I have a good excuse for not keeping up in the newsgroups as I have been keeping up with writing more smut for y'all.

Yesterday evening I was hired for a lucrative year-long consulting gig. So that's a good day.

A couple of weeks ago, I closed a financial deal for the company I founded in 2011. It basically gave all the original investors, including me, a substantial dividend. My share is enough to pay my expenses for the next several years.

So when it rains, it pours. What's next, am I going to sprout wings?

Congratulations. I have a mediation date coming up, that should generate enough money to cover the bills for the rest of the year. I’m pretty excited about it. Because I need some money for a few other things, including the foster kids. So it’s all good news. I certainly know how you feel, and I couldn’t be happier for you.

Couldn't be happier right now for you sweetums.  If I remember correctly, you were going through some ups and downs with some startups. Makes me happy to here that your efforts have paid off.  Woo to your success and a Woo for Toe as well.

Thanks, Toe. It's almost too much work, as it'll be hard for me to put in the time it will require, but it's only a year. Soon, I'm hoping to pass the patent bar and become a patent agent. I can easily build that into a business where I'm working about half time in the longer term. That will leave more time for writing...

Yes, about a decade on the original idea and another decade on the startup. All good fun, though. There's nothing better than getting paid to work on your own invention.

Best thing about the financial deal is that we get to have our cake and eat it too. Our position in the restructured company remains the same.

BTW... that's an Australian eagle. Watcher's cousin.

Since I spent a very productive week Down Under some time ago, there may be an eagle or two with my DNA flying around Sydney.  8) 8)

Friends came and picked me up last night and we headed put to Door County. We got to fish creek and stopped at Not Licked Yet frozen custard where I got a strawberry banana split and we sat eating catching up and feeding ducks. We used to do this all the time, and the with covid we only hung out once at the bar when they local band played.  It felt good to be out doing something that we used to do all the time again.

After the the frozen custard shop we headed over to the Skyway drive-in to watch the double feature they had there. It's always 2 movies, and it always seems thatbits the second movie that I'm more interested in, which is completely fine because it just gives us more time to chat and catch up on things.

After the 2nd movie ended it was about 1:00 in the morning and we didnt feel like driving all those hours, so what happens is we always find an open hotel that's as close to the theater as we can and we split the cost between us. I always let them.have the bed and I take the couch because I'm never the one driving out or back, so their sleep is more important.

Anyways, got up earlier than I thought we would, they split the drive between them and I just got home and out I'd the shower.  Had an absolute blast.

That was a Woo worthy evening.  Much better than mine.  Checking on a brisket every few hours.

That's what my dad is doing today. He said he was getting up at 5:00 a.m. to start cooking dinner. He will spend the entire day on his deck tending to his grill.  He moves everything outside. Has a small butcher clock on wheels that he hauls everything he needs to keep cooking, and plugs in a mini fridge.  He will either listen to the radio, or bring out a tv, which he always complains about the cords. I think that is way too much work seeing as the kitchen is like 10 feet away. But that's his tradition and he loves it.  My family usually starts showing up there around noon and when he takes the roast out,it just falls apart at the touch.  No knives or forks needed. Drenches it in his BBQ sauce and it's ready to eat.

Low and slow.  About 15 hours at 250° is ideal.

15 hours? Holy crap. It's usually done at 6:00 pm, so I'm not sure what he all does, unless he gets it on the grill at 5:00 and he's up earlier. I dont know, but I'm glad I'm not doing it.  :emot_laughing:

It’s been a few years since I’ve done a brisket, but a pork butt or pork picnic (prefer the picnic) I smoke about 6 hours in the evening @ ~225F usually while drinking bourbon, then foil wrap and place in the oven at 200F over night or about 12 more hours.  The internal temperature matches the oven temperature at that point.  My new family doesn’t eat much pork unfortunately, so maybe I need to do a brisket.

11.5 lbs. About 5 kg.  Turned out perfect. I made homemade potato salad, coleslaw, and creamed corn also. Enough food for a whole bunch of people. We will be eating this for a long time.

He's cooking pork. Then he has asparagus for days on the edge of his property that he collects, and then we have potatoes and sweet corn on the grill.

Every 4th of July, we attended a pig roast out on the farm of a distant relative. The men dug a pit and were up all night slow cooking the pig.  The meat just melted in your mouth. The men were drunk. Everyone brought a side and we ate under huge trees. Those were fun times.

Always slow cook meat. Sear it to retain the juices, then lower the heat. Mmmmm

Met with former neighbors for informal picnic get together.

They'd lived next door, ending up having three girls. Got to watch them grow for several years. In the summer they'd come over and wife would play with them.

Out grew the house and bought a bigger one out in one of the burbs. They'd still stop by and visit occasionally. Then this Christmas got their card and they were now in Colorado.

Got an evite for tonights gathering. They left so quick and with Covid didn't get to say goodbye. So this was their good bye party.

Girls have gotten so big. Had fun and got to say farewell.
