I'm a couple days behind on this. Visiting family is keeping us busy.

Was over talking to our neighbor Monday. She informed me that she and her partner got married on Friday. They've been living next to us for over 20 years and I don't know how long they were together before moving here.

This is the wonder couple who shovel our snow, mow our lawn and offer to help out however else they can. I picked up a congratulations card and a gift card for a nearby restaurant I know they like.

They came over last night and we were able to present it to them. As a bonus they brought their dogs along so wife and I got a "fur fix".  :D

I don't know how anyone could ask for nicer neighbors.

While sitting out front with them other neighbors from across the street pulling up and started unloading suitcases. Just back from two weeks in Portugal. I admire their courage...they have two preschoolers. Had to be an experience traveling with them.

Great to be back in more regular contact, especially hearing Bob's lovely family and friends news.

Baked  an Apple Pie today, came out pretty good. Apartment smells like Cinnamon

I love the results of baking. This simple statement made me think I could smell it myself, and has given me the baking bug.

I'm going to need more flour.

Picked an ice cream pale full of fresh raspberries yesterday. Was surprised to get so many, usually not ready to pick for another week. So raspberry torte, and popovers. Puff pastry the only thing I'll buy instead of bake myself

Heading to Shiela's for raspberry pastries. Just goes to show ya... she not only can feed a hungry growler, she can help satisfy a sweet tooth.

Ok, I know you guys are getting tired of hearing about my daughter being in town so I won't talk about her today.

I won't tell you we hit the road for my favorite Wisconsin cheese store. No mention will be made about us having a good lunch or that we went to the visitor center for my favorite wildlife area. Who here would care that we loaded up on great cheese and then headed back to Minneapolis. Naw, who wants to to hear about all that stuff. :emot_laughing:

For those in the know, this was a totally different type of cheese run.

A legit, meatless cheese run.

If you want Amy of the baked goods, you'll have to go to my dad's, brother's, or sister's home. I gave it all away.

Who is this “Amy of the baked goods” of whom you speak? And may I find her at your father’s?

I was playing around with Google Bard, seeing how it would respond to vague questions to which I already knew the answers, and could therefore spot hallucinations.

I asked Bard if a major American rock group ever played at a minor London college. I expected an answer along the lines of "The books I have consulted have no information about such a concert, but . . ." and then some marginally relevant info.

Instead Bard not only told me the date of the concert, but also told me it had been the highlight of the tour, and provided links to a set list and a live recording.

I was stunned. I had no idea someone had bothered to preserve the set list (the band's manager, maybe) and I definitely don't remember any recording equipment. I arranged the concert, booked the group, and ran around making sure everything was going smoothly. I'm convinced I would have spotted a recording truck parked outside, or a mixing console set up in the hall.

I was further stunned when I discovered that, yes, there is a recording of that concert. I ordered a copy of the CD and can't wait to listen to it. Even if the audio quality is bad, I'll have the satisfaction of knowing that I was there, and made it happen.

Happy Hilda

Again Hilda shared another interesting story. You could write a book. Must have had quite a life.
Is there a reason you left out the band's name?
This gets you another WOO.

In my salad days I was news director at a small radio station in northern Minnesota. I got to meet a lot of interesting people, mostly politicians. I most enjoyed Alex Haley, author of "Roots".

He was touring colleges to earn money as he finished that book. He related how he was able to go to Africa and discovered the tribe his original ancestor came from. What a tale.

Daughter will be here in a couple hours to take me to a medical appointment. We've had such a good time this visit. They've stayed for nearly a month but sadly will be heading home Wednesday.

Even though a lot of our time was at Doctor appointments it was still time together. The extra time we've had together makes their leaving that much harder. :'(

Still I have a couple more days to enjoy my wonderful daughter. Then I get to count the days for when they come back in November. :D

While we travel across the Canadian cost of Lake Superior, I have had some cell service.   We are back to the cottage in 2 weeks and will be without again. So, I will be offline most of August.

How very odd that we ran into some acquaintances from our home city today, also doing a circle tour of Lake Superior.  Small world.

Ah... the Circle Tour. One of my unmet wishes. Enjoy the trip for me. My chances of ever doing it would be impossible. I'd have to stop by every lighthouse on the way. And there's bunches.

Glad you're enjoying your time away from us. Much as I'm happy for you,.I miss you. Hurry back to us Madam Sheriff. :emot_kiss:

The Michigan/US side is great.  The Ontario coast, not so much.  Most things closed.  No boat tours, most businesses closed.  Covid put a hurtin' on it.   We just arrived in  Thunder Bay, we just saw the first traffic light in two weeks (since Sault St Marie).  We enjoyed the Canadian shore of Lake Superior , but not as much as we thought we would. Restaurants were absolute sh*t.  A ban on campfires because of all the fires. Very underwhelmed with this trip. We did hike a lot and made the best of it.
