I think Joan makes a valid point. Her post is clearly intended to be satirical and, as such, it succeeds.

To be sure, the whole Obama-As-Crypto-Muslim thing is laughable -- and flat-out wrong. As are her (and many others') accusations of Obama's conspiring to promote Islam at the expense of Christian religions.

However, she's correct that the media are tying themselves in knots trying to downplay the ISIS connection -- regardless of whether it's real or simply in this deranged man's mind. And, in general, the media has been downplaying the genuine threat that ISIS has and continues to pose.

Add to that, I agree -- up to a point -- that both in the the media and in general public discourse, the effort not to judge all Muslims by the actions of radical Muslims, who represent a tiny percentage of all Muslims worldwide, has led some to downplay, or even deny, the role that some Muslims have played in the commission of acts of terror and even mass murder (e.g. the attack on a Pakistani school yesterday that left over 100 children dead).

In other words, rather than mocking Joan for this post, I give her props. Well, qualified props at least...

I agree with MissB. I enjoy Joan's remarks. I may phrase them differently but more times than not, they are similar to mine. she is a great counterpoint to many here.

GB, perhaps you should follow your own advice,,, don't read her posts. then you don't have to be so insulting.

The difficulty is finding a coherent thread in a post that seems to have wildly divergent references and allusions. They have become increasingly obtuse over the past few months. The connections she makes are extremely tenuous and often times exist only in context of an uninformed conspiracy theory.

Man Haron Monis was a Sunni, not a Shiite. And he proclaimed his personal allegiance to ISIS.

I realize that humor is subjective. And satire, one of the more subtle forms of humor, is not always grasped by everyone. I assume many people thought Jonathan Swift sounded like a deranged lunatic, too.
