BTW, you don't use Control-C to copy an image location.  You right click and select from the menu.

To get back on topic, I think since a black police officer helped the white police officer cover up the evidence any civilian is justified in fearing for their lives when confronted by police. Pretty sad state of affairs in my opinion.

This case is cut and dry the cop shot someone who was not a threat to him or others. He will be found guilty but I doubt the 1st degree charge will be what he is found guilty of, more likely a lesser charge of Voluntary Manslaughter. I would not go so far as to say he was racist I think that would take some more evidence then just the circumstance of this incidence.

Reading her OP she seems to imply that the only reason the officer was arrested was to avoid another Ferguson-type series of protests.

Everyone...

The Supreme Court Decision handed down in "Tennessee Vs. Garner" gives the Police the Legal Means to fire at a fleeing Felon. The Court stated that "...if in the Officer's Opinion, and Experience, there is a chance of another Felony being immediately committed should the Felon escape, that Officer may use ANY force to stop the Felon from fleeing him...."

The Officer in question here did not have that criteria met!! There was NO chance of Mr. Brown committing another Felony, the field was separated from where the man whom filmed this incident by a pretty substantial looking fence. In MY opinion, and utilizing the nearly thirty years of experience I have acquired Behind the Badge, this was a Case bordering on Cold Blooded Murder....

I do think that the officer was arrested that quickly to prevent another Ferguson type event.  I don't doubt he would have been arrested in 24-48 hours.  I'm not certain, but I believe there would have been at least some investigation before he was arrested pre-ferguson.

It might have taken longer and the initial charge would not be 1st degree either. In the end charging him was the right call regardless. Now personally I don't see 1st degree murder in this case and most likely neither will juries so let's hope the prosecution has lesser degrees on the table for the jury to choose. Voluntary manslaughter is most fitting I would think unless they can come up with evidence that the cop was racist based upon more then the shooting.

the more i look at the replays of the event the more i think that this  now ex-police officer shot the man in cold blood and then attempted to cover it up to protect his own arse ....... if there had not been the witness to the shooting then it would have been just another shooting of a black man.... if you or i shot a police officer then you would be really up shit creek but you can bet that the system will cover this up and this murderer will get a slap on the wrist..... has there been any idea when this matter will go to trial

Kelly I must disagree,

The fact that the former Officer Schlager was Arrested and Charged with First Degree Murder, shows that the State believes that there was Malice and Forethought before Walter Scott was shot to death. You have a LOT of time to think and consider your actions in a Foot Pursuit, especially as slowly as former Officer Schlager seemed to be running.

As far as I know, there is no Trial Date set. The Preliminary Investigations are not yet complete, so we will have to wait until they are before a Trial Date can be set....I believe that the full weight of the Charges levied here will not allow for a Plea Bargain, nor should the Lesser Included Offenses be Plead on. He's going to Trial, I'm pretty confident in saying that....
