This didn't happen today but last night.

I called a friend who I hadn't spoken with in years.  I thought I had pretty well burned a bridge with this person and it turned out, not so much!  It was a great call and great reconnecting!

I spent a happy 15 minutes leading two telephone scammers up a dead end.

Her: Amazon here, we have discovered a fraudulent purchase of a gift card on your Amazon account and would like to help you recover the charge.
Me: I'm sorry this is a bad line could you repeat that
Her: repeats the above
Me: Sorry, I don't really understand what has gone on
Her (getting a bit irritated): repeats the above
Me: Oh, now I understand, that really is very helpful of you. Of course I would like to claim a refund
Her: Let me pass you over to my supervisor
Him: repeats fictitious details of transaction and even gives a plausible address in London where the fraud was supposed to have taken place.
Me: How do I reclaim the money
Him: What device are you using
Me (without being anywhere near a computer): A PC
Him: Can you open google
Me (ditto): Yes
Him: Now type in show my ip
Me: Ok, done that
Him: what does it say on the screen?
Me: A rather strange message has appeared on the screen
Him: What does it say.
Me: Are you sure you want me to read it to you?
Him: Yes
Me: Are you really sure?
Him (getting slightly annoyed): Yes, I am sure
Me: Are you really, really sure.
Him (now very annoyed): Yes, read it to me.
Me: It says - tell that stupid cunt on the other end of the phone to fuck off to the far side of fuck knows where
Me: Hello, hello, please don't hang up ..........

Had our Friday night get together with friends. Started at a fifties type greasy spoon with burgers and a malt.

Big surprise was one friend showed up with a few books on military aircraft. A few weeks ago I went to an air show featuring a bunch of WWII aircraft. My ticket was good for both days, but I was satisfied with the right hours and 1000 photos I took.

Wife remembered seeing one friend's eyes light up when I mentioned I was going. So we called him up and asked if he wanted my ticket for Sunday..he was at our house a half hour later. He had a great time.

So when a friend was downsizing some possessions, he grabbed the books for me. Sweet guy.

Moving and switching jobs is stressful, but it sounds worth it.

Lately I’ve been contemplating how my job has gotten exponentially more difficult yet I’ve also been told that I’ve topped out in my position both in salary and level.

Wait, you mean, that in terms of salary, you’re at the top of the ladder in your position(as far as possible), yet your work-difficulty hasn’t stopped increasing / is still increasing, then dude, I think you should still apply for a raise appropriate to your current workload.

Really appreciate everybodies well wishes. I'm doing much better today. Migraines are gone and I'm walking much more steady. My feet still drag a bit, but that'll pass too. Feels like I'm walking through waist deep water, but it's better than crawling.😁

Jed I get the impression that we are of a similar age. And my problem is, I have definitely topped out in my career. So I really need to learn how to be more humble, keep my fucking mouth shut, and don’t let the little millennial idiots fuck with my head. I’ve had a difficult time just staying below the radar, and not not pointing out how “wrong“ everyone else is doing things. I think we have to recognize the 21st-century will be characterized by diminished skills, intelligence, training, etc. People just don’t give a shit anymore. There’s no loyalty to the organization. And it keeps everything very fluid. I’ve got about 10 more years in the labor pool, and I really hope this next job will be my last one. I’ve been speaking to my kids about this subject. And hopefully if they see dad complaining too much, or acting like an asshole, they’ll help me nip it in the bud.
