A perfect example is that country clerk in Kentucky. She tried to enforce religious-based law, and she failed miserably. She was tossed in jail and, were in not for her tenure of office, she would have been summarily fired. And if she tries to reject marriage licenses to same-sex couples again, she'll be tossed back in jail.

She failed. And though her supporters view her as something of a martyr for their cause, the whole case only served to further inspire rejection of her cause, and to rally support for the right of same-sex couples to wed, as guaranteed by the Supreme Court decision.

That's awesome!

It's funny though how things work.
We are now slowly getting to the worst time of year, at least for me.

Christmas.

I don't do Christmas.
I don't believe, so why would I want to celebrate Jesus's birthday?
(Not to mention that it's not even his birthday etc.etc.)

The strange thing is that around me everybody is celebrating.
A friend of mine, die-hard Atheist, celebrates Christmas hard-core.
He even goes to church on Christmas Eve????

I try to understand it, but I simply don't.

My vision would be;

Zappa: Dumb all over.

I hate Christmas. Everyone loves it but me. None of us are even Christians.

I hate it. Hate it. Hate it.

The only reason I wake up that day is to watch the bulls Christmas day game.

Hate is a strong emotion. It is best to let it go. Then maybe your posts would be more positive.

I can't help hating christmas. I love Halloween. Christmas is just a big pain to me. I'm the scrooge with the empty bank account at the end of it. I don't like one thing about it except that it ends. The kids love it so I guess that's why we do it but if it went away I wouldn't mind.

Bah humbug to christmas. Bah I say!

I didn't like it as a kid either.

OK, maybe I like when my wife bakes all kinds of goodies and treats, but that's it.

I'm agnostic and also dislike Christmas to a certain point. There was a time that I hated it but having kids gave a different meaning to the whole day. I now look at the day as more so a reason to get together with family and friends that I might not see enough and see even less once the weather gets cold around us. I enjoy this day with my boys and wife. I enjoy the smiles on their faces and the laugh filled house.

These days will soon pass as they grow older and out. The returns home will become less and less as their own lives take off and grow.

My dad past 4 years ago. I now remember my own Christmas mornings. I remember even more the phone calls to him because he lived so far away from us the last few years that we could not make it to see him. I miss them phone calls and the sound of his voice.

I'll take the day, the gift exchange and the travel to be able to enjoy the little joys the day brings, if just for another year.

Ok, I love seeing my kids happy. But, then again, it's not like I don't give them everything they need or earn over the course of the rest of the year anyway.

I guess I'll go against the flow.
I like Christmas but not for the commercial crap or the presents.
I like Christmas simply because it's when family (far and near) has a chance to get together for a day. It's a chance to make (promised) a visit to see friends that you don't normally ever see, Christmas is what you make of it (religion not necessary), It's a time for getting together with friends and family. If I had to say anything bad about Christmas it's all the cards in the mail and all the cards I send out.
But, I'll stick with Christmas and the Christmas dinner.
And another thing:  I Like The Cartoon "The Christmas Carol" with the voice of Jim Bacchus  as Scrooge.

Love,
Liz

Toe, it must be for your lover, cause it won't do you as much good as her.

There are three kinds of people in the world. Those who can count, and those who can't.

The local door-to-door God salesmen were out in my neighborhood this last Saturday.  They're easy to spot 'cos NOBODY else wears a suit on Saturday.  I'm not even vaguely Christian, so they always have a hard sell. These two were a push-over.  "Don't you wonder about the awe and majesty around you?" to which I replied "Yep, I like the universe just fine... it's my favorite place to be."   :D

"Don't you see the Hand of God in this act of creation?"

"Nope.  You believe that the Easter Bunny created the Universe because he was bored and wanted some play-toys.  I believe that the universe created itself, probably out of a supermassive white hole.  I simply cut out the imaginary middle-man."

"Well, you have yourself a good day!"  <exit, stage right before I confused 'em further>

Arizona now has a Young Earth Creationist in charge of state education legislation.  Sylvia Allen, the GOP state Senator from Snowflake, AZ, believes the Earth is 6,000 years old. She will run the state Senate's committee to oversee educational legislation.

http://www.12news.com/story/news/2015/12/21/arizona-legislator-who-believes-earth-6000-year-old-leads-education-committee/77715744/

She also believes in chemtrails, and wants mandatory church attendance.

Quote
"She understands what Arizona students and parents need in our education system," [Senate President] Biggs said in a prepared statement [when he announced the appointment]. "She is a very experienced legislator and I know she will do a wonderful job."

Allen said her goal is "to highlight the incredible teachers who are the reason for our children's success. I also want to focus on parents' responsibility in their children's education."

Yeah, but they have good cross-country skiing in the winter just south of there.  I've been through the Show Low area more times than I can count.  The White Mountains always has a decent base in winter, peaking at ~ 9000ft altitude around Hannagan Meadow.  In the summer when it's 126F in Phoenix, it's the best camping spot in the state.

You want crazy, go to Cornville.  It's up north of Camp Verde, somewhat near Sedona.

INCOMING!!!

Well "they" made a stab at raising me Roman Catholic. By age 12 i decided i really didn't want most parts of that. Not due to the faith but the hypocrites. Guess every religion got some of that lurking around, huh? I'm agnostic. My personality is neither follower nor leader in most anything. HOWEVER....if you really want to see some pretty firm evidence of a higher being, go spend some serious time in Yosemite National Forest. Lost count how many times I've visited. Always tried to bring a friend along that never experienced it. I have not one memory of anyone i took there not experiencing what was clearly a religious or enlightening time. For those that have been there, you know. Yes nature & geology created it, but theres really ALOT there all crammed together and its a BIG park. The chances that all just randomly came together in one place are rather slim. Ive never seen the entire place & been there at every opportunity i had to go. Just don't do stupid stuff like leaving any type of food in your car at all. You'll just hate what the bears leave as your ex car getting into it. They will get in, make no mistake.

Same one Sunday morning when they walked up to my open garage door.
When it was my turn to talk.
I said: "I believe. You believe. What you want to believe".
The leaders response was: "Touche".
Then turned around and walked away. ;D

The only point to the question under discussion is to stir up controversy. But most people, social animals that we are, will rise to any bait. I say Yes. I mean No. I mean I don't know. Anyway, I don't care. Can we go somewhere private? Just you and me? I bet we could help each other out.

Not at all. The only point under discussion is to have a discussion.

Read the OP, where the poster introduces the topic in a manner inviting discussion, offers his personal opinion, and explains how he arrived at that opinion. And the same spirit is manifested in many of the subsequent posts.

Many people come to this Board to participate in discussions, to offer -- and explain -- their personal opinions, and to read and try to understand what others believe, and why they believe it, and to learn from that.

Your assertion:

Anyway, I don't care....

...makes little sense in this context. If you don't care, then why are you reading this thread, and taking the time to post in it? It seems that you, and not many of the other posters here, are the one who is trying "to stir up controversy."

And you failed...
