OK, like any situation I recognize that the video is one small part of the big picture so I don't have all the facts and I have no policing experience but don't these guys get some training in de-escalation?

Facebook friends and family – PLEASE HELP! That (now viral) video of the officer in McKinney subduing a girl in a bathing suit was in OUR neighborhood. The situation was NOT what is being reported…

A DJ setup in a public space next to the private pool in our neighborhood on Friday and played loud explicit (F-bomb) music for multiple hours (it is unclear if he was invited by a resident as no one has claimed responsibility). The teenagers (both black and white) were being brought into our neighborhood by the carload because the DJ was tweeting out invites to a “pool party” for $15 (obviously unauthorized by our neighborhood). The teens began fighting with each other and pushing their way into our private pool. Some were jumping our fence. The security guard was accosted when he tried to stop the beginnings of this mob scene. Some residents who live around the park/pool area tried to come out and settle things down. The teens started yelling racial slurs at our neighbors and started assaulting people and property (throwing bottles at cars and attacking a mother at the pool with 3 young children). The first officer on the scene was by himself. At that time, the party had grown to a large, aggressive crowd. As the officer arrived, many teens started running through our neighborhood. Many of the teens were being very aggressive and yelling at the officers as more arrived.

This was a very dangerous situation for the officers AND the teens/residents not involved. The news media has refused to hear the neighborhood’s side of this story. The video being distributed is only a very small segment of what happened. This information being distributed by the media and others is extremely distorted and in some cases outright lies.

PLEASE HELP US STOP THE BROADCASTING OF THIS IGNORANCE. The media is trying to make it look like our neighborhood is a white’s only, racist area. Anyone who has spent even a few minutes in our area knows this is an outright LIE.

The unfortunate result is that our neighbors are now being threatened. We have also had cars and property in and around the park area vandalized this weekend. Unfortunately, the press and social media are trying to enflame the situation.

I am asking for your help for my family and my neighbor’s safety…PLEASE, PLEASE do not rebroadcast any of these lies.

I'm not sure why the girl was being held on the ground the way she was but if I was about to be rushed by a bunch of ticked teens I would do whatever it took to defend myself including drawing my sidearm to diffuse a situation.

The salient question is was he alone or in the company of others. The proximate question is why he felt the need to detain the girl. There is a report that she wasn't moving fast enough.

I would think that dispersing the crowd would have been the primary objective, not detaining someone. Unless they were a danger to officers, the general public, or themselves, none of which appeared to be the case.

The vid was on FOX and Kelly interviewed a black male neighbor who saw the whole thing. He said it wasn't about race because the neighborhood is made up of many races who live in harmony and are all friends. The cops were called because of a pool party that got out of hand, with 100+ teens mobbing a pool where the legal ordinance limit was 2 guests. The cop drew his weapon when two really big guys (a black and a white) who had been ordered to disperse, didn't comply and moved in close behind him as he was trying to control a teen aged black girl and he didn't know their intentions. They could have been armed. He kept his gun pointed down by his leg at all times and, after no more than three seconds or less, re-holstered it when the two big guys moved around where he could see them. I would have done the same thing. Watch the video carefully.

Of course Sharpton, Jackson, et al., will try to stir the pot in a financial shakedon. The cop acted appropriately and should not be disciplined, but we all know what will likely happen.

She might have been the instigator of the entire mess. She might not be fourteen. We didn't see what she did to the cop before he decided to put her down on the grass. Say she was throwing a bottle at him or something? If some teen is out of control, perhaps loaded on booze and throwing bottles at me, I'm taking them down too. Teenage girls aren't by default 'harmless damsels'. It would be pretty shitty if this cop was punished for taking down an out of control teen and all because the narrative people stick to an incomplete vid is that 'all teen girls are by default innocent and harmless'.

BUT, like everything else having to do with this incident, the brief video only tells a tiny part of a much bigger story. Yet, most people seem confident offering opinions based on the brief video.

Do you think that, perhaps, it wasn't "a snipet [sic] of video from an uppity White punk" that led to his resignation, but rather, the fact that he drew his weapon and threw a girl to the ground?

Do you have any data backing your claim that this officer was "was probably forced to resign" or "he was quietly fired"?

True, but that doesn't change the fact that this officer was out of control. Maybe he has mental health issues (check out that roll he does earlier in the video). If the situation had truly merited that behaviour then the other cops likely would have been acting the same way, yet at one point in the video, it almost looks like the other two cops were about to restrain him.

You are right that this only shows a snippet, but if I were him and the true story would have exonerated me then I would not likely have resigned. I suspect he watched the video, realized he probably wasn't going to win this one and saved everyone a lot of time and trouble.

The party was promoted on Twitter by a 22 year old black girl.  It went viral and over 100 people of all colors arrived at a lily white private pool.  Madness ensued.

The cops were caught unawares, and did not respond properly.  The officer should have been fired, or at least required to undergo additional training on crowd control.  He's running about, tripping over himself, shouting at people, and pulled his gun.  No excuse for this.  No.  Excuse.
