Went to my monthly photo club meeting this morning. Wife was worried as there is a long walk uphill to the visitor center. I told her that the toughest part was going downhill after the meeting.
One of the members gave a presentation from his visit to British Columbia's Great Bear Rainforest. He had quite a trip. They started from Vancouver and took float plane up the coast where they met their boat. It was 53 feet long and 15 foot beam.
They had luxury cabins and a on board cook provided five-star meals. The boat took them further up the coast and they visited the many inlets that made up the coastline.
At each inlet the group boarded a Zodiac, a small rubber board with a solid wood floor. They went close to the coast and spotted lots of bears getting good photos.
The photos were great and with a zoom lens they were up close and personal. A challenge was the bears eyes are the same color as their fur. He had to get the light just right in order to get a good photo. The scenery with the mountains in the background was spectacular too.
Water was calm in the inlets as there were many islands acting as breakwaters. One unprotected inlet had swells of 4 to 5 feet. That was bumpy but there were Orcas playing and jumping high out of the water. Again good photos as he hung onto the railing with one arm and the camera in his other hand. All while turning green.
It was one of the more impressive presentations we've had in a long time. It will be a tough act to follow for the next presenter. Oh... that will be me. I'll be talking about the North American Bison 🦬. Maybe I should include a Bison tossing someone in the air. There's lots on line now.
