I agree Katie. Cheering death is disgusting.  It's a tragedy all the way around and we should be sad about it, not glad.

Someone made a bad choice and now his family is missing a member.  That is tragic.

Plus, mosts of the events Joan posts about have little to do with self defense, and everything to do with protecting property.

During the Great Depression my grandfather was shot and killed by a farmer while stealing eggs from a chicken coop to feed his family.  It might have been "legally" justified at the time and no doubt Joan would have said "The farmer got the job done!"  But morally? Not justifiable at all.

Human life is more important than property.

Human life is more important than property.

Exactly.

What a tragic story about your grandfather, Lois.  :'(

And on the news in Detroit this morning we hear of the 7th Detroit Officer shot in as many months.   Needlessly shot in the back of the head responding to a domestic violence call.   It is still unclear if he will survive.

Police hate domestic violence calls. They are most unpredictable and dangerous.

Shall we change the Title of this thread, to better fit all the comments about feeling sorry for the thief or bank robber? And to better fit the interest in child accidents, and ill supervised children?

Perhaps a title that reflects what our law enforcement regrets about their various career choices, and the bizarre incidents they witness with residents.

Or, we could leave the Title as it is, and reflect upon how firearm use by 'good guys', as opposed to the 'bad guys', protects bank employees, store employees, shoppers and customers as they go about their daily lives in what we accept as a civilized society.

The title is from a NRA slogan. The slogan is built on a myth. I have shown that.

And I'm puzzled by Joan's use of the word "we" here.

It's as if the error of the thread title has been pointed out to her numerous times, so now she's blaming the thread title (which was created by "us") for the baselessness of her arguments.

Good gal with a gun? Seems like self defense to cops/prosecutors in FL.

Want to not get shot? Obey the law.

Actually that goes without saying.....except in situations where the shooter is determined to go out in a rage of glory (so to speak), at that point laws don't apply, he/she will shoot you (and shoot you for any reason the shooter thinks is plausible).

Love,
Liz

I am saddened by the glorification of violence.  Violence should never be the first solution to a problem, but the last.

Those who see violence as the first solution to their problems are doomed to a life full of violence and domestic abuse.

Did someone here glorify violence?

Seems to me, the good guy/gal in these stories defended themselves, legally.

Violence was the intent of the persons attacking, invading, assaulting the good guy, or good gal who was prepared and prevailed, in spite of the perp's actions.

I belong to a gun club, and I am on several gun centric sites. Some are specifically for collectors like I am, one is just a very relaxed politically sutras site. On that site a member posted a rangenreport about a mall ninja showing up with his AR15 variant.

This individual attracted the intense attention of the RSOs as he proceeded to burn up 60 rounds with rapid fire, and failed to to hit paper on an 11x17 target at 7 yards.

This is the kind of yahoo who will get people killed. His rounds work not hit the intended target. He doesn’t really have any control or the mindset for a confrontation with firearms.

Welcome to Texas, land of mall ninjas.

There are three kinds of people in the world. Those who can count, and those who can't.

Okay Katie........
I guess I'll stick with bench rest for my M-14, or at least prone (much easier to control). Plus the damn thing can kick like a mule....
