I did a helicopter tour over the grand canyon. Never walked or rode anything around it. I did get to walk over the Hoover damn. Even did that goofy thing where you stand with one foot in Nevada and one in Arizona.

Yes, the mule trip is not for people with vertigo. My wife was uncomfortable with the ride, but she put her trust in her mule Maggie. When we got back to the top the next day Maggie got a big kiss on the nose.

There was one woman in our group who was so high on Valium I didn't know how she stayed in the saddle. She set the trip up for her husband, daughter and son in law.

Worse part for the wife was when we'd stop for a few minutes we were told to turn our mule so their head was facing out over the canyon edge. Reason, of the mule was startled by something they're instinct was to jump backwards.

Two helicopter tours over the Grand Canyon. Two helicopter tours over NYC (before they banned them).  Not too scary, when the Viet Cong aren’t shooting at you.

Loved the helicopter trip during our Alaska trip. Flew about 20 miles north and landed on an iceberg.  Only time. I sat in front and it was one of those bubble types.  I felt like a giant bug.

I hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. Tent camped. Hiked up the next day.  It was so hard.

Yes

I flew in dozens of helicopters while deployed. Would be flying, and then without warning, it would suddenly drop, and bank hard. Would be sitting sideways, looking ou the window and only see the ground. Nobody said anything, but we knew what was happening. The only time I heard rounds hitting the helicopter was during a detainee transfer, and we were lifting off from the base. The underside was getting lit up. None of the crew seems bothered, which helped me calm down.

The fact the helicopter was smaller, the Seats were more comfort, I had a headset where I could talk to my friends, and I was wearing shorts and a tshirt instead of camo, 10 lbs of body army, helmet, and armed to the teeth really helped make it a much more comfortable experience. ;D

You’re making my day love. I’ve been stuck in the small town since Monday and am horny as HELL.   Stopping to buy a shower buddy on the way back to Austin.

Gives new meaning to "Laying down suppression/ covering fire"

My buddy told me about the unit he was in, out of Polk, the "Dustoff" Apparently its an entire unit of insane helicopter pilots from either Korea or Vietnam who would go in to heavy fire to rescue soldiers. He also told me about his female sgt. who got off on firing the door guns, as she couldnt stand, as she was tall, so she sat with the gun resting the trigger handles right in her lap....I guess any scratch for the itch works.

I was waiting for some prescriptions to be filled yesterday at the VA. I was sitting close to another Vet, his wife and his PTSD therapy dog. The dog was staying close to him. Also the dog was smart. She kept her tail tucked under her...no way a wheelchair would run over that tail.

Well, when the Vet's prescription was ready he gave the dogs leash to the wife. Just as soon as he left the dog got up and moved over by me. Guess if her Vet wasn't around she'd come and give another old Vet some doggy love.  She was a sweetheart...I can see why dogs like that.help out people with PTSD.

After a massive work dump of the week, the office is officially closed. The next couple of weeks are open, and on Tuesday I leave on an upgrade of a cruise. Apparently they booked us on an overbooked cruise, so instead of going to Mexico we are going to the Caribbean. I was kind of sad until I learned I could possibly see the Bermuda Triangle. That would be cool.

While going through some things, I found my mom's memory album, where she stuck pictures and things.

Five ticket stubs were under the picture protecting plastic sheet. On the page, it said August 9, 1986.

I remembered that day..

August 9, 1986

It was hot. It was still summer in the duplex my parents lived in with their three children. The AC was busted so the windows were opened and fans placed in them strategically. My mom was very pregnant and very unhappy at sweltering in her nest. My dad had come home from his half day of work hanging garage doors and came in with his patent cheesy grin that said he was up to something as he set the bag from Bobes Hobby House. He spent his little bit of money on a new model rocket to work on. My mom was less than thrilled. Me and my brother were taking turns annoying my baby sister, who was trying to crawl. She would crawl towards me and my brothers final battle to end all battle of which was better, Transformers or GI Joe. My forces were lined up, and he had his army lined up and it was going to be a blood bath, until a massive drooling monster would try to get my brothers figures to nom on. So we would carry her back to her toys, and when the war started, she returns, so it became part of the battle to get rid of the invader.

My mom was still displeased, but then my dad was looking at his book, where he hid money.

"Alright!"

My dad had to holler over the tv, my mom grumbling, me and my siblings trying to war.

"Lets get them ready. Lets go chill out."

Fastest bath I ever had, and once cleaned and dressed we were in my dads old chevelle, tan, and cool. My dad checked the paper, and we made into the movie theater minutes before the commercials started, my mom almost made us late as she did her "not going to buy candy or drinks at the theater" thing, because even then they were pricey. Dad did not tell us what movie we were going to see, but the AC was nice, and that was all that mattered.

BUT...

My engine had ignition. The Transformers theme came on the screen and I vibrated so hard in my seat that I might have cause an earthquake elsewhere in the world. For the next two hours were like bliss. My mom passed out the moment she sat down, after giving everyone their drinks and snacks, and I just about lost it. I knew my mom and dad were not into Transformers like I was, with me threatening to run away to join Optimus Prime fight the bad guys. And my mom always telling me okay, but I could not cross the street or leave the side walk. It wasn't until later that I realized she basically trapped me to the block.

After the movie, my sister needed changing, my brother was hungry and I was a jackhammer walking and vibrating. The sun was going down, so the air cooled up a little, but my dad was hungry and tired from work so he took us out to dinner. To me it was a kings feast, but I was just happy. I mean, I got to see my hero's on the screen,  got my belly filled, and when the sun was gone, we drove home, where it was a bit cooler, with a note on the door stating that the repair guy fixed the AC, and my mom turned it down to 75. Man it was good to be alive right then.

I cried happy tears remembering that prized moment in time. My life was far from perfect , but in that one moment, the world was freakin sweet.

Sorry about the wall of text. Just wanted to share with you all why I am still smiling, looking at Optimus Prime, gen 1 still in box on my shelf.

Also, does anyone want a story updated before I leave for my cruise Tuesday? I also have one I can post that would be cool.

Years ago I dislocated my shoulder after being hit by a car.
When I'm stressed the tension moves to my neck. If it gets worse, it moves into my shoulder, and I believe the medical term, is that I'm fucked.

Today was the first time in probably 6 weeks that I wasn't in pain. It's wonderful

I don't know where I should post this. My ex's son received his doctorate. In a post he thanked a handful of people. I was one.

The thing that hurts, is that I was much closer to his sister. And even after all this time, I cannot begin to understand what my ex told her so that she would completely break off contact. And that fucking sucks

I have two children with two different exes. And both of them did everything they could to paint me out to be a horrible person and turn my child’s feelings against me. Fortunately, I did not respond in a similar manner, and ultimately both boys are closer to me now than their mothers.

I hope your stepdaughter will come to realize she is being manipulated. I am happy your stepson did not fall for that malarkey. He’s obviously intelligent. Congrats on the doctorate

My mother told me dad hated me. Blamed me for their separation. Multiple time she told me that he had said he wished I'd never been born, and he wanted a son and that's why he left. I was young and impressionable. She stayed when dad left so I believed everything. It was half way through highschool that I knew whole truth, and did some unspeakable things. Took me a while to try and reach my dad, she blocked me at every attempt. That's why I enlisted in the Army. A true get away from her and rebuild my relationship with my dad.

I hope as time goes by things will.change between you two. I have all the love in the world for my dad, and I hope for the same outcome between you two.

I heard from Jules today. She’s at the cabin with no internet connection.  But she says she can get a little cell phone signal down the road. Plans to be back next week.
