Nominal diameter, and grains in black powder.  Why they switched nomenclature for the 30-06 after adopting smokeless powder.

Incidentally, I'm an editor on Wikipedia, and other wikis, like TV Tropes.

You know why it's measured in "Grains?"

Psiberzerker-we measure bullets and powder by their mass and grains is a measurement of mass not volume. Does that explain it or do I need to go into it deeper?

Yes, I know, but why use the measure of grains instead of another unit of measure?

Also Weight, not Mass.

Psiberzerker-I have a question for you buddy. The caliber .30-40...without looking it up on your internet, what does the 30 and the 40 stand for?

At least my gun club finally stopped playing games with the lock combination to the range and started using random numbers.

Past combinations included 4570 and 2506.  Ya just had to imagine the dashes in between, cuz they ain’t no dashes on the locks.

I always wanted a .450 Marlin, but then they stopped making those.  And a .257 Wheatherby.  But I’d settle for the others that come close.

"A pound of flesh weighs the same as a pound of fat."  That's why we have uniform measures.

I encourage you to look for answers, rather than make them up.

In the 14th Century, there was no concept of "Mass."  That should get you started.  They didn't start Corning powder into "Grains" for uniform burning rates for another 500 years.

At 1g, does it matter?

Psiberzerker-well how far back do we have to go. This part is going to bore even me. If a person looks back into the English standard for gold well that pretty much sums it up. Is that what you’re asking?

The real reason why is in the Arquebus days, black powder was mixed by the Apothecary (The modern Compound Pharmacist) because it was considered a "Far Eastern," (Read Chinese) Art.

Psiberzerker-oh I’m sure my answer was on but your question could be answered in a few different ways. You know that. Fun game tho.

Fun game tho.

You started it.  The nomenclature of nominal diameter, and grains of black powder is fairly common range talk.

You started this crusade against the "Lefties" calling for Common Ground.  It took a few months, but we have finally found it.  Now, abandon this idea that I'm an idiot that doesn't know anything about guns, and want the government to take your's.

Also, you fucking anti-intellectual, people should be encouraged to look things up.  Wikipedia isn't witchcraft.  It's just the internet.  People learn on the internet, it's not just for porn, cat pictures, and political rants.

Psiberzerker-looking info up doesn’t really give a clear picture of what someone knows without lout looking it up. I realize you can find all kinds of things on the internet that I don’t know. If that was something I really felt was important to remember you would’ve got more then a sums it up answer.

I thought it was an interesting story.  You apparently did not.

Looking info up is how we learn interesting things.  Making shit up, rather than admitting we don't know is how people, like you, misinform yourselves.

Psiberzerker-hahaha you read off Wikipedia why grains is used. That doesn’t make you intelligent sweetie. Nor does that little bit of info really stop that argument of you being an idiot. Your BAR comment alone makes you look like an idiot. As does so much more. Hahaha that’s range talk hahaha you are so full of shit with that!!! Anyone else her out there shooting say hey Fred you know why we measure grains instead of other units of measure? Hahaha you’re full of it. The talk of it get so deep is hey to move this weight projectile at this speed I use this powder with this many grain. Hahaha I’ve been to a hell of a lot of ranges all over the us and in one other country and never was that conversation. You are so full of shit!! Hahaha
