And, as I pointed out, the knee-jerk feminazi response is rarely seen on this Board -- a place where people speak much more freely than they do in real life. Every single woman who posted here spoke out against extending some men's behavior to all men. The OP practically begged women to respond with "this proves that all men are pigs," and yet none did.

MissB.  Why do you think this is so?  Are you insinuating that many here don't say many of the things in real life as they do here at KB?  Excluding sexual topics, I think you may be wrong.

Actually, I think she is right....The Internet makes a person invisible, you can post/say your honest opinions and no one will be able to attack you face to face, The Internet gives a margin of safety in a conversation/disagreement. In a real world face to face conversation you have to temper exactly what you are going to say.

Indeed, but the fact that virtually all men in this thread have chimed in on the 'all men are pigs' theme and the fact that Phtlc felt he couldn't express a certain statement even if it was true, -to me- points to a disturbing trend in society. While women in a lot of third world countries are still treated as second class citizens, it seems that in our western world the pendulum is often also swinging in the other direction, with men being vilified as some type of 'animals'. ...

Not ALL of us (here) re-define ourselves to suit the expectations of the typical American woman.  Perhaps that's why I have a strong following among young Latina and Asian girls.  Just a thought.

Although some of the guys in that clip went well beyond a courteous smile, let's do the math:

She's in Manhattan, one of the most densely-populated sections of the USA.  She's walking around for 10 FREAKING HOURS and only gets 100 men acting rudely.  In that 10 hours, she had to have passed THOUSANDS of men.  Sooooo, only a small percentage were assholes.  I can live with that distribution.

Remember the Golden Rule: you do me, and I\'ll do you (paraphrased)

Thank goodness, I was getting a little worried by the responses of some of the other men in this thread!

According to what some of the guys post here, they are leading a sporadically monastic life of celibacy

From what he's described, it seems the situation up there in Canada -- where the bad type of political correctness seems to be running amok -- is different from the U.S. So I give him a big pass for that.

I find that I frequently have to remind myself that I am mostly talking to Americans here, because our versions of liberal and conservative are very different from yours.

While you're waiting in vain for that apology, why don't you make yourself useful by getting on your knees and opening your mouth

I'm not insinuating anything, I'm stating it outright.

Liz puts it perfectly. It's the anonymity of KB, the lack of a need to self-censor for social reasons, the allows one to speak more frankly and forthrightly. This is, in my opinion, one of the most appealing aspects of KB.

And I think frank and honest speech occurs much more to discussion threads than it does in the sex-related threads.

Which is one big reason I don't drink American beer.

My dad once remarked that the difference between Coors and Lone Star (a Texas beer) was a 1500 mile trip under a hot sun, over bumpy roads.

I still make it a point to open the door for the ladies, but do wonder whether I'm going to get a smile and thanks or a slap across the face and be called a sexest pig. but the smile and thanks makes it worth it.

Being polite is not sexist. Don't over think this. Treat others as you would be treated.

Liz, so you are saying that what you post here in KB is not what you would dare say to someone in real life?  As for MissB, I wonder where she came up with her theory.  Maybe an educated guess?  Sad if people say one thing on the internet and another in real life, again, exclusive of sexual topics.

Look at the crap some have posted. Most people won't say certain things to your face because it could result in a punch in the nose.

I must admit I do get a certain amount of pleasure out of opening the door for a woman I recognize as, well, strongly feminist, and seeing her reaction.   8)

One has to be realistic about what they can say in real life. Many of the view points I express in 1408 are ones that I would not express in my workplace. There is nothing wrong with using internet anonymity to exercise free speech; the only sad thing is that you shouldn't have to use anonymity.

That is sad in itself. For me throwing punches is something I would only do if I feared for my own safety. Nobody could provoke me to violence with words. But you are right, there are many out there who just fly off at mere words.

Wow.  Why am I not surprised that Fox's take on it is: "it's her fault for walking around looking slutty..."  Yoo hoo! <brain check!>  Jeans and a T-shirt aren't slutty.  They're absolutely common wear for the average person, men and women alike.  Hell, out of everyone I work with, I'm one of the few that always wears cotton button-up shirts; most everyone else wears
T-shirts.

I'm much more subtle about praise: a combination of body language and an admiring glance is all I'll do, nothing overt, and I *don't* do either one with the women that work for me.  I keep it strictly professional and friendly with them.

Remember the Golden Rule: you do me, and I\'ll do you (paraphrased)
