That was one hell of a trip. Highway two would have been the most boring road I had even been on if it hant been for the outstanding beauty of it. The last time I went down that road, it was before peak colors, but this time it was after. Didn't matter, it was still gorgeous. The only issue was half of it was 55 mph, but everyone was doing 75-80. We were doing 70, and people were tailgating and then blowing passed us in the passing lanes.
Every time somebody got behind us real close, we would slow down. The closer they got the slower we went, but never went slower that 60-62
Anyways, we got to the island and went out to eat, enjoyed some shopping and some fudge, went back to the hotel, and relaxed with some drinks. Glad we did that, because the very next day EVERYTHING closed for the season. No restaurants, no shops, one place that sold fudge... everything but the grocery store that we saw was closed up. Didn't mind one bit. We decided to walk around the island. No place to rent bikes, so we walked it. Took breaks every mile or so, and sat by the water for a while. Kicked over a few of those completely idiotic stone towers morons like to build. Mostly we just enjoyed the views.
The serenity was spoiled a bit by trucks... yes trucks on an island where no cars are allowed... but they were for the park workers. They were cutting branches and clearing up brush. They use horse and carts for garbage, but then use trucks for everything else. Oh well.
Took us about four and a half hours to walk around the island, and then it was get some drinks and sit by the water and relax. We were probably the only people just chilling while everybody else was working or leaving.
The grocery store has a pizza place in the back, so we order two pizzas. Grab some more booze, and went back to the hotel and just watched TV.
Next day we were up and packed. We locked our bags up at the ferry, and decided, let's go for another walk. This time we went all the way around to the British landing, and then cut through the middle of the island. Not the full 8 miles, but it felt like it.my legs were quite weak when we finished, and went straight to the ferry to depart.
Got back on the mainland, landed up, and we were going to get some pasties, but the place we had in mind... yep, closed for the season... whatever. Instead we ended up driving down to Cheboygan... apparently Michagan people don't know how to spell Sheboygan...😆
Anyways, the only reason we went there was to go to Big Boys, which I had never been to before, guess we used to have them in Green Bay, and myfriend used to go there with her dad all the time. It was her idea, and the main reason for going was because she get nostalgic over the tartar sauce. It was good food, and our server was extremely nice, and very prompt with the coffee. We left her a tip twice what the bill was.
Then we drove to Saint Ignace, crossing that enormous bridge again, and all I could think about was how much Shannon HATES bridges. She would have either been screaming the whole time, passed out from fear, or would have gotten out and swam across. She REALLY HATES bridges. We stayed at a super 8 for another night, and we could see the bridge from our deck. We were enjoying our time outside until a couple of guys right above us decided to come out and starr being really loud, lauging and yelling about "blazing up" and getting kicked out of the hotel because it is no smoking, and then they started throwing things at seagulls. My friend made a sarcastic comment about enjoying the quiet. Guess one of the guys leaned over and looked down and saw her. We went back inside, and then they were upstairs stomping around in their room. We went to the front desk, and asked to change room, which they let us do. While we were doing that, one of those guys came downstairs for whatever reason, and tried to start flirting. He was probably in his early twenties and a "thug" we were having none of it, and he got all pissy. We thought we were going to have more problems from them, but surprisingly, they left us alone.
Over all, we had an excellent time, and I was more than pleased my legs didn't give out.
