Last couple years our Minnesota spring was a no-show. I've been looking forward to getting out and photographing the spring migration as the birds return to my favorite wildlife refuge.
When the MN Governor announced a state lock down Wednesday, I told the wife I was heading out before I got locked down. I was pleased to see outdoor activities are allowed, so I'll be free to hit the road, armed with camera and lenses to greet the little birdies...well not so little. Sandhill
Cranes are nearly 5 feet tall and Trumpeter Swans largest waterfowl in North America.
Most the ponds and lakes still frozen over, but many birds like Geese and Swans are staking out nesting areas. This is the earliest I've seen the Sandhills return. I saw a lot, but most were too far off the road for good photos. I was really surprised by the number of Bald Eagles I saw, most flying in groups of two or three. I'm thinking many are migrants who are on their way to nesting grounds further north.
