When I saw the photos of what was done to that child it almost brought me to tears.  I don't discuss my personal life much on the internet, but Cris Carter stated how I felt much better than I ever could have.

As I stated earlier in the Ray Rice thread, maybe because football thrives on violence it begets violent people.  How a parent disciplines their own child though, unless it borders on a criminal act, should not be up to the government.

Maybe not..
But when it comes down to drawing blood and scars,
To being so belligerent to say "I don't bother to count how many hits"
To hitting and cutting his scrotum in other beatings...
(All reported in texts to the mother from him)
To having a specific "whipping room" with closets of belts (this one is touchy as it could just be a well-stocked play dungeon for adult games for the kinky and may be used for his 'whipping' but has other purposes not understood by the kid)
To using leaves, stuffing them in your kids mouth to "keep him quiet during the whippin'" when outside,
And some hitting in the face.
All this reported by the kid to and in the police reports.

He cannot control himself. With switches that will welt up, scar if done hard enough and draw blood..it is something that can be mildly OK to do _if_ you're not a superhuman.
With his beefed up size and strength, he can take his kids arm in one hand and snap it in two if he wanted to-especially that young. To beat and whip "while not bothering to count" is just his own violent and abusive nature flowing thru. And is not a nature that a real caring parent should show. This situation is best figured out now before the kid ends up hospitalized. Or worse as simple whippings don't 'satisfy' him down the line. If he's not following a format "not bothering to count".. He's just reacting to his own emotions and desires to control. Beating until _his_ rage runs out (for whatever supposed infraction). Not disciplining to correct a situation. Best to stop now before his rage goes beyond what his kid's body will handle.

Seems Adrian Peterson will be back playing next week.  He admitted he was not an ideal parent but he was not a child abuser.

I am not defending Peterson.  And I am not an advocate of physically punishing children but I have experienced worse cuts, bruises, etc at the end of a belt then the photos show his son received.

The Minnesota Governor has stated he opposes AP being reinstated.

The State is currently building a billion dollar new stadium for the Vikes with the team kicking in less than half.  It was a controversial decision at the time, spending so many tax dollars for a sports team.

I guess is the Governor's people checked the polls and found out most people are against the reinstatement.  He's a good one for going with which way the wind blows (I know most pols are).

Personally, I've never understood the fervor over football.  I find it boring...3 hours plus to complete 60 minutes of game time.  And then, these big rough and tumble guys have to go cuddle between every play.  What's up with that?

With the NFL, it's all about the money.  Until people quit attending games and the bottom line for the owners is negatively affected, issues like these will rear their ugly heads but go away in due time. Would love to see women, who are said to represent almost half of the football fans, stay away in droves or boycott the games.  Maybe then, the owners will realize they have a serious problem on their hands.
