I was packing on a lot of weight before I switched diabetes doctors and my blood sugar was WAY out of control. The new doctor hated how much insulin I was injecting and asked if I was willing to try a new weekly shot. I’d be her first patient using it but she really thought it would help me all around. So now I’m less then a year she said I should be off insulin completely, my A1C is down and I lot a lot of weight. My goal was to loose 30lbs. I had past the 30 mark awhile ago but was now hoping to loose more. I always weigh myself Sunday mornings when I wake up and after the morning pee. So this morning I jumped on the scale and waited for it to think…….I have lost 47lbs as of this morning.
I’ve noticed over the last week that my gut is smaller and all my shirts at fitting loose. All my pants are falling off. Already had to get a 36 belt and I’m on the 4th hole on that now.
This has just made my day!!
Congrats, Eric. I'm a type 2 diabetic as well but have the opposite problem when it comes to weight. At one point 36 years ago, I weighed in at 205 pounds. I failed my military physical fitness test. So, they put me on mandatory PT 3 mornings per week. I was already playing hockey two or three times a week as well. In six weeks, I dropped 20 pounds, passed the fitness test all while eating like a horse. This was 9 years before my diabetes diagnosis.
I stayed between 180 and 185 pounds for what seemed like forever. In about 2006, the weight just started falling off. I was thinking it was the fact I wasn't eating as much because of problems I was having with my gall bladder. Well, the gall bladder came out in 2015 (it, when removed, was the size of a baseball - way too big). Now, I realize that my weight loss seemingly has nothing to do with anything. I'm currently at 1409sh and try as I might, I cannot gain the weight back. If the BMI chart is to be believed, I'm 22 pounds underweight. However, the amount of walking the Mrs and I do could be contributing that. And a high metabolic rate probably doesn't help.
As for what has made my day -- my fan club. Four blocks from where we live down here in La Paz is a children's clothing store. The lady who runs it has two girls aged 3 and 5. While mom works, abuela looks after the kids. It started a couple of months ago when the kids were out on the sidewalk riding their scooter. I made like I was trying to avoid them running me over. They played along and from there a friendship has developed. When they are at the store, they keep an eye out for us walking by. Yesterday was a very warm day. The door to the store was closed to keep the cool air inside. We walked by (on our way to do some day drinking) and were half a block away when we heard the little voices calling out behind us. We turned around and there were the kids waving at us in total glee. We had no choice but to go back and say hi and play with them for a few minutes. Makes my day every time we see the kids and we are quite sure it makes their day as well.
