https://www.dallasnews.com/news/crime/2019/12/29/2-dead-1-in-critical-condition-after-reported-shooting-at-church-in-white-settlement/

Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, speaking at the evening news conference, highlighted changes in state law that ensured the right to carry concealed weapons in churches.

He credited the church’s volunteer security team for protecting their fellow members.

“The heroism today is unparalleled,” Patrick said. “This team responded quickly, and within six seconds the shooting was over.”

A broken clock is correct twice a day.  Grateful the church shooting, about 15 minutes from where I grew up, was not worse.  Dan Patrick is a fucking idiot.

Jack Wilson, who killed the shooter with a single shot, is a former deputy sheriff and a firearms instructor.  He was wearing a uniform, as head of the church's volunteer security team.  In other words he wasn’t some jack off packing heat.  He was a career law enforcement officer and firearms specialist, who did what he had volunteered to do:  provide security for the church.  Even with all that, two men on his team were shot before he took out the gunman.

You are right Toe.  If a gunman is determined to kill, he can do a lot of damamge before he is stopped.  If he was only attacking with a hammer he might have hurt just one person, likely not fatally, before he was stopped.

Good guys with guns, shooting at bad guys with guns, in churches, schools, malls, and theaters, is just a recipe for disaster.  Up security and gun ownership screening, not the number of guns in public places.

And Dan Patrick is from Maryland.  He’s about as Texan as Pete Buttigieg.

The congregation members who were not harmed, have Mr. Wilson, the Good Guy With A Gun, to thank for their being alive, and unharmed. No question.

They also have the Texas Legislature, and Governor, to thank for being able to bring self defense with a firearm into a place of worship that welcomed such.

Yeah Toe would that be nice living in a country where you aren’t allowed to defend yourself but always need government to take care of you. Yeah that’s be great ????!!! I bet you’d even let them put cameras in your bedroom and your wife’s shower. Grow a pair man. You are so narrow minded when it comes to firearms and your liberties that I’m sure you lick your fair share of Windows. Sick of you little beta, whinny ass, cry for help yet hate those that help type of scum. Joan has posted many examples of good guys/gals with firearms doing what had to be done. Not LEOs just regular people. You choose to not see truth or fact and lack the basic common sense probly to even wipe your own ass in the dark. You truly are a dipshit as PSI is and will remain.

Not really. I’d rather we tend to our own country. Unfortunately other country’s shit spills over if it allowed.
That being said, I’ll stand with my country and would serve again if needed. Even after I was there and friends of mine died there. One of my friends I went to middle and high school with who was a year older than me died there.
I gather you don’t trust the intelligence behind eliminating Soleimani? Or is it really that you just hate our president and he is damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t?

By the way Lois, I chuckled when I read your comment about a hammer being used instead of a firearm in reference to the Texas church shooting. You make it sound like every gun shot victim dies yet it’s very unlikely that one would be fatally wounded from a hammer...umm ookay...
You do realize how many people are killed with blunt force objects each year?
You seem to insinuate that all gun shot victim’s wounds are fatal, which is BS. If that were the case then I’d agree but there is no truth in what you said.

My only concern with eliminating Solimani is the fact that it will escalate conflict in the region, just as invading Iraq did.  We have sent more troops into Iraq, I'd rather we brought more home.

I too had a chuckle when reading your post that said a hammer was just as dangerous as a gun.  I've never heard of anyone accidentally killing themselves when cleaning their hammer.

A gun is an enabler.  You can kill many more people with a gun than with many other things, and you can do it from a distance.  That is unless you are Thor and can throw your hammer and it always returns back to your hand.

Let's make some attempt at keeping threads ON TOPIC, please. There are a lot of Trump Sucks threads at KB, and this one is not one of them.

 Thank you.

Lois-so death being the part that is the effect of a bullet wound or a hammer strike...yes they are both dangerous and equally dangerous. Some would say and I would agree that a knife or hammer can be more dangerous when face to face. The diameter of let’s say a 9mm in inches is .355. I have pocket knives that have 3 inch blades. My hunting knives are 3 to 5 inches. Depending on the hammer you could have anywhere from an inch to 2 1/2 inches of face surface. Someone walking up to you unexpectedly with a firearm, knife, hammer, baseball bat, etc has the advantage and if you are untrained, lack situational awareness, and don’t act deliberately to avert the attack then each weapon can be used to kill. So yes they are each as dangerous as the others. Tell me again how they are so different when knives and blunt force objects kill more people each year?

People don’t “accidentally” die from a gun shot wound. It’s negligence or deliberate. One of the two. Safetys can fail but all that handle them should know not to point them in a direction that could cause damage to person or property. Again, safety is between the ears.

Joan-The decision to take out Soleimani was a good guy (President Trump) with a gun (does it really have to be a rifle or pistol?). National security, church security, home security...all relevant. I think this is very much so on topic.

Intruder doesn’t heed Detroit homeowner’s warning, gets shot

DETROIT – An attempted home invasion was thwarted early Friday when a homeowner shot someone trying to get in his back door.

William said he was watching a movie inside his home on Goddard Street when he heard something.

“I heard a bang and I knew it wasn’t a sound from the headphones, so I take the headphones off and when I take my headphones off, I hear someone trying to kick in my back door,” he said.

William said he called police, grabbed his rifle and went to the door. He said a man was trying to cut his screen door.

“I yelled out, ‘You about to get shot. Get away from my door.' (It) didn’t bother him. He got even more relentless,” he said. “I said, ‘Well I gotta get him before he gets me,’ so I fired a shot through the door.”

William said the intruder yelled ouch and said he was going to get his gun, but police arrived before he could do so.

The intruder is at a hospital, but he will be headed to jail when he recovers from being shot.

William believes the man has targeted his home before.

“A week earlier, he broke in my garage and stole my lawn mower,” he said. “I’m glad he’s off the streets. It’s something somebody else won’t have to worry about.”

By Scottie Andrew, January 6, 2020

A group of children were throwing snowballs at cars in Milwaukee when a driver shot at them. A 12-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy were struck and hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Two children, ages 12 and 13, were shot after throwing snowballs at passing cars in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, police said.

The pair was hurling snowballs at passing cars with a group of children on Saturday evening, Milwaukee police said in a series of tweets.

One of the snowballs struck a white Toyota, and the driver of the car shot at the children, police said.

Police found the 12-year-old girl and the 13-year-old boy minutes apart. Both of their injuries were non-life-threatening.

Both children are being treated at a local hospital, police said.

Milwaukee police asked tipsters with information about the suspect or the incident to contact the department at 414-935-7360 or Milwaukee Crime Stoppers at 414-224-8477.

A sad world we are living in when the ushers at this church are qualified to carry concealed weapons. Parents are continually having these types of situations dumped on them. Once safe places, i.e. church and schools, are now the cause of worry for parents. I guess the only redeeming thing about this was the gunman was shot and killed before any further blood shed resulted.

Not many object to "this good guy" being there and doing what he did. He was brave indeed and risked himself being the next target. We are glad he had a defense weapon and prevailed to go for certification and approval. The access of a weapon by the perp is another matter and where the problem originated. Thankful it was a shotgun versus a more popular AR or AK.
