Just found out that Amazon prime is doing an adaptation of The Wheel of Time. This series is the one that introduced me to fantasy fiction, and I extremely enjoyed it. Normally I do not like movie and tv adaptions, but watching the trailer, I actually got chills, and the girls perked up. I think I'm going to give this one a watch.

I'm happy because it's Friday  ;D

..and now I'll probably have someone mention me in What Ruined Your Day for posting that song  :emot_laughing:

The only Friday song.  We call it “the Friday song.”

Daughter from upstate New York called this morning. They were on the road headed this way for a visit. Been two years!

They were planning on leaving Wednesday, but took off today instead. Be here tomorrow afternoon. Just a little 1500 mile jaunt.

Daughter and cat were in the back seat. Guess their little dog called shotgun first, so she got to sit up front. :D

Was an absolutely fantastic day for me. Had a really easy and fun day at work, and then it was off to my dad's for his little get together with friends, and family. Last might I had made a huge tray of stuffed mushroom, deviled eggs, and a cucumber salad. I felt back because I hadn't gotten there as early as I had hoped, but everybody seemed quite pleased with what I brought.

Had plenty of great conversation and excellent drinks. There was about 3 dozen people there, and from what I could tell, everybody was having a great time. One of my dad's neighbors even tried to hook me up with her son who, by the way, looks around my age, is very handsome and tall, but he's put on a little weight lately but otherwise very active and social. He's quite financially stable, and has a great sense of humor... at least that's what she told me.

The party wrapped up nicely around 6 and everybody was pretty much gone by 6:30. Jen was there and was doing great, and since my dad had helped her out so much, she volunteered to clean everything up. I stayed for a bit and helped out, but Jason and his kids did most of the heavy work and cleaning. We had it all pretty much done by the time I left.

Hope everybody had a great labor day  :emot_kiss:

Just had a really wild ride (metaphorical, lol) in the last 24 hours, though the end was a good one.

Yesterday we took our moms on the Cass Scenic RR in Cass, WV, a 4.5 hour round trip.  I found the pic on Imgur, but it happened to be the same engine that took us up to Bald Knob at 4000 feet, one of 5 steam engines at Cass.  I did this as a kid over 50 years ago, so retracing some life steps.

Trains don’t normally climb mountains, but the Shays did a hundred years ago.  And, they still do.

It was really cool.

We passed the old ghost town of Spruce WV, abandoned about as long as I’ve been alive, and was dying before that since the 1920s.  When it was occupied, Spruce was the highest town in elevation east of the Mississippi.  It could only be reached by rail.  It was also the original site of the West Virginia Pulp and Paper Company before it moved to MD and my grandfather worked there.

That sounds like a wonderful time.  I want to go on a train tour in the U.P. of Michigan.

There is a similar railroad on Mount Washington in NH called the Cog Railway.  Trains that are designed to go up mountains are a special breed.

I’m still debating doing that.  I’ll be at Mt Washington in less than a month.  You can drive to the top too.  And there’s a scenic railroad in Conway NH, might just do that one.

This past weekend and the cog railway in NH are not cheap, $75 per person.  That adds up if paying for multiple people.

There's old steam engine trains running in the Black Hills. Great ride through the scenic mountains.

I leaned out the window to get a photo of the engine as the train went around a curve.

Steam engines...so noisy, smokey, and stinky, compared to modern engines. Yet I still love 'em. Brings back the romance of those early days when rails connected the country.

I've done the Conway trains in the past.  It was fun.

WOO!  Love the photo. Best train ride I have been on was Amtrak going through the Sierra Nevadas and the Rocky Mountains. Spectacular scenery.
