After being with Dan for 2 years, he still surprises me at times.
We went on a 5 mile run. We were walking the last 1/2 mile to cool down. Some girls were in a neighboring yard, we found out they were practicing stunting for their cheer leading squad. So, Dan sees one of the girls attempting a back flip. She landed on the tips of her toes and then falls to her hands and knees. Dan suggests she try to tuck her knees a little tighter to her chest. The girls all spin and look at this stranger talking to them. Because I'm there, it put them at ease. Plus one of the girls parents was sitting on the front porch. Dan repeats what he said and then said, "Watch me." And he turns to the side for the girls to watch. "Watch my knees, go to my chest."
I say, "You're not seriously going to do this."
The girls all look at me because of my speech.
"Girls," Dan says, "Watch my arms hold my knees tight to my chest. Eyes on me."
And he jumps up in the air and flips over backward and lands on his feet.
Why did I not know he could do this?
I'm looking at him. The girls are looking at him. The mom on the porch says, "Well I'm impressed."
Dan asks mom if he can spot one of the girls and have her try again. Mom says sure. Dan steps up to the girl and stands beside her and tells her to try it. 4 more attempts and a few corrections and the girl did a back flip on her own.
And we continued our walk home and I asked how he did that. He said he has been able to do it for 30 years. I just thought it was cool. I can't even do a cart wheel anymore.
