With the exception of skilled, trained, well supervised children who have had NRA firearms training, and family training in firearm safety, random children and random firearm access is a bad mix. On that we have agreement.
Unskilled handling of firearms is dangerous, and to be avoided by anyone. Accident by firearm is potentially fatal, and must be treated as such by parents and other guardians of children, and of other potential persons under their care.
Firearm safety is essential for all, be they firearm owners, members of the household of firearm owners, and all capable of sound thinking, of any age, who may exhibit any interest in any firearm at all, prior to touching such firearm.
I believe the above should be similarly a point of agreement for us all, Toe, and others at KB. That said, we should work together toward making accident situations not happen, reducing accidental harm to a firearm ignorant person.
Parents, Coaches, Teachers and others with trusted supervision positions need to find ways to educate about how to avoid handling, touching firearms.
A NRA firearm safety course is easy to obtain, upon request of parent(s), and any Police Officer should be able to assist any child carer obtain local info.
------------
Criminal firearm access and use is a decidedly different challenge, and one we should all be willing and able to discuss, and attempt to address, without all the drama and other behavior so often displayed when discussing guns.
-------------
Each of the above is distinct from, while there are parallel issues, to firearm ownership, possession, and legal use, which is delineated as an important right, among other rights, by the U.S. Constitution.
Respecting others Rights, need not mean warfare among lawful persons, and demonstrating such respect, that citizens may have different views, and still will follow the law as is required and expected for all.
We can isolate details of our differences, and find some common ground.
