Lindsey Vonn, hometown girl adds one more medal to her vast collection in her final ski race of her career. She's retiring, ten months earlier than planned and leaves the slopes as the best women skier of all time. She also came close to tying the record of the best men's skier, Ingemar Stenmark. He was on hand today at Lindsey's request to watch her final race before retiring due to shattered knees that are the result of her many crashed. She finished the stellar career wiht a Bronze.
Vonn first hit the slopes as a young child here in Minneapolis at a ski area called Buck Hills. It is a hill, no where near a mountain. Most of the runs there would be considered a "bunny hill" at any other ski area.
She was a slow starter as a kid, getting the nickname of turtle. That soon changed. At age 12 her family moved to Aspen when it became clear that she had the makings of a champion. Those expectations proved to be more than true as her record shows.
She still considers her roots to be here in Minnesota, and we think of her as one of our own. Thanks for all the thrills Lindsey.
