I used to think the electoral college's time had passed, but then along came Trump.

Just toss the whole electoral college thing completely, right?

No need to have more Representatives for some States than for other States, right? Why bother with all the rigamarole of the Constitution, when we have Twitter now... we know what we want, right?

Just do it.

I think voting should be a requirement.  If voting is required, I don't think anyone should be required to vote for one of the offered candidates.  I also think that "none of the above" would act as a reality check for the political parties.

But I have no idea how that would work with regards to electoral votes.  It would probably have no impact at all, because electoral and popular votes are tallied separately in Presidential elections.

Save money and just have the general election where voters elect the president. The electoral college's time has passed and so have caucuses.  Hold elections on the weekend as many countries do.

Yeah, yeah. And everyone fled the country when we got George Bush just as they promised. Didn't happen. No one got hope and change with Obama either.

The Constitution, I believe, is way out of date when it comes to the Electoral College. Why do we need so many elections leading up to the presidential one?  Who would the fat cat contributors give to if there weren't any delegates to be chosen from each state.  Maybe then the people running for president would have to let us voters know what they will do if elected.

Well Ms. or Mr. Thaaang, (claiming to be a girl married to a girl, but not a "Lesbo") I don't know anyone who fled the country when George Bush was elected.  But I do know parents that lost their sons or daughters in two disastrous wars, and I know families that have lost their homes and jobs on his watch.

Hope and change would not have sounded so appealing if not for George W. Bush.  I certainly felt hope as did the rest of the world.  Obama even won the Nobel Peace prize, primarily for not being George W. Bush.  And we got change.  The economy turned around and I would not have health insurance today if not for President Obama.

I ran into this 'comment' earlier this evening, and copied it, as it seems to mirror my thoughts, and i suspect many others, regarding who to support in the 2016 US Presidential Election:

The op has only a loose grasp of what tyranny means, a looser grasp on the 2nd amendment. Gun restrictions that are onerous mostly come from local city and state legislation. Stupid wing nuts.

I heard a report on the news (yesterday? today?) that the NRA was going to be backing Trump.

Yet another reason I don't need an NRA membership.  The 2nd is working fine, thanks.  They've had SOOOO many weird stances in the last decade that I'm not sorry I let my membership lapse 15 years ago.  I got begging letters with proclamations of DOOM!! for 5 years afterwards, but they finally gave up on me.  Bye, NRA!

Wow, Trump and Clinton virtually even in the latest polls. And Bernie Sanders still in the race, much to Clinton's and the DNC's regret.  Shaping up to be one crazy year.

I agree Watcher.  The pollsters say a bump is not uncommon when someone, in this case Trump, clinches the nomination.

The polls also show that Bernie leads in voter preference by a significant margin in the event of a Trump v. Bernie match up.  But then again Bernie has not been subject to attacks.  If it were a Bernie v. Trump race I expect the polls would even out after red-baiting by the right-wing.

I agree -- polls, at this point, are almost entirely meaningless.

But I don't think red-baiting has an ounce of resonance. It's not the 1950s, and anyone who wouldn't vote for Bernie because he's a Commie would never have voted for a Democrat in the first place.

What will be interesting to see is how much of the "youth vote" Hillary will succeed in capturing. I don't think it will be much, for two reasons. First, the young people whom Sanders has energized are excited about him, and not the Democrats in general; and second, young people don't vote, at least not in any significant numbers. Their enthusiasm rarely translates into actual votes, as witnessed in the 2008 election.

Latest stats are saying that if Clinton clinches the nomination, one in five followers of Sanders would vote for Trump.  Another reason the Clinton camp may be having fits.

Of course, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, head of the DNC, has no love for Sanders because he has already said she will be replaced if he is elected plus Sanders is supporting her Democratic opposition candidate in her Florida district.

But then it seemed like only yesterday that Hillary Clinton and Debbie Wasserman Schultz couldn't explain the difference between a Democrat and a socialist. It wasn't that they didn't know.  They knew all right.

They still don't answer that question, and it is now more rarely asked...

and I believe the number is "at least 20%" of Sanders folks will go Trump!

no one knows, or will say, or answers the question honestly, about the 4 of 5 Sanders supporters who are also against Hillary...  Stay home? Whatever...

I just read that Trump is claiming that the Californian drought isn't real!

I have friends who live out there - Trump is deluded.

Yes, he's an idiot.  He has also all but said that he has to cut Social Security for seniors, but that he has to lie about not doing so in order to get elected.
