donations.

“That’s an outrageous claim, sir, and I resent it,” DeJoy responded. “What are you accusing me of?”

It is unclear how the arrangement was communicated to employees or how extensive it was. One former New Breed employee said he donated to a Republican candidate and never received a bonus, prompting him to never again make another donation. Another employee, Dave Bell, a current vice president at XPO Logistics who started as a vice president at New Breed in 2010, said he had never heard of the arrangement and that “no one ever approached me” to make any political contributions.

Still, the revelations are likely to fuel further scrutiny of the embattled DeJoy, who has come under fire for his continuing financial ties to a company that does business with the Postal Service and his previous work fundraising for Republicans.

Josh Stein, North Carolina’s attorney general, said in a statement Sunday that “it is against the law to directly or indirectly reimburse someone for a political contribution” and that “any credible allegations of such actions merit investigation by the appropriate state and federal authorities.”
