Saw this, it puts it in perspective...

Personally, anytime someone is an influential celebrity and does something this stupid they need to be stripped of everything and have it done publicly.

The trouble with reality is the lack of background music!

Ray Rice is a shitbag and Roger Goodell is probably a liar.

It's really turning into a shit sundae of a week off the field in the sports world.

Goodell makes like 44 million dollars and cannot even get punishments correct.  A one year ban for the Cleveland Brown's receiver, Gordon, for having marijuana and a four game ban on a Denver Bronco receiver for testing positive during the off season yet gives a slap on the wrist to Ray Rice.

The first two may be reinstated by Friday because the League has changed some of the language in the rule they supposedly broke but it wasn't until the new video surfaced, the one Goodell said his office requested and the attorney for the state of New Jersey said they couldn't legally give the League office but the Ravens somehow saw and immediately banned Rice indefinitely.

Anyone who cold cocks a woman like Rice did should be banned for life. He has no respect for women so why should he be respected or treated any differently than a common thug like he is.

Emancipate yourself from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our minds.

Damn near everyone focuses on Rice, mean time another woman is knocked silly and then marries the asshole who dropped her. WTF! Abused women why why do they stay?  I don't get it.

National Organization for Women calls for Roger Goodell's resignation

Quote

The NFL has lost its way.  It doesn't have a Ray Rice problem; it has a violence against women problem.

According to FiveThirtyEight.com, the relative arrest rate of NFL players is fifty-five percent for domestic violence, and thirty-eight percent for sex offenses.
Days after announcing his new domestic violence policy, Goodell said Ray McDonald of the San Francisco 49ers, who is facing a felony domestic violence charge, could play in the team's season opener against the Dallas Cowboys.
Greg Hardy is still playing for the Carolina Panthers, even after being convicted in July of choking his former girlfriend and threatening to kill her.

Goodell's response to accusations that Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones sexually assaulted a woman has been: radio silence.

The only workable solution is for Roger Goodell to resign, and for his successor to appoint an independent investigator with full authority to gather factual data about domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking within the NFL community, and to recommend real and lasting reforms.

The NFL sets the example for college, high school, middle school and even elementary school football programs.  And the example it is setting right now is simply unacceptable.

New leadership must come in with a specific charge to transform the culture of violence against women that pervades the NFL.

That's the only way to restore honor and integrity to the country's most lucrative and popular pastime.

I just heard a report on the radio -- which may or may not be accurate -- that a law enforcement official sent a copy of the inside-the-elevator video back in April, and the NFL confirmed receipt.

"A one year ban for...having marijuana."
"...a slap on the wrist to Ray Rice."

Goodells message...Hit Mary, but don't hit MaryJane.

With developments today of the tape being provided to the NFL offices, all it's going to take is a major sponsor to back out.  Once one goes, others will follow.   At that time, the owners will vote him out.  It's all about the money.

Cubans prediction is way off.  The NBA will implode before the NFL.   IMO

Congress asks Goodell for 'highest level of transparency' with Rice

Quote

    Dear Commissioner Goodell:

We write concerning the important issue of domestic violence, which unfortunately impacts every level of our society, and which we must find ways to combat comprehensively. Our professional sports leagues are important economic and cultural institutions in the United States and we are interested in the manner in which these leagues handle incidents of domestic violence by their players, owners, and other employees. We believe that these high-profile professional leagues are, in many ways, in a position of public trust and should be at the forefront of handling such incidents appropriately.

With this year marking the 20th anniversary of the enactment of the Violence Against Women Act, we all recognize that this issue requires strengthened and sustained efforts by individuals, organizations, and government. Of course, we are particularly concerned about information that has come to light about the perpetration of domestic violence by one of the NFL's players, Ray Rice, against his then-fiancee, Janay Palmer, in an elevator at the Revel Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey on February 15, 2014.

Given the important role the NFL and the other major professional sports leagues can play in shaping public perceptions concerning domestic violence, it would appear to be in the public interest to have the highest level of transparency associated with reviews of potential misconduct.

Thus for example, while we understand that you have stated in an interview yesterday on behalf of the NFL that, "We assumed that there was a video, we asked for the video, we asked for anything that was pertinent, but we were never granted that opportunity," to our knowledge the public has not been informed as to specifically how and in what context the request was made, and specifically how relevant law enforcement responded. Nor has there been a full explanation as to whether the video was requested of others, such as Mr. Rice's attorney or the casino where the incident occurred (and if not, why not), or whether any employees, agents, or consultants of the league or any of its teams outside of your office had access to the video prior to September 8. We therefore urge greater transparency and explanations of these matters.

We welcome your recent willingness to change the NFL's policies regarding issues of domestic violence, and we also believe other major professional sports leagues should consider making their policies public and reviews transparent as well. We look forward to working with you and all of the major professional sports leagues so that we can all participate in the effort to reduce incidents of domestic violence, increase transparency in their review, and better respond to those cases that unfortunately do occur.

    Sincerely,

Let us all hope that Chairman Issa finds better uses of Committee time than a show boat C-Span raking the coals of Mr. Rice, Mrs. Rice, and the NFL. There is nothing to gain from such a hearing but trouble.

The 16 white women Senators who sent a letter to the Press, and to the NFL, demanding Zero Tolerance for domestic violence incidents by the NFL is enough circus for the Congress, and meddling should start at home, let's say current and former Members of Congress, House and Senate, who have been involved in Domestic Violence cases, charged and convicted, or not charged, not prosecuted, as in the case of Mr. Rice. Why stop at Domestic Violence, prosecuted or not, lets throw in Moral Turpitude of all sorts, and air all the dirty linen.

Lets hold open hearings on every one of them, and take pensions, seniority, and strip them of their ability to enter the Capitol building, or any House or Senate office building, forthwith.

Lets figure out a way to do this prior to the November elections.

How many cases could there be?

Rep. Jim Moran, D-VA comes to mind for one. Accused by his wife of beating her in their home in Alexandria, VA. She dropped the charges of course, and no doubt received some counseling and happy pills. She left him not long after, taking the kids, house, cars, and a big bite of his pension no doubt, and Jim Moran is stepping down after this term.

Rep. Barney Frank, D-MA (Ret.) whose partner was using Mr. Frank's apartment for gay prostitution liaisons, while living with Mr. Frank.

Senator Chris Dodd, D-CT (Ret.) with numerous charges of drunken behavior, and assaulting women at parties, after hours in clubs near the Capitol, along with his drinking buddy Sen. Ted Kennedy, D-MA.

Who was the Senator flashing cruising signs under the stall divider in the airport... name is escaping me right now, but a full accounting of that fiasco, using Zero Tolerance, and pension removal would be fun.

Let us not forget the husband of Hillary's closest confidant, Rep. Anthony Wiener, D-NY (Resigned) His House Gym membership is likely current, and should be revoked, along with any pension, and a full public testimony, with grilling by his peers (equal time of course) of Democrat, Independent and Republican alike would eat up most of the remainder of this session... better that then what they have plans for in the Lame Duck session of both House and Senate in 2014.

Who can think of some others?

If it is OK for the NFL to discipline a player, namely Mr. Rice; based upon Press Reports and whatever was gleaned from Maryland and New Jersey Prosecutors who declined to Prosecute, who had access and had viewed all the video tape, cutting a deal of counseling and whatever, as is done with most first offenders on domestic violence these days... then when the NFL took some heat about the two game suspension they administered... and revised the NFL standard to a Six Game suspension for future offenders... Ok, new standard...

When a different camera angle essentially was made public, brought Mr. Rice up again, on the same complaint, the same issue, the same unconscious fiance, now Mrs. Rice, being dragged out of a NJ Casino elevator having been knocked out in the elevator... (as if the NFL had not assumed he punched her lights out in there, otherwise why was he being disciplined... she did not slip on a banana peel, after all...

Mr. Rice is the victim of Double Jeopardy in this case. Slime that he is, what was done to him with a year minimum suspension, maybe lifetime suspension, thrown to the sharks of the media and others demanding his head... leaving Mr. and Mrs. Rice without the future they were planning and expecting, is just wrong. Perhaps revise the two game suspension to the new 'standard' six games? maybe... taking his livelihood away, his team fired him quickly (to regain some cap space, no doubt). Mrs. Rice agrees, and would rather people just leave them and their lives alone. All this to save face, from the bone headed light punishment.

What should have happened was a severe fine, and allow him to play as usual, so he could pay the severe fine. If the Prosecutor gives him a pass, why would the NFL, having already disciplined Mr. Rice, now come back, for the same situation, and jump over the new 'standard' even, to ban him from the game?

Will we see every player who has been involved in Domestic Violence given similar treatment? How far back should the NFL go with this?
I heard Chris Plante on radio today, reading from a 15+ page listing of NFL players involved at some point in Domestic Violence, many of whom are still playing. Where does it end.

The list, single spaced, 15+ pages long included Dion Sanders and other well known people, with not ancient incidents. There is big money and many many players involved in disgraceful behavior, not only Domestic Violence. The list on Domestic Violence is overwhelmingly black players, some whites, not all their women victims are black but most are, and so there will be a racial element for the Press, and the usual suspects, as this all rolls out.

Should the league Commissioner quit, turn this over to Sec. State. Condoleza Rice (no relation to Ray Rice, that I am aware of) now, and step down? Hey, he only makes 44 Million a year with salary and benefits/perks, why should he take the hit?

The news cycle demands an answer, before the next thing happens to distract us...

I think Mr. Rice is a creep, and should have had the book thrown at him, prior to his marriage would have been ideal, but spending some quality time with others doing time for his offense would suit me fine.
My problem is with the fairness of the process and tossing people under the bus, to beat the next headline.

Domestic abuse cover ups in the most visible sport in America isn't an important issue?

NOW disagrees.

Cover ups are wrong, totally. Perps need to face criminal and civil penalties if needed to see justice done. My issue was to double jeapardy one for this case. The penalty was light, way too light, the first time, and heavy, for all the wrong reasons, the second time.

I think the 'now standard' six game suspension should apply and Mr. Rice should then be able to go with any team that wants him, and negotiate a new salary arrangement in the process, whether Ravens or someone else. My bet is he is picked up within minutes, once his suspension is revised.

The NFL, the NBA, and many or most sports are plagued with this issue. Boxers paid Millions of dollars are hosted by CBS and others for pay per view events, and some are serial abusers of women, in their private lives. Congress has other business. This business is for the State Courts, and local Prosecutors to handle, and a slap on the wrist is not the way it should go.

Just my opinion.

Maybe the NFL could use a black woman Commissioner after all, to shake things up, and clear the air, after all. I am certain NOW would agree fully with Sec. Rice, and support her in that position.

There is also another football player in trouble for beating his girlfriend yet, like McDonald, is allowed to start and play.

Now we have Adrian Petersen of the Vikings being benched after posting bail for hitting his 4 year old son with a small tree branch as punishment.

Can it be that a sports that promotes violence begets violence in its players?
