Your mom doesn't know squat about real estate. All of those items are money pit items that do not increase house value.

Temper, temper. Holes in the ground and theatre rooms are not selling points that people are willing to pay more for. To get an estimate on your house worth check the taxing agency and compare similar square footage houses in your neighborhood, both for tax amounts and for similar houses that have recently been sold.

I work in the financial industry for a company that does outsourcing for mortgage companies.

I have more than a passing knowledge of these things.

So, yes, I do know squat. A great deal more than your mother.

An increase of 50% in a house value is not done by a pool and a theatre room. Especially a 100k increase.

Here it's around 30F, with a very strong wind that makes it feel like it's in the teens.

While I like the bitter briskness, hanging out on the patio with you down there sounds very lovely!

I saw an Arby's ad for Reuben sandwiches, so I round up some corned beef, sauerkraut, muenster cheese, dressing, and dark rye bread... homemade grilled Reubens for lunch on a rainy Saturday.  Perfect.
