What MADE your day today?

Friday the 13th was good to me. Good day in court. Good news on my big case. Good news on my employment opportunity with a new firm.  It involves a move (hate) but more money (love) and benefits (BIG O).

Moving and switching jobs is stressful, but it sounds worth it.

Lately I’ve been contemplating how my job has gotten exponentially more difficult yet I’ve also been told that I’ve topped out in my position both in salary and level.

Jed I get the impression that we are of a similar age. And my problem is, I have definitely topped out in my career. So I really need to learn how to be more humble, keep my fucking mouth shut, and don’t let the little millennial idiots fuck with my head. I’ve had a difficult time just staying below the radar, and not not pointing out how “wrong“ everyone else is doing things. I think we have to recognize the 21st-century will be characterized by diminished skills, intelligence, training, etc. People just don’t give a shit anymore. There’s no loyalty to the organization. And it keeps everything very fluid. I’ve got about 10 more years in the labor pool, and I really hope this next job will be my last one. I’ve been speaking to my kids about this subject. And hopefully if they see dad complaining too much, or acting like an asshole, they’ll help me nip it in the bud.

I think we’re both 59.

I was advised by my last boss to switch groups due to topping out at my current job.  But I like what I’m doing and getting increasingly better at it.  And I’m still learning so much.  It’s just a little frustrating knowing I can’t advance despite all that.

My one drawback is I was never good with some of the software.  I can learn it, but takes so fucking long and then it changes anyways.  For our group, that meticulous grunt work.  My last boss understood it wasn’t my strong suit, so had me do all the reports that some hate.  I can write, so I never minded that.

Went for a short and slow one mile jog this morning, not stumbles or falls. I wasnt going to try until tomorrow, but things have turned around alot quicker than I thought they would. I havent missed two days of work for this in quite a while, usuallynits just one day and then I'm back. Anyways, back at work today, and then I'm off to my dad's house to throw pillows at his big fat head. He sent me some pretty mean (joking) texts saying it was my fault the packers lost their first game. I didn't even know they were playing.

Is it weird that even though we're nearly 40 and 70, that we act like children sometimes?

I read about Sir and Toe and their jobs, and all I can say is I friggin LOVE my job. Sure I don't make tons of money, I currently work weekends, and there are some really Heart breaking days, but for the most part, this job is perfect.

I saw Warren Zevon do that song in a small brew pub about 25 years ago.  He was a little pissed he was playing in a small brew pub.  You could tell he thought the venue was bigger when booked.  He played well though, despite his sarcastic comments between songs like ‘Maybe one day Alanis Morissette will have to play a brew pub.’
