A long overdue eye appointment. The exam was done by a Dr. Molar.

I couldn't help but chuckle and asked, "Shouldn't you have been a dentist instead of an optometrist?"

She smiled and said, "Probably not. My first name is Candy."

When I went next door to the optical center to order new contacts (the old-fashioned, non-disposable kind) the clerk there looked at the prescription and said there was a measurement that had been 43 the last time and was now 47 and she wondered if there had been a mistake.

Sure enough a call to the office revealed a typo. What was supposed to be 42.75 was typed as 47.25, with the 2 and 7 transposed. She got off the phone and did a little happy dance that she had saved me two weeks for not having to reorder later. It was adorable. I gave her a high five.

She even let me use my wife's credit card to pay, since mine had been cancelled the day before when I found 3 fraudulent charges on it, but that's a story for another thread.

So nominative determinism doesn't always work  ;D

I hardly expect anyone to believe this but at my local hospital there was a urologist called Dr. Dick (family name, not first name)

Princess, would you like to see it light up and hum when I wave it about

I learned over the weekend that one of my Ukrainian families were being evicted from their home. It was sold to a refugee family from Kyiv, and they were cast out on the street. Six children, mother, and invalid grandmother.

What made my day is I did an online appeal for donations for the family, and quickly raised several thousand dollars. We found a house that has been empty for a long time, and is in serious need of repair. But there were contractors on the property this morning, restoring water service to the house.

This will be the first time the family has had running water. And it also will be the first time that my foster daughter has had a bedroom. Six children had been sleeping on two couches, stacked like cord wood. I think this will end up being a positive development for them. Feeling good.

All your work on behalf of your Ukrainian friends is always so heartwarming. As I read of the horror that continues on there it's so good to hear of good things happening..

Thanks for your good work.

My day continues to be made, due to the generosity and compassion of my friends and associates.

Donations came in so quickly that we had plumbers on site today, laying a new water line, and hooking up to the “new” house.  This family has never had running water or indoor plumbing. They heated water from a well on their wood burning stove and bathed in a tin wash basin.  Of course, an outdoor privy, no matter the weather.

We are starting on roof, wall and floor repairs tomorrow. I have even had inquiries about buying them a new kitchen. It’s a good day.

What made our day down here in La Paz --- effective tomorrow, the Covid traffic light system and masking in crowded outdoor spaces is being cancelled. Not that we have been wearing a mask outdoors anyways (last night's 487 anniversary of the founding of La Paz being an exception - very crowded). That fact that we leave here 5 days from tomorrow makes it kinda anti-climactic. But still, it's wonderful to know that Mexico is easing towards Covid being endemic and not going away.

That is all.

Past two weeks I've been taking 20 mg clonazepam to help with my anxiety. Twice my prescribed dosage, and it really didn't seem to do much but make me very tired and made it hard for me to focus and I felt even more uncoordinated than usual. They also boost the "better off dead" thoughts which obviously doesn't help at all either. I know I've said it before, but why do drugs designed to help with anxiety make you think about suicide so friggin much... seems mighty counter productive.

Anyways. So far today I don't feel I need it. Granted the day just started but things have been going decent so far. Maybe, just maybe I'm through this thing.

Water lines installed and family now has running water. Trip to the building supply center tomorrow to buy cement, drywall, roofing, wallpaper etc.  The general contractor has been hired.  They call him the “Master” in Ukrainian. Master indeed. So happy.

That is so nice to hear.  :D

That pure country and its people will be scared for decades to come.  :'(

I travel some in former Yugoslavia and often see deserted villages and bullet holes in houses.  :o

Now to some good news.

Soon we might know all about the mysterius Mister Asm....

I knew Bella was in bed, playing with my laptop, checking KB, and trying to be funny I sent her a PM saying: "Breakfast is ready"

Only problem was that I accidently sent it To Asm.... instead.

Loved Bella's answer when I told her about it, though, "I hope he brings Danish." ;D

Well, I can ask, should he respond.
