After meeting some old friends yesterday, I did the grocery shopping and saw the grill I was lusting after a hundred bucks off.  So after dropping off the groceries I came back and got my father's day/birthday present, a new Traeger.

Great afternoon following morning full of running errands. My wife's niece stopped by for a quick visit. She's been in town many times over the years, but as we always had cats and she's very allergic we've been bypassed. Been busy over 30 years since wife has seen her. I've never met until now.

Niece had brought a nice bouquet of flowers. As we have no place to put them or a vase to put them in, we opted to give you them to neighbors up the street. The ones with two little girls and two dogs. The little girls were just home from camp and swimming. Still they were full of energy. Dogs gave me good licks, so brought home dog spit. :D

BTW, the male barks at every one who comes in... except me. Guess he knows dog friendly people. Puppy just loves everyone.

Wrapped things up with neighbor across the street stopping by with her two little girls. They were out for a walk and asked mom to stop here. When they first came by early this spring both girls were so shy they wouldn't even look up at us. Progress! :D

There was a combination smoker/grill I lusted after for years. About $1200. Once a year it would go on sale for $900, and I would always talk myself out of buying it. I guess I knew I would end up in a small apartment some day, with no place to put it.

That's one big reason I would never want to go back to an apartment again.  I've gotten pretty good at grilling and smoking, and my current setup is a Chargriller combo gas and charcoal grill with the attached woodbox.  What I don't like about, beside being over 300 pounds and 2 meters long is that smoking in it means babysitting the grill all day.  Using a charcoal base imparts a flavor I don't like, but using only wood makes such a fickle fire that I get huge swings every 15 minutes if I'm not careful.  Going to the Traeger should save me space, effort, and time.  I'm already planning a rib cook for Father's Day, and looking forward to getting crazy.  If I can make cheesecake in an InstantPot, I can make Mac and Cheese or Tuna Noodle Casserole in a smoker.

I feel these last few days I've been traveling all.over the state. Going places with my dad, and then I went to a birthday party for one of Allan's nieces, and yesterday I was out with my sister all day. Even though I was craving alone time I had such a blast with everything and everybody. Plus while at the birthday party I was loving on three doggos. A corgi and two chocolate labs 😍😍😍

I am however not going anywhere today. F anybody calls, "sorry my legs arent so good today." I picked up my Don Julio yesterday evening, and I'm gonna sit outside get some sun read one of my astrology books and magazines and work the help of margaritas, forget the world exists.

My brother has a huge piece of metal in his grill that radiates heat. I think its steel. It lays across under the grills, and he builds his fires under it and says it doesn't let direct heat get to the food but it will help maintain a more regular temperature... I dont know how much of that is true, but he is the best person at grilling and smoking that I know. He does however have a problem with peppers. He loves spicy, and he loves to add ghost peppers to food and has even made poppers with habanero  peppers.  I'm pretty sure all his recipes start with peppers.

We are in town for 48 hours, then going back up to the cottage.
The three girls and I are going to the Taylor Swift concert in Detroit tomorrow.
Dan is going into the Tigers game across the street.

We have a new houseguest. Neighbor pointed out there's a Robin's nest. It's on the connection where the drain from the roof connect's with the downspout. Will be keeping an eye out for little chick in the near future. :D

Also as neighbor was coming to tell me about it, she had a handful of fresh strawberries from her garden. As I gazed longingly at them and a bit of drool slid down my chin, she dumped them all getting my outstretched hand. Had a few in my cereal. 8)

Local kennel club has an annual dog run this weekend. Dozens of dogs of all breeds and ages register and then are timed in a 100 yard sprint. We have local vendors and sponsors all over the place and radio. It is an absolute blast.

Allan brought remi to visit, but she didn't do the run. He said she would run about half way get distracted by smells and then roll around in the grass. She then proceeded to prove him right by rolling around in the grass.

We had a pack of Bernese Mountain Dogs, and they swarmed around everybody trying to pet them. Say one little girl completely disappear amount the black brown and white fur. Looked like she was drowning in them. Last thing you see is her little hand being swallowed up. It was the funniest and cutest thing I saw the whole day. Despite their size, they were very gente even when excited, and she was perfectly fine.

It was kind of windy and cool with some scattered sprinkles unlike yesterday, sunny and 80s, so worry about heat injuries for any dogs was very low we still had the water misters and kiddy pool all set up for them.

Tomorrow is the last day of the fun. supposed to be extremely windy.

I made a Nespresso this morning, crawled back into bed to read the news and do my puzzles and card games. Sasha send me a Viber message and I spent two delicious hours just sexting and talking really dirty with my favorite Russian. She is just so nasty, she makes me feel almost normal. LOL. Made my day. Didn’t get up until 2 in the afternoon. I made a shrimp salad with mozzarella, tomatoes, and avocado. It was a good day. Didn’t have to use my AK…

We just got back from the concert. It was amazing. I love Taylor Swift.  So many cute outfits, including what the girls were wearing.  Lots of glitter, sequins, and sparkles

She is such a great entertainer.  The show was crazy good.

Waiting for the washer to run a load of towels, will get them in the dryer and then get to bed.

I missed everyone.  We are leaving for the cottage about noon, so I likely won't be back on until maybe July.  Love you all.

I was packing on a lot of weight before I switched diabetes doctors and my blood sugar was WAY out of control.  The new doctor hated how much insulin I was injecting and asked if I was willing to try a new weekly shot. I’d be her first patient using it but she really thought it would help me all around. So now I’m less then a year she said I should be off insulin completely, my A1C is down and I lot a lot of weight. My goal was to loose 30lbs. I had past the 30 mark awhile ago but was now hoping to loose more. I always weigh myself Sunday mornings when I wake up and after the morning pee. So this morning I jumped on the scale and waited for it to think…….I have lost 47lbs as of this morning.
I’ve noticed over the last week that my gut is smaller and all my shirts at fitting loose. All my pants are falling off. Already had to get a 36 belt and I’m on the 4th hole on that now.
This has just made my day!!

Congratulations Coach...to you and your Doc.

As an older fella my doctor keeps giving me a higher range for my blood sugar levels.  I also had a steroid injection last week which has really caused my levels to soar, so I need to add a few more units of insulin until that settles down.

Funny, she told me about the same thing. Since I’m older my range is higher. Told me to stop looking at the averages and don’t worry when I ge the odd spike. Her thing is no more lows and only the odd high.

I went down to the neighborhood ice cream parlor this afternoon and enjoyed a cold shake. This place is near a public pool and crazy busy on a hot afternoon. So there was a parade of people going through the line… young, old, everything in between. Lots of bikinis and crop tops. A few camel toes. Young lovers. Old married couples. I just enjoyed observing the crazy diversity and sameness of life. I have been many of the people I saw today, and someday, many of them will be me.

Yesterday we attended a party thrown by friends. They have over ten acres an hour out of town on a river. When they bought the land it was overgrown with brush and trees. Over the last few years they've cleared all the brush and thinned out a lot of trees. It now looks like a park.

Lots of food to snack on as we all chatted. Some of the people we hadn't seen for year or more. The house they built features a porch that wraps around three sides of the house.  A ways away, down by the river was a fire where smores were being made. I enjoyed one of the gooey delights.

A new addition this year was a  pair of Pygmy Goats. They were playful and fun to watch.

There were also five or six baby chicks. They were just starting to get their feathers. Sadly last winter something got into the chicken coop and killed their other chickens. No fresh eggs for awhile.

After three hours of conversation, food, strolling  the grounds we headed the car back up the freeway to home. A great What made my day.

My entire apartment smells like a bakery. I have been baking breads and pastries all afternoon. Getting the timing down was more difficult than I thought but only lost one batch of potato buns because I killed the yeast. Everything turned out perfectly.

Why am I baking all this? Certainly wasn't planned, but I was thinking about having lasagna for dinner, and then I thought about making breadsticks, and then I opened my cookbook and the recipies just started jumping out at me. I now have zero flour, and yeast in my kitchen, and my counter top is filled with buns, breads, cookies, turnovers, cinnamon rolls, and apple cinnamon pinwheels. I'm not cooking lasagna tonight, think I'll order delivery, LoL

So last weekend. I mentioned th I was at a local kennel club during a dog run. On the last day it was going on, we had an incident with one of the dogs. A dog ended up sliding and crashing through the plastic snow barrier at the end of the run. What happened was the man controling the "rabbit" which is basically a dog toy with white cloth tied to it and pulled by a cord, failed to stop it soon enough and the dog chased it right to the end. There is generally a lot of space from the finish line to the end of the run, but since the rabbit kept going, so did the dog. When asked, what happened, he said the trigger got stuck and it kept going. I thought he wasn't paying attention and watching the dogs. Turns out he did have a problem when it nearly happened two more times later in the day.

Now normally it wouldnt be too bad, but the dog that had the accident was a Whippet. If you don't know a whipper, they are like greyhounds but smaller. Most dogs that ran were around 20 to 25 MPH. That's bad if they fall. Imagine taking a tumble traveling at 25 mph.

Anyways this whippet named Moxi, I friggin love that name, hot 32 MPH.... 32!! And then crashed. That's why I thought the guy wasnt paying attention. Anyways, she got up and started moving around pretty good and disnt seem hurt at all. Now another disappointment part was after all that, the clock people didnt get the time... so she had to run again. We asked the woman if she wanted us to give her a quick look over, but she said no. Walked back to the start line and then Moxi did the run again. She still hit 32 MPH, and the ribbit stopped this time, but after the run, she was limping on her back leg. We asked again if she wanted us to take a look, and she declined. She did come back about 20 minutes later and Moxi had a very obvious limp. After a quick feel she didnt painfully react to any pressure and it all seemed ok, but without an xray we couldnt be sure. We provided some pain relief and she said she'll take her into her vet tomorrow.

Anyways, I got a message from my coworker who had a friend at the kennel club, and it turned out it was a light sprain, and she'll be back running in no time. Moxi's got alotta moxie

If Moxie was on here, I'd give her a big WOO.  Dang owner should have had her checked when it was first offered. Rabbit guy needs to run a few laps...with a Doberman chasing him.

Whippets and Greyhounds always look so fragile too me.
