Nice trip toy favorite wildlife area. Cloudy day so have to see how my photos turned out. Saw first two Loons of the season. Hope they're a pair and we'll have little Loons later.

Finished the day with a cheese run. It was all yummy! ;D

Reading MJ's "back in the saddle" thread.

Princess, would you like to see it light up and hum when I wave it about

An uneasy thing transpired the last couple of days.  That 'threat' is poof.

Also, I got my teeth cleaned today.   Love the silky smooth surface after visiting my dental hygienist.

OH, and more importantly....
The kids are back in the house after Dan's recovery.   Missed their 24/7 presence so much.

Up Close With Nature

Yep...yesterday I made it out again to get up close with nature. By up close, I mean with my 500 mm lens on my camera. The wildlife area was busier than I expected. A lot of the birds are busy nesting now. Still a lot out on the various flowages I drove by. Here's a few samples.

My favorite...the Trumpeter Swans.

There's so many swans now. A fantastic success story when you consider they had been hunted to extinction levels and there were  none in the lower 48 states by 1960s.  A flock was discovered in a remote area of Alaska. Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan sent people there to bring back fertilized eggs. These were hatched, the cygnets raised without human contact and the birds were released into wetlands. Crex Meadows was one of the locations Wisconsin used. The restoration was so successful the Trumpeter Swans have been taken of the endangered list and are spreading to other parts of the U.S.

Above, a pair of Ring-necked Ducks. Yes, neck, not bill. You have to look close, but there is a cinnamon colored ring around the male's neck. It was cloudy, so it doesn't show up in the pic very well.

Didn't see more the a few Sandhill Cranes. Hope that means most are nesting and will soon have some colts (Sandhill chicks) running around the refuge. I saw one once. They keep the young deep in the refuge until they start to fly. Even a friend who lives in the area and goes out everyday has seldom seen the colts when they're small.

Saw my first pair of Loons. Fantastic diving bird...can stay underwater for quite a while. Hardest bird to photograph. If it's a bright day, the white spots get "blown out" over exposed. If cloudy, like in the above pic, you don't see the bright red eye and the teal band on the neck. Played around in Photoshop so you can see that...if you use your imagination. :D

A number of American Coots. No, they're not a duck. They have fat toes and are heavy bodied.  They actually have to run on the surface of the water to get enough speed to take off. I have a few pictures where you can see the splashes behind them as they're running.

I'm glad that has sorted itself out for you.

Up Close With Nature

I always always always enjoy your beautiful photos you take with such talent.  Very beautiful.

And of course, cheese runs always a good thing.

Had a sudden invite to a Los Banditos where I had a few margaritas and a Sonora salad with portabella caps. Had a blast even though it was quick.

Now I'm back home and my clothes feel like they're so close to falling off

Finally got a vehicle.  I have been bumming rides, and paying others, for almost three months.

I still have this 3,300 lb. paper weight in my driveway that I can’t dispose of, because of a lien.  I hope the bank will come pick it up.

Nice time yesterday with friends. One couple has a place an hour from us. On the Canon River. New house with wide wrap around deck. A few other friends also came down.

We sat on the deck watching geese on the river and chatting. At one point, one of Watcher's clan swooped past, just a few feet above the river. Beautiful bird! Capped a great day!

You never know. One day, preferably a Monday, it could be Watcher himself swooping down on you.  8) 8)

Went to a concert yesterday. First one since the pandemic, and my god how I've missed live music. Not only was itive, but it was one of my favorite bands playing as well. It was outside so we were told to dress warm and bring blankets. They sold seats in "pods" of four and six, so even though there was five of us we had to buy a sixth seat. Didnt care we wre going to a concert.

The warm up band was a local group from Appleton called Doozey. They were a more alternative group. Had a sound relatively close to bands like Simple Plan, or Blink 182. They were fun and energetic but we missed their first two songs because we got there a little late.

The second opening act was a group called Goodbye June which I thought was ironic because I want to say Goodbye May, Hello June.  Anyways, this band had a more classic rock vibe and I could easily associate them with the likes of AC/DC. the music they played demanded that you to at the very least tap your feet. I couldn't sit still and I was up moving and dancing in our little taped off section.

When the band Badflower came out I nearly lost my mind. This alternative rock group is simply amazing. Their album Ok,I'm Sick hit me on a level that no other band has. Their songs like Jester and Ghost struck me to my core. Hearing them play those live had me nearly dizzy with emotions. Not sue if anybody has ever felt like that, or you become so engrossed in the music, you almost get like tunnel vision, where the only thing I can see clearly is the stage. I don't know maybe I'm weird, music just has that magical affect on me.

It was a fantastic experience that I needed to pull me from a recent funk of depression I've been in lately, and eith today being mother's day and all that happened... I'm in a really good place right now😎👍

Love you all :emot_kiss:

Oh, and For those of you who may be interested, they also have an anti-trump song called Die
