I love that last meme Toe!

TikTokers flood Texas abortion whistleblower site with Shrek memes, fake reports and porn
Critics of Texas’ new law have been filing hundreds of fake reports to the whistleblowing website in hopes of crashing it

Pro-choice users on TikTok and Reddit have launched a guerrilla effort to thwart Texas’s extreme new abortion law, flooding an online tip website that encourages people to report violators of the law with false reports, Shrek memes, and porn.

The law makes it illegal to help women in Texas access abortion after the sixth week of pregnancy. To help enforce it, anti-abortion group Texas Right to Life established the digital tipline where people can send anonymous information about potential violations.

“Any Texan can bring a lawsuit against an abortionist or someone aiding and abetting an abortion after six weeks,” the website reads, and those proved to be violating the law can be fined a minimum of $10,000. An online form allows anyone to submit an anonymous “report” of someone illegally obtaining an abortion, including a section where images can be uploaded for proof.

Prior to the supreme court’s decision in Texas, Roe v Wade stopped laws that banned abortion before a fetus is viable outside the womb, generally regarded as 24 weeks.
How does someone in Texas get an abortion now and what’s next?

But pro-choice users had other ideas, bombarding the site with false reports and fabricated data through a campaign primarily organized on Reddit and TikTok.

Though the site was launched a month ago, the fake reports came flooding in on the eve of the bill’s enactment. One TikTok user said they had submitted 742 fake reports of the governor Greg Abbott getting illegal abortions.

In a tongue-in-cheek caption, the user encouraged others to do the same: “It would be a shame if TikTok crashed the ProLifeWhistleBlower website”.

Redditors said they had submitted reports blaming the state of Texas for facilitating abortions by having highways that allow people to travel to the procedure.

“Wouldn’t it be so awful if we sent in a bunch of fake tips and crashed the site? Like, Greg Abbott’s butt stinks,” one TikTok creator said.

Another TikTok user showed how he uploaded Shrek memes claiming they were images proving “my wife aborted our baby 4 weeks into her pregnancy without my consulting me”. Meanwhile, other users encouraged people to upload image attachments containing various kinds of porn.

The coordinated effort echoes a movement in June 2020 to flood a Donald Trump rally with fake sign-ups, resulting in an empty stadium for the actual event.

An activist who goes by the name Sean Black said he programmed a script to submit reports en masse on the website automatically.

Black, who describes himself as a “regular college student from North Carolina”, has released a Python script and an iOS shortcut for less tech-savvy to send thousands of reports a day.

He said his data shows nearly 8,000 people have used the Python code and 9,000 have used the iOS shortcut. Others have been inspired by his coding against anti-abortion advocates, saying collaborators across the US are working with him on 10 “active branches” of new features in the tool.

The website appears to be doing its best to take on the influx of false reports and remains online despite other sabotage attempts including attacks by hackers.

Nancy Cárdenas Peña, a Texas director for the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Justice, said she was blocked by the website from using the form after she tweeted about it. Some web hosts allow people to block visitors to their sites by IP address.

“Gosh, I wonder if they factored in people abusing the integrity of this system,” she said, jokingly adding: “Hmmm I hope ppl don’t abuse this! That would be terrible.”

I heard about this, and J. H. Christ! Talk about weaponising your friends and neighbours! And the Republican judges are sitting there with shit-eating grins, too, th<There is such a thing as too far, Ao1.>.

As has been stated by journalists and analysts, other conservative states now have a template to enact similar laws. As they also put it, they aren't overturning Roe vs Wade, they're just making it all but toothless.

The Supreme Courts split decision not to overturn this crazy law shows how much trouble this country is in due to Trump's appointments. It goes beyond all reason and sounds like Nazi Germany. Turn in your neighbor and be rewarded!

Now that the airlift as ended in Afghanistan, maybe it's time to airlift women and children out of Texas.

I used to be extremely pro-life and even in those days, I would NOT have been OK with what Texas is doing.  Even more so now.

My issue with the pro-life movement as it exists today is the focus on abortion.  Pro-life advocates see abortion and euthanasia as evils to be conquered but do not focus on the people in those issues.  The issue is the problem, the people they are "protecting" are just an afterthought.

While I still believe abortion is the death of a human person, I cannot call myself pro-life as there is much more nuance to things.

1. If pro-lifers truly cared, the movement would focus more on not only sex education but also on providing unexpected mothers with options for support and care that would last years, not just long enough to convince them not to have abortions.
2. Men do need to be held accountable for their roles in pregnancy, after all, there is no virgin birth (at least not these days).  Men need to be required to at minimum provide child support, but in some ways, even that isn't enough.  If a child doesn't have a male figure of some kind in their life, they miss out on part of the equation, and no, that isn't an argument against same-sex marriage.  A coach, teacher, or another person can act as a father/mother figure but, the point is, if there is an actual father, that person should be the one to take on that role.
3. Shaming and blaming women and causing legal repercussions for their decision to abort, which is hard enough as it is, is atrocious and inhumane.  Not to mention that via loopholes a neighbor could technically report a woman who had a miscarriage, and I've experienced a miscarriage with my ex, it SUCKS.  We couldn't even have a funeral/burial because the unborn child wasn't old enough to have a death certificate.  Now, I imagine what it would have been like to be reported to the government and need to PROVE that we didn't have an abortion, and I can see myself punching the neighbor who made the claim or wanting to sue them for defamation.  It makes me so angry that I don't think I even have the words for it.  There is no emotional care in place for those who experience miscarriage, and now there is the possibility of neighbors spying and accusing people of abortion at random, including those who went through a miscarriage.  It is beyond insanity.
4. Regarding euthanasia (no this isn't the issue we're discussing but, I'm already on this rant/road) I truly believe that people wanting to end their own life either are doing it to escape from the pain, or they are doing it because they feel like they have no support or are a burden on those who love them.  I think, again, if people want to lessen the desire of people in pain to take their own lives, they need to consider the bigger picture.  Perhaps teaching families and friends of these individuals to get through the discomfort of living with a person who is heading towards death and being by their side more often might lessen the overall pain or feeling of being a burden.  Making it illegal simply encourages emotional suffering because families don't know how to deal with the pain of someone suffering through the end of cancer.  I know I didn't with my Aunt when she died, nor did I really know how to deal with the discomfort with my mom's cancer the two times she fought it.  Imagine if instead of focusing on making laws against euthanasia we made funding available for family counseling so people could actually BE there for those suffering.

So, yeah, that is where I stand on things now.  Texas has done a grave disservice to humanity with its laws, and the Supreme Court has done a grave disservice by refusing to overturn said laws.

Our Minneapolis paper today had the headline,

"Texas begins abortion vigilante era"

Texas has become the nation's "black eye".  Can we give the state back to Mexico?

Everyone I know in Texas is just in a state of shock. The fall out, and long term repercussions, from this will be huge.

All of Texas’s major population centers are reasonably progressive, educated, and vote Democratic.  But drive 50 miles outside of Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, Fort Worth, it is the fucking Handmaiden’s Tale.  And much like what we see in America, those rural areas are disproportionately represented in the Legislature.

The GQP has become the enemy of the people. They are promoting a dystopian agenda for the conspiracy theory and anti-science crowd.

America has been on the verge of a civil war since its inception. It’s amazing we be lasted as long as we have.

Toe. I really love having some lifetime politician telling me what to do with my body and when. I know a couple of the representatives that have local businesses and am amazed the 2 faced manner they conduct interface with someone that disagrees.

At the same time, this backward state has okayed open display of weapon without training in the use of such, no permit needed. I work with a majority of elderly people that are now convinced they too should be armed seeing no license is required. Most of whom can not make their fingers pull a trigger let alone aim without their arms shaking.

Your post show the difficulty of voting these vermin out of office.

Texas, where we won’t protect our young daughters with a mask mandate in public schools, but we will force our young daughters to carry their rapists’ babies to full term.

We won’t extend free Federal Medicare and unemployment coverage to help the poor, but we will spend $2 BILLION taxpayer dollars to put up Trump’s fence.

Oh, and we love law enforcement so much that we now allow open carry of weapons without a license or training.

Hey Texas! You're doing this all wrong!

Instead of trying to stop abortions, you should be trying to stop conception. No conception, no need for abortion.

It's easy. Here's how you do it.

Mandate that every male over the age of 12 MUST have a vasectomy. It's a simple, low risk procedure and, more importantly, it is reversible.

Now, when a guy settles down and shows that he's a responsible human being and can be fiscally sound, he can apply (for a small fee) for a vasectomy reversal.

Boom! Abortion problem solved AND a new revenue stream. That's a win-win. What could be better?

Wait, what's that?

You say the idea of state government having that much control over a man's body is preposterous?

Huh. Well, maybe you're right. No one would be stupid enough to pass a law like that, would they?

Maybe Texas will go back to being part of Mexico.
It already is, their army is here and waiting. There are entire neighborhoods that have been taken over by Hispanics. So, all the BS efforts at the border are not working, the door is wide open across the border. Take a look at Costco and Amazon in Brookshire/Katy Texas the employees at both locations are 80% Hispanic, 15% White (includes Asians), and 5% Black. Pass by a road construction job what do you see? A few white bosses/owners but the rest are Latino. Hispanic/Latino are getting it done and their political footprint is huge.

I'm in Miami right now getting ready for the Formula one race and I haven't seen this many white folks in a coons age in Miami, it's all Latins.

A gunman killed at least 18 children and 2 adults at a Texas elementary school

Because obviously we need to give every first-grader a firearm to stop such senseless tragedies.

Give Ted a break. When you depend on the gun lobby for a lot of your reelection funds, ya gotta do what you're paid to do. He's bought and paid for. The NRA and others are getting their moneys worth. :emot_ntworthy:

Because conspiracy and paranoia are a key part of right wing politics, and politicians like Ted are great at fanning the flames of fear and at the same time presenting themselves as the saviors of the tribe.
